Small workhorse of a grill
Purchased this Coleman RoadTrip grill for home use as a short term fix while deciding on a replacement for my old Lynx bbq. While it lacks the grilling area of a larger grill, it heats quickly and evenly. It also sears meat very well in the solid center section. Easy to use and clean. The one pound propane canisters last longer than expected. So impressed with this small grill, Iโm in no hurry to replace it.

Love this little grill!
Update after 3 years: I still love this grill. After 3 years of 3-5 days/week use the burners were getting pretty cruddy so I spent some time cleaning, which prompted me to update this review. 1: The burners are not directly exposed to drippings since the grates have a solid section in the middle, which helps a lot to keep them from getting clogged, but after 3 years plenty of the holes were full of goo or otherwise not flowing right, causing a lot of the flame points to not work right. I went at it with a wire brush, and that didn't quite do the trick, so I found a drill bit the right size and used that to open up all the holes on the burners. Tedius, but now all the flame points work correctly. If the burner were replaceable I probably would have just bought a new one, but they don't seem to be available. It is possible to remove, but doing so correctly would require taking a bunch of things apart to get to the two screws that hold it on. I used a less-correct means to get it off, which turns out to not be that necessary but I wanted to clean the gas valve orifices. I should have just removed the valve body from the front of the grill instead, much easier. 2: The little metal plate over the igniter broke off when I was trying to clean the burner, not surprising and this has happened on just about every small gas appliance I've ever owned, the thin metal just can't take the heat of being exposed to direct flame all the time. I'll fabricate a new one when I have time, for now a lighter works fine. 3: The grates still clean up just fine, no sign of deterioration on the under sides, usually where I see them start getting eaten away by flame and goo. The griddle I use the most is much less slippery now than it was when it was new, but I always put a little olive oil on it when I use it and don't have problems with anything sticking to it. I'm not sure I'd try to fry an egg on it but it might work, works great for veggies, fish, etc. The paint is starting to get scrubbed off the drip tray, but I can't think of a good reason to care about that. 4: The exterior surfaces still clean up almost perfectly, the rear part where the exhaust vents are is pretty covered with burnt-on grease, I could probably get it clean if I tried hard enough but I'm not that ambitious. The white paint markings around the valve knobs has long since worn off, don't care... Overall, still one of the best $230 investments I've ever made. === After about 16 months using this grill almost daily I have to say, I love this little grill. I had a $4,000 Viking built-in BBQ at the last house I lived in, and this $230 grill is superior in almost every way (other than the smaller cooking area obviously), while the viking was a big pain in the a$$. The only thing I miss is a rotisserie, which I didn't really use all that often anyway. The lid dome is too short to do beer-can chicken but I can live without that. The cooking area is plenty adequate to cook meals for 2-4 people, including meats and veggies. The heat distribution is very even, it heats up fast and stays hot thanks to the heavy grill plates and solid centers which retain heat very well while the lid is open. A 1lb gas cylinder will do about 4 meals, and it's easy to hook up a 5gal cylinder if you're so inclined with an adapter hose. The swap-top options are great, my standard setup is the grill grate on one side, griddle on the other. Meats cook on the grill, veggies on the griddle, and everything gets good even heat. I've even fried egg rolls and wings in an iron pot on the steal stove insert, it takes a bit longer to heat the oil than a real fryer would, but once the oil is hot it cooks just fine. I don't bother putting water in the water tray, it cleans up just fine. The tray collects drippings and other cruft, I take it out and clean it one a month or so. The grates and the rest of the grill clean up easily with a little degreaser like 409. Love it!

I love this!
This is actually the 2nd one I will have owned! The first one got damaged in a move, i missed it, and found it worth replacing! The size is perfect for cooking plenty of food comparable to larger single surface grills. It has to side tables the pull out from underneath. It's a quick and easy start gas grill. It looks well and evenly. I especially love the fact that it pops down, and is portable to take anywhere! The park, camping, tailgating, etc. You can also get a ton of accessories for the grill, including a griddle surface. It's easy to clean, easy to set up or break down. It uses the smaller propane cannisters, and they can last a long time. But you can also purchase an attachment (hose) to use with larger propane cans. This perfect for apartments to, especially if they have restrictions like small propane grills. Till it was damaged, my last grill lasted for years! I'm looking forward to my new one! I'm a fan, and would highly recommend!!

Good but be careful moving it.
Assembly was easy enough, and it grilled like a charm. My issue is with how the grill is engineered. After putting it together, I attempted to move it using the wheels. The grill clips into the frame with a tension clip that fits between the rails. Well that didnt hold when I stood it folded on the wheels, and it fell open, slamming my new grill on its head and breaking the side table. Id only used it once, and Im not a dummy, if it was made better it wouldn't have happened. The grill is marketed to be portable, but if you need to use that option be really careful when you move it. The actual grill itself was great, I hooked it to a 20lb tank to be certain I didnt run out. Im returning it because its damaged. I would buy it again if I needed one, and just be more careful. It really does try to disconnect every time.

Cooks Great. Easy To Set Up.
I needed to replace my 10 yr old Coleman Road Trip. So glad I chose this one. Easy to assemble. Cooked a steak last night. Grill worked perfectly. Temperature gauge is a great asset. Love this grill.

Want an honest review?
We are full time RVโers and we will stay stationary for months or years at a time. As we were looking for a grill we wanted to make sure that the product was portable, sturdy and well built. Being an RVโer we wanted to make sure that the product stood up to the life of living on the road and the travel. Design: The design overall is a 4/5, I do like how the legs fold under the item and how they secure. I also like the design of the optional plates that can go into the grill. There are two minor items that I donโt like, those are the latch and side tables. The latch seems sort of flimsy and there are times that I thought that I had the lid latched and I did not. The side tables are stiff sliding in and out and they are hard to clean, also they are a little small. I understand that there is a design issue because of the overall size of the grill, so the size of the side tables is limited to start. Even with the side tables negatives, they do have the ability to hold most items that you need as a grill master. One item, that if I did not mention I would be a failure, is the gas tank attachment. What I donโt like is if you want to collapse the grill but not travel with it you still (almost) have to remove the tank. I would prefer to leave it on collapsed if I just wanted to get the grill out of the way. Cleaning the grill is one of the easiest that I have every done. It obviously has a huge advantage being a gas grill, but all the parts come out, including the interior catch tray. They are all coated so quickly cleaning them is not a concern. Cooking is a breeze on this, as with all grills there are some hot spot issues but this grillโs are very minimal. I could get consistent cooking from the grill and I rarely burned anything (unless it was through user error). So there is no concerns regarding the cooking on this grill. Positives: ++Cost ++Construction ++Colors are great (had the red and the blue and they both look great) ++Clean up ++Cooking Negatives: --Some minor design issues (nothing worth not purchasing) Would I recommend: Yes, it is my favorite grill ever and I do recommend it.
