Update: yes it does work without wifi so it can be taken on the go. Only you cannot download new tonies without the wifi connection Do yourself a favor and BYPASS setting up on the app. That does NOT work. We set it up with the laptop and it was connected in about 2 minutes. When you setup on the laptop they will tell you that you have to find the specific tonies "wifi" network. That is probably why it never worked with setting up on the app. They don't tell you that in any of the instructions on the app. Now that it's setup the kiddo loves it. The characters are so cute that they keep taking them to play with! It's so simple to use and setup new characters. Just pop them on or off and you are good to go. Child can easily turn the volume up and down. Will have to go into settings because they want to skip certain stories and songs and we haven't figured that part out. We haven't been out of wifi range with it so I don't know if it will play without wifi or not while we travel. But you can buy headphones (they sell one) to connect to it so your child can just listen to it alone. You can either leave it plugged in on the dock or once its charged take it off so the child can take it around the house. The sides are soft and padded. A great screen free device to have and if you wait for prime or black friday you can get it for an amazing price. Definitely a great gift to give whether it's a birthday holiday or just because.

This set was meant to be a starter set with skye. Chase, Marshall and the playful puppy. But I fortunately the tonie was only delivered with 1 skye. Very disappointing.

Fun learning tool and great for new parents

Bought during a sale and given at Christmas. Set up took a little while, but finally got it to work. It’s a great starter kit for kids! It will tell you when the battery is low and needed to be charged.

We use it every night, I have listed to chase so often I am creating my own fan theories, toddlers love repeat stories. I have never tried it without internet, so I cannot say it works well or not there but since my kid loves it for bed time it is worth it. Only downside is the little figures take up a large amount of space.
