Well Done Addition to the Tomb Raider Lineup - Nice Steelbook
This is a good addition to the Tomb Raider collection. It doesn't play like the older Tomb Raider games. The game is intense in a few areas and contains a bit more blood and gore. It plays well and will be "familiar" to those who have played the newer Tomb Raider games. The World is masterfully created in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Don't expect everything to be the same as what you played in previous Tomb Raider games. I'm being generic on purpose and trying not to spoil the game for you. IGN gave it a 9/10. I'd probably rate it closer to 8/10. I have 1 annoyance as a collector and paying extra for the Croft Steel Book Edition - no manual is included. This may not matter to some/most gamers. Buyer beware on the collectors editions. The Croft SteelBook Edition comes with a nice Steelbook. See my picture, it doesn't look the same as the pre-order promo materials showed... but still looks great. Included in the steelbook case are downloadable codes for the season pass, extra outfits, and the downloadable soundtrack. Amazon also sent pre-order extras that you have to acquire digitally from Prima Games. I bought this version as a collector and enjoy the game. Plus it arrived earlier than the standard launch edition. This may be a game you don't care as much about and want to wait for a discount. If that's you, you might wait to get this over the holidays. For me, it's a good purchase and I'm definitely happy with the Croft Steelbook Edition. This is a fun game to play and is definitely worth a couple play throughs.

Better than Rise.
Phenomenal game. I know I'll be in the minority when I say "rise" wasn't that good. The first one was the first tomb raider game I ever played and I absolutely loved it but the second disappointed me. I can't exactly pinpoint why it didn't stack up but it just didn't. Not saying it was bad at all. It was actually pretty good but I like the first one much better. So I wasn't too hyped about this one but I really wanted to get it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised. It's much better than "rise". The scenery is amazing. Maybe that's why I didn't like "rise" lots of snow and "grey". This was full of lush greens, beautiful water, and stunning tombs. I loved how some old costumes made a return but I really dislike how in the biggest city in the game you can't freely use whatever costumes you want which is kind of annoying having to swap between specific costumes to get certian missions. The immersive mode for the language is awful. Do yourself a favor and turn it off. It's weird for them to speak their native language but completely understand Lara's English. Navigation through the maps still suck imo. It's sometimes tedious. Trying to find items and navigating to get around for missions. I often find myself reactivating survival sense way too many times to find something and sometimes it was wonky like it had a cool down time between activating it too often. Maybe if they had implemented a navigation system like horizon zero Dawn it would've been perfect. The combat was fun. I usually hate steath in games but I liked it on this one. So brutal. Totally awesome to hang people from trees or stab them through the head from hiding behind a wall. Great game. Much better than "rise" but I still loved the first one more but probably because it was more linear. Never did any random tombs in that one but I enjoyed the story the most out of the trilogy.

Best Tomb Raider yet
I can't say enough good things about this game. Lara has a personality in this that just bonds you to her. You can see and feel her emotions. It's awesome. The graphics are really good and the ability to choose your difficulty level for the different aspects of the game play is great. Others have talked about glitches and freeze issues, but I have yet to experience any. I'm not done with the game yet, though, so I may experience them yet. I do know they released a patch right after release, and maybe that's why I haven't seen any. The story is captivating, and this game feels like the old Tomb Raider games. Alot of puzzles, and not just run and gun. I highly recommend it. If you are a fan of the series, even just the original, I think you will enjoy this. Giant thumbs up!!!

SquareEnix is killing it on the Tomb Raider series!
This game is amazing so far. Deadly Obsession (very hard mode) is actually challenging making you focus on every detail of the environment to scrape by. When you die it resets you on that chapter without any of the things you’ve collected so you begin to slowly master levels by trial and error. This makes the chapters very memorable. The environments and tombs are gorgeous. The cutscenes so far look great and push the narrative well. One minor glitch I’ve noticed is when Lara talks on the walkie talkie she holds her hand up to her face but her hand is empty and the walkie talkie is still on her belt. All and all it’s been very enjoyable and I highly recommend it!

Gorgeous game but terrible level design in stealth action
So many of heartbeating intense action scene and gorgeous graphics will excite you. This is worth buying title. Good story "finale" of Tomb Raider reborn series. However, it's not flawless. Especially, I hate peak ability and terrible level design of stealth area. [peak aspect ->] You can mimic "Rambo" and "Predator" action in this game. Let's enjoy it! NO! Hell no!! Please be more serious for the developing game design. Most of peaks in this game is useless. There're many of peak ability in this game, but you'll tend to use "head shot" and poison arrow to let enemys kill each other. Because other peak doesn't work in actual combat as tactics. And moreover, stupid aim camera will annoy you very much.Trust me, that's really terrible. [level design->] Last fighting is almost chaos and stupid, it doesn't make any sense. Basically say, this game focus on stealth combat like the "metal gear". But in most of case, hiding place level layout is very weird, can't find out reasonable walking through path because of it. In addition, sometime you'll lose grabbing edge in the darker area like the cave, because marking white line is not so visible, and often fall to the bottom. That also annoys you. I hope that developers will solve these bad aspect in the next title.

Great gameplay, Catholic themes, dudes
The gameplay on Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a very good play through. You generally feel like you can get your character to "do" whatever you want. Firing weapons, including the bow and arrow, jumping, rappelling, all feel very natural. Even the stealth works very well. You can hide in bushes as well as against muddy-viny walls, a la Rambo. For those who like some stealth vs shootout, this was a great feature. Switching weapons is also very easy as well as crafting. All one button taps or holds. The scenery is also incredible throughout. It's mostly jungle and caverns. The puzzles are also at a good level of challenge for the most part. And you can switch settings between no hint, mild hint, and clear hint if you get stuck. There are Catholic themes throughout the game that are hit or miss from a Catholic perspective, the game is kind of hit or miss. At times, it is respectful. You can discover beautiful Catholic artifacts such as the attached old-fashioned rosary. There are many statues of the Virgin Mary, including Our Lady of Guadalupe, which is indeed very common, especially in the areas in Mexico. Yet, it's almost hard to find crosses that have Christ crucified on them (see attached pic of one of the few that is a nice big gold crucifix), which is odd because there are many plain crosses throughout the games, in shrines, at a Catholic Mission, and at graves. Despite the prevalence of actual crucifixes that are normally in these contexts, especially in Central and South America, there are hardly any in the game. There are some murals featuring Jesus, including a puzzle featuring an antique version of the Stations of the Cross. Jonah worries of sacrilege in some morbid depictions of Catholic scenes featuring skeletons. At one point, you have to smash through a mural of Jesus with the axe which itself seems sketchy. There is also a trophy you earn called "Queen of the Damned". You'll also get a good dose of the Peruvian themes and the cult of Kukulkan. Males in the game are either the bad guy's thugs, servants, or your clumsy, confused sidekick Jonah who is more of a drag than anything. Females in the game are typically in charge of every group in SoTR. The bad guy is a dude. This arrangement resembles Horizon Zero Dawn and seems deliberate due to the consistency of the pattern. However, Lara is a far less obnoxious protagonist than Aloy from HZD. Lara is typically polite and respectful of everyone she talks to whereas Aloy just condescends to everyone and talks about how great she was. Flaws in the game are several. There are certain places in the game where you cannot choose the outfit you want even if you've unlocked it. There are also certain places in the game where you can only use your bow (even though you have guns!) and still other places in the game where you can't use weapons at all! This is very vexing when trying to complete some of the challenges. And there are some places where you have to be wearing a certain outfit to interact with locals. This makes it tiring to have to run to a campsite to change outfits, run back to interact, and then go back and change. There are also some puzzles that violate the game's own logic to solve. For example, one puzzle requires you to rappel across a rope that you connected between 2 rope cranks, but in other times in the game you'll just pass through such a rope if you try to grab it. All in all a fun game with some replayable value. It is the best of the 3 newer TR games.

Wonderful end To Reboot Trilogy.
I've been a big fan of the reboot trilogy. Loved 'Tomb Raider' and 'Rise of the Tomb Raider'. This is the best game yet with improved graphics, game play, and an even more involved, interesting story with more exciting character development. Even though I haven't finished the game yet, as of the date of posting this review, regardless of how the game ends, I love and eagerly look forward to the next Tomb Raider game. Love Lara Croft!!!!
