Will this work for LGB trains?

I have never used LGB trains. However, this fluid did NOT produce smoke in a Bachman HO train.

is this oil or water based?

Looks like it's oil based: "Propylene Glycol and Glycerine"

Has anybody tried this with Märklin trains?

I have not, but smoke oil is a fairly standard product. Ask Marlin what they recommend and go with that.Peace,
