Keychron C3 Pro QMK/VIA Mechanical Keyboard, Hot Swappable, 87 Keys TKL Design, Gasket Mount, RGB Exposure, USB-C Gaming Keyboard with Red Switches for Mac/Windows/Linux

Fantastic keyboard for the price. RGB, Hot-swappable, VIA/QMK compatible, gasket-mounted and foam for smooth typing. If you don't need wireless and want a keyboard that is configurable and modifiable that's probably the top choice for the price. Brown switches are smooth, quite and factory lubed that makes it perfect for shared spaces. QMK firmware works well on it, but original firmware works better for me. It also compatible with VIA configuration software out of the box. Some sources claim keycaps to be PBT, but they does feel like common ABS on mine (although I am not entirely sure so far).

The keyboard is great. The RGB light is very configurable and nice. The keys are double shot and shine through, thus you can easily see them in the dark. Just ensure to update the firmware of the keyboard, following Keychron's directions. Before I had done so, I almost returned the keyboard to Amazon as key presses were missed as well as doubled. This is now all fixed with the latest firmware version 1.0.1 from November 2024.

For being Keychron's budget model keyboard, the C3 Pro is very nice and feel like it's better than the Corsair K63 I used to have in some ways. I needed a new compact keyboard and was looking at all my other 75% options, but looking at those keyboards was very stressful as they all blended in with each other, had weird switch names that weren't immediately obvious what Cherry (clone) switch they would be comparable to, and often were lacking keys I use on the regular like (labelled) volume control, PrintScreen, and context menu. C3 Pro has all of that and is made by a reputable brand. I bought mine with Brown switches as I prefer a tactile bump in my key presses. Typing with the brown switches feels great, and it has a very nice sound to it - actually quieter than the aforementioned K63 despite that keyboard using red switches. Build quality feels good, despite being all plastic - any flex in the keyboard is not a quality control issue, but intentional by design. Realistically, I don't feel the keyboard flex when I'm typing unless I'm actively pushing down on the keyboard itself. The cable being a detachable Type C is also very good, helps with travel and also if the original cable were to break you can just find another Type C to replace it with - or switch it out for a C to C cable if your setup runs entirely on USB Type C. The keyboard being accomodating for both Apple and standard PC's in mind is also very nice, and with the Mac/PC mode being an easy toggle with Fn+Caps, there's not really any adjustment needed if you're using this with an Apple computer. I do wish this keyboard had wireless connectivity options, but for the quality and price it's not too much of a letdown. This keyboard is all black with the Escape, Space bar, and Enter keys coming in red by default. If that's not your thing, then it does include black keycaps for those keys - and a key puller to help you remove the keycaps. There are two major versions of this keyboard - a more basic one with only a red backlight and non-swappable switches, and a higher tier version with an RGB backlight and hot-swappable switches. I got the higher tier version just so I would have more options, say if I wanted to change my Brown switches out for Banana switches - or if I want to change my backlight color to something else that isn't red or rainbow. I leave my keyboard on red though, and I do appreciate the brightness being far less aggressive than the Corsair K63. I cannot speak for VIA compatibility because I am a Firefox fork user, and WebHID is notoriously incompatible with Gecko-based browsers and even Vivaldi. If you are also a Firefox fork user, you may want to have a Chromium browser install handy if you want to use VIA. My only actual annoyance with this keyboard really is with volume controls. Sometimes when I go to adjust the volume (Fn + F10, F11, F12 for mute, down, and up, respectively) the volume will continue shooting all the way up or down - and I haven't quite nailed down the perfect timing for pressing these keys. This could be a firmware thing though, looking at another review.

Probably the best price/features balance you can get for your bucks.
