Solid long haul fiber extender, just wish the DIP switches were labeled better
We needed to get a 10G link between our main building and a pump station about 4 miles out, way past what a regular switch could handle over fiber. I set this up as a straight fiber to fiber repeater using our own SFP+ modules on both ends, mounted it in the electrical cabinet since it's rated for rough conditions and runs off 24V DC anyway.First power up, the status LEDs came on right away and the link came up in under a minute, no negotiation issues between the two ends. I was worried about latency over that distance but it's been unnoticeable for our monitoring traffic and file transfers. The aluminum case feels solid and it's been sitting through some pretty extreme temp swings in that shed without a hiccup.Over the past few months it's done exactly what I needed, kept the link stable and hasn't dropped once, even during a couple thunderstorms which was my real worry given the lightning protection claim. The only real annoyance is the DIP switch setup for switching between 1.25G and 10G rates and the wavelength options. The little manual that came with it isn't super clear and I had to test a few combos before I got the copper port working right for a secondary 1G device.Once it was dialed in though it's been low maintenance. If the documentation was better this would be an easy five star tool, but as it stands it's a solid piece of gear that does the long distance fiber extension job it promises.

Reliable and Well Built
Works great and feels very solid and well made. Setup was straightforward, and the connection has been stable and reliable. The compact industrial design is also a plus. Very happy with the performance so far.

Expensive!
14JAN2025: Had to take 2 stars off because I did not read the details enough.. Device is still working fine. Reason for removing 2 stars is the fact that the ethernet port only supports 1Gbps. Verizon upgraded me to the new 2G service but I could only pull 1G. DUH. Waste of $$ and time. Ordered a true 10G converter to replace this 1G media converter that just so happens to support 10G SFPs, for some unknown reason.Very expensive piece of kit. But...if you have a need for an industrial media converter that operates at 10G, then this is a great value! I used this to replace a standard media converter that I was using to extend my FiOS connection from the garage to my basement. I am running it at 10G even though my FiOS is only 1G, since I have the SFPs and I am just waiting for Verizon to start offering the 2G service. Nice plus, it does support 2 power sources!Of note: this is a DC powered device, 12-48v. You will fry it if you try to connect it to standard 120v household power without a down converter.
