Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthening Cream, Unscented 1oz

I'll start by telling you, I was an acrylic junkie starting back in 1990 and wore acrylic nails consistently until last fall. About 5 years ago I switched to the powder and then to gel nails shortly after that. After all those years of fake nails, without a break, plus I am a picker of nails when they feel like they're lifting. If all 10 nails lasted 2 full weeks I was lucky. I usually couldn't help myself and picked them off completely before going back to the salon. It was so embarrassing. My nail beds were in shambles, they were thinner than paper. After I stopped the fake nails, tasks like folding clothes were a pain, they snagged my clothing, were sensitive under warm water, and just a mess. I bit my nails to the quicks. I was wearing gloves to try and stop, and to hide my hideous fingers. I can't wear polish, even nail strengthener polish would be picked off within 3 days. I needed something I couldnt pick off, that would heal my super damaged nails, and I almost gave up. I was thinking about going back to the salon, and dreaded it, since I'm low on cash. Then I saw this product, read some reviews, and bought a jar. What a lifesaver this product has been for me. I didn't notice anything the 1st week, but I liked the gentle moisturizing feeling and the light scent. Man! In 3 weeks I started noticing my nail beds were healing. The rough scaley look was smoothing over. The peeling stopped. The sensitivity was gone. Now a tiny bit of white at the tips are growing out and I can feel them getting stronger. I am so thrilled! I have hope now that I can grow my nails out. No snagging anymore and no hiding my hands. Best yet, when I want to pick or bite my nails, I reach for my jar and start rubbing my nails with this awesome balm. I've only been using it 4 weeks, and wish I had before pics. I'll never go without it, it saved me a ton of money too, no salon visits ever again!!

My nails have always been a problem - and yes, I too did the complete array - silk, powder, gel... it was time to give that habit up, and it has taken quite some time for the nail-beds to recover. I will mention that this is only one piece to getting my nails sorted, as I started with nutrition - adding vitamins, protein and calcium to my diet, as my dermatologist advised - it was a major part of getting my nails right, and skipping that can also wreak havoc with my nails weeks - even months - after a lapse. I finally have a routine that gives me presentable nails, without too onerous a routine. This nail conditioner is a key part of that routine. I rub lotion into my hands and this on my fingertips last thing at night, then pull on a pair of inexpensive cotton gloves for sleeping (from Amazon😉). I do a manicure once a week. I generously coat rub my cuticles and nail-bed, spend some time massaging it in, and let let it soak in for 5-20 minutes as part of the manicure, and rub it into my cuticles & nails after using strong cleaning products. I am a picker/nail biter, and just like alcoholics, it is a daily struggle... are there meetings I should attend? When my fingers have had a bad day, rubbing this into my fingertips soothes as well as smooths, and they are less ragged, and less red and sensitive almost immediately. Over time, my cuticles have become healthier, smoother, and less "snaggy", and my nails flake and break less when I stick to this routine - less picking and biting! It is less expensive than many more costly products that I have tried with less success - and definitely less expensive than the fake nail routine, and less time consuming. The scent is mild, and rinses off well. We have a very dry climate, and hands turn into sandpaper without constant attention, so I have started rubbing it into my hands as well as that part of the manicure, it makes them incredibly soft. As to hardening the nails, It does not fix that overnight - I used it for a month before I saw results I could be sure were from this treatment. Apparently it needs to be worked into the growing portion, and doesn't seem to have as strengthening an effect on the "already grown" cuticles and growth past the nail-bed, so it doesn't show up until the new nail and cuticle grows out. However, now that I have been using it, I can really tell the difference when I "skip" it... a couple of weeks later with snags, splits, and softer nails. I have tried replacing this step with regular lotion, and with other nail treatments, but I keep coming back to this, the reasonable price lets me afford to slather it on generously, it soothes, smooths and over time strengthens so, I love it.

I gotta say I was skeptical about the effectiveness of this cream but after reading the reviews I decided to give it a go. I haven’t thin nails that tend to bend and peel. I wanted to wait to write the review till I ad been using it for a bit. I gotta say after a week I could tell my nails were stronger. It’s been 2 weeks now and I no longer feel worried that my nails will break without my normal nail strengthening polish. My nails are bare for the first time in I don’t know how long. No peeling. No way! Here’s the downside. The smell. I got the coconut thinking it would probably not smell too bad. But I don’t like it. You require so little lotion it’s going to take forever to go through the jar. It smells like old lady makeup/lipstick. I’m 51 saying this so you know it’s not good. That being said I will try the other scent next time. The product really does work and I’m so happy I found it.

I've used this cream for years and reorder it every time I run out. This is one of the most effective products in my nail care routine! It's rich without feeling greasy, absorbs well, and keeps my cuticles and nails moisturized. I've noticed a real difference in the health of my nails when I use it consistently. I massage a small amount into my nails and cuticles before bed each night, and it helps keep my hands, fingers, cuticles, and nails hydrated and looking and feeling healthier. It's great for recovery for my nails after removing acrylic and gel, and I notice my nails grow really fast when I use it consistently. A little goes a long way, the coconut scent is pleasant without being overpowering, and one jar lasts a surprisingly long time. If you're trying to grow stronger, healthier nails, I'd definitely recommend giving this a try. This would also make a great gift!

I do believe this cream has helped my cuticles and nails. I keep it beside my chair and rub some in while watching tv in the evenings. Feels good and smells good. My nails have improved and I hope will continue to do so! I have used it for about a month or so.

I cracked my thumb nail about half way down, and I thought for sure it would totally break and the crack would continue across, basically destroying my nail and making me need to wear a bandaid for weeks to protect the finger (which has happened to me before, I have very weak nails). Hard as Hoof is a TOTAL game changer. I wish I'd taken a "before" photo so I could really show how well it works, but if you look at the photo attached to my review and see where the break is, it is trending downwards. All of my friends said it was a lost cause and I should cut it to avoid the downward break ripping further and causing more issues. I really didn't want to do that again (I've had nails that were basically completely ripped off because they caught on something before, and it's literally a huge pain), so I tried Hard as Hoof on a lark since I had nothing to lose. It's been about two weeks using it, and not only has my nail not ripped, but it really does seem to have become more sturdy. Before, I could apply pressure on the back of the nail and I could visually see the nail separate at the crack site. I don't know how they did it, but that's been fixed after using this. My entire nail looks healthier too, but I'm most impressed by whatever happened to fix the break. I've never been able to to weeks without a broken nail getting totally destroyed before, even with the (many) other products I've tried. I'm incredibly impressed and will definitely be buying this again!

I took off my fake nails at the end of May 2026. I ordered this because my nails were "painfully" thin and I didn't want to go back to acrylic again. It took about one month of daily use for my nails to stop breaking, I am now painting my nails and there is no indication of how damaged they were. My nails have grown out completely, surprisingly, within only 3 months. This was so helpful, and you just use a small bit, so I have 1/2 of the jar still left. I use it sporadically now because I love the smell and it feels really good on your hands. I would definitely recommend for anyone going through the process of healing your nails after years of Acrylic abuse.

This product is incredible! I’ve never had trouble getting my nails to grow, but they’ve always been so brittle that they would eventually break off. Since using Hard as Hoof, that has completely changed. My nails have never felt this strong, and I’m finally able to keep the length without constantly dealing with breaks. It’s also been wonderful as a cuticle cream. My cuticles look noticeably less dry and just healthier overall. I originally bought it for my nails, but I love that it has improved the appearance of my cuticles too. This has definitely become a staple in my nail care routine!

I've spent a fair amount on nail strengthers in the past many big brand names and had no improvements in the condition of my nails they still ripped the minute they grew past the end of the nail bed often tearing further up leaving my nail beds red and painful. But not anymore. This product really does do what it says. I started using it about a week ago it says apply 3 times a day but I just keep it with me and apply it regularly through out the day. Its a very greasy feeling cream and you need the tiniest amount on your finger. I massage it onto every nail and around the free edge of the nail and leave it to sink in. My nails look so healthy and have for the first time in over ten years grown past the end of the hyponychium and there is not ripping or bending my nails really are 'hard as a hoof' I really like the coconut fragrance too. As the product is quite greasy a little goes a really long way so while the pot is tiny it actually will last you a good while. This will now be a staple in my daily self care routine and recommend you give it a try if you like me have exhausted all other options.

I was expecting it to smell like cherry blossom not medicine. I didn’t do anything to my nails. Hard as hoof my foot. You’d be better off buy real horse hoof to strengthen your nails instead of this Kmart product. Save your money.

I have very thin brittle nails that break off very easily, since using this product I’ve seen a massive difference in my nails that I never thought id ever see. They’re much stronger, to the point that I can grow my nails out nice and evenly. Will continue to purchase
