Used this brand a few times doesn’t disappoint, a great edition to my morning coffees

Product has really made a difference. I bought this as a gift for a friend that has a lot of fatigue issues when training but they have been taking the supplement daily and have noticed a big difference in energy levels throughout the day. They are no longer getting fatigued when training and they also have enough energy to carry out the rest of their daily activities. Would definitely recommend!

The Alpha01 Organic Cordyceps Sinensis Powder arrives in a printed non-recyclable (from home) zip loc bag. Printed on the bag is the expiry date (06/07/2027), nutritional information(100% mushroom - no bulking agents or fillers), and dosage advice (½ teaspoon a day) but no GMP logo on the packet but the advert claims GMP - GMP is important for product quality. The packet I was sent is 100 G power which is 50 servings. The logo on the package states non EU agriculture. As stated in the advert cordyceps naturally grow and fruit on insect lava - but not the the cordyceps in this package. The price of traditionally grown cordyceps on insect lava is in the tens of thousands dollar range per Kg. Cordyceps can be grown on rice or liquid media at a lower price. When grown the product can be split into fruiting bodies and mycelium. The fruiting bodies have the high levels of beta-glucans the mycelium have mainly alpha-glucans and starch. Unfortunately the UK regulations allow both to be called mushroom in supplements. The fruiting bodies are expensive - the mycelium less so. What research suggests is that you benefit most from the beta-glucan. This package claims 140 mg of polysaccharides but states nothing about how much of these polysaccharides are beta-glucans. Cordyceps is a genus of at least 350 fungi only one of these Cordyceps CS-4. has been recorded officially as an herbal drug in Chinese pharmacopoeia but this is not claimed on this package in this preparation. Cordyceps fruiting bodies is traditionally used to combat fatigue and enhance physical performance and research suggests the fruiting bodies may improve oxygen utilization and cellular energy by enhancing ATP production. The fruiting bodies of the mushroom also contains compounds that may stimulate immune function, support lung health and and possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which could benefit overall health and well-being. The current price for 100g is £6.00 (£60.00/kg). So this is not consistent with the price of the traditional grown cordyceps on insect larvae. Alpha01 state in the ingredients that the product is cordyceps sinensis - this is different from the affordable Cordyceps CS-4 available from China. So I don’t understand the price unless it is mainly the mycelium and that the polysaccharides are just either starch from the rice with some alpha glucans - and not what you need. On the package there is no GMP. There is no detail of the beta-glucan content. If alpha01 send me this certified information I will update the review but so far I am unconvinced that enough detail has been provided for me to recommend this product.

Cordyceps Sinensis powder from Alpha01 is pure, with no added fillers or anything. It's sourced from the Himalayan regions, which is where it's naturally found. I've been adding it to my smoothies, but it can be added to yog’s too. It doesn't really have a strong taste, so it blends in well. People swear by its benefits, like boosting energy and improving athletic performance but I can't say I've noticed any dramatic changes in those departments. Moreover, it’s not my reason for consuming it, so let me put it this way instead: upregulating immune responses is something that I’m interested in … The packaging is decent, but I just wish it was biodegradable. Overall though, it's a decent product, and if you're interested in trying something new to support your health, it might just be worth checking out.
