Update!!! Received new reel!!! Gears stripped after a week of use.
UPDATE!!! First reel broke after 2 weeks of use. SOUGAYILANG made it right and sent me a brand new replacement reel. This one seems to be holding up and is very durable. Previous review below. THANK YOU FOR THE REPLACEMENT! I gave 2 stars because I have had ZERO issues with the rod. But the reel on the other hand, was used for a week straight, and the gears inside have already broke the teeth. Now this $80 buy is only good for the pole. So I would save your money and go grab a zebco, because it will last way longer than this reel.

maybe not for beginners like I am
Came rod in sectional bag. Nice sleek metallic blue finish. Cork handle has plastic protection to be removed. It's a decent height for my kids. Couple feet shorter than my 7 foot pole that I use since I'm 6'4. Reel inserted and firmly locked into place. ------------- Spooled ok. This is my 2nd time adding line to a reel. It was still a learning experience. This one has holes in the reel to tie off, so that was nice. However, it didn't have an o/off cap to take the reel out to tie the line on. Used an arbor knot and it did fine. Spooled new monofilament line into it. Nice back and forth motion and kept tension. Seemed ok. ---- Cast went weird the first couple of times. I had just fiddled setting up my first rod and reel, another Sougayilang. I did all the same things, followed the same online video tutorials... set up the drag and such just the same. This one bird's nested twice. I unspooled the nest and corrected everything and found that the drag and such settings were much different that I expected. Its surely user error, I finally got it set up and can cast full force with no issues. Ready for our weekend trip, and I now trust this pole and reel to start slowly and get used to it and believe it'll perform after I tweak the settings some more (and believe this will be slightly touchy with different lures).

Decent, but durability with a catch on the line is still untested
Fairly new to fishing and was tired of borrowing poles so I decided to invest in one. After a few unsuccessful outings I’m still not sure how to feel about this. Setting up the reel was relatively easy, I did have to watch a YouTube video about how to tie off a Fishermans knot. It casts fine and you’ll definitely need to tweak your gears to reel in the line. As stated, I have yet to catch a fish, therefore I cannot speak to the durability of the rod itself. Why I mention this is my rod doesn’t seem to cinch down on itself all the way. Which a few other reviewers had stated about their rods. The top section bottoms out with about 1-1/2” gap showing from the bottom. It’s got me a bit concerned about the pole breaking of I ever do hook something big. With all things considered I wouldn’t see myself buying this again or gifting it to anyone else.
