500W US to Japan Voltage Converter 120V to 100V Step Down Transformer

I needed to look for a step-down converter for my Technics tuner. It needs 100v. This one was the cheapest out there, and quite small, which works well for my application. It comes with 1 100V plug, and a 120V plug. It’s hefty, which I like. I made sure the input voltage was correct (on the back side), and plugged it in. I turned it on, and plugged in the tuner. It lit up, and all is well. I am very happy with this product.

Got this in order to play my Japanese sega saturn, works well so far!!! A little bigger than I thought I'd be but hey can't complain!

This seems like a very robust unit and it was just what I needed to run my Japanese Sony deck that runs on 100 volts.

For my vintage 70s Yamaha 100w 210w amp to run in the US this did the trick. Heavy duty converter

Unit provided 146V instead of 100V. I decided to test this unit using a digital multimeter prior to plugging in my newly imported vintage Japanese turntable. Thank goodness I did because the output from the 100 V Outlet was 146 V. I used a brand new Klein MM720 and tested both on the AC voltage setting and on the low impedance voltage setting to get the same result. The input voltage on the back was properly set at 120 V. I then switched the input voltage to 100 to see what results I would get. I was now was getting 120 V out of the 100 V outlet and 100 V out of the pass through Outlet. Clearly, some wiring has not been correctly done in the unit. I have returned it. The unit seemed very solid and well-made. However, make sure that you check the voltage output prior to use, because their quality control did not find this most basic flaw. If I had run my 100 V turntable at 146 V, I am not sure how long it would’ve survived and would likely have been toast!

I bought a Yamaha DX7s synth that was made in Japan. It requires just 100 volts to work properly. I hooked up my volt meter and as you can see from the photo it's outputting just a little over 100 volts, which is perfectly fine. The DX7s powers right up and works great.

Arrived as expected. I bought a CD player at Yodobashi on a recent trip to Japan (saving hundreds), but they were sold out of 120v to 100v step down transformers. Electronics like the CD player I bought do have a tolerance for voltage variations, but 120v is about 10-15% outside of long term safe operation. Saw this transformer on Amazon, which would cost me about $12CAD more than the Yodobashi unit. Amazon packaging was typical - tiny box with delicate item bouncing around in a giant box, but the manufacturer packaging was well padded. Surprised at the sturdy build quality. My outlet reads 120.9v and this unit reads 100.5v, which is perfect for my needs. I’m currently only running 14w through it, so I expect a long life. Will update if that isn’t the case.
