does this have sharp edges that prevent someone from comfortably sleeping with it?

yes, and I don't feel it gets all that cold either. I probably would not purchase this again. When cold, it doesn't really shape to your face. And it doesn't stay cold very long, maybe 10 minutes if that. Not much of a nap, and not comfortable for napping. Sorry!

Can i use it over a hot, wet cloth?

I wouldn't do that if I were you. The back of the mask is terry cloth and it will only get wet.

Is the glycerin derived from animals?

No. No animals are involved in the making of this product.

Which kind of therapy is better for puffy eyes, heat or cold?

I have never tried heat for puffy eyes. Cold seems to work for me.
