The Nile Hilton Incident

This is an excellent film, well acted and highly realistic in its portrayal of the life of ordinary people and social conditions that gave rise to mass protests across much of North Africa and the Middle East known as the Arab Spring. The main character is an Egyptian police detective who tries to remain fair and human in an a web of corruption and abuse while trying to solve the murder cases involving cabaret singers and a pimp where the perpetrators were high government officials who hired killers to eliminate witnesses and paid bribes for protection by ranking security officials. All of this took place during the Tahrir Square protests and the eventual ousting of Egypt's long standing president, Hosni Mubarak. The Amazon Prime streaming version of this film has clear and adjustable subtitles that are not difficult to read. One needs to pay close attention to the dialogue and perhaps see the film a second time to identify the complex unfolding of murder, silencing of witnesses and cover up that make up the plot of this film. This is very well acted and maintains the viewers' attention without resorting to sensationalism and hype. The film contains vivid, sometimes spectacular scenes of Cairo and its surroundings.

I enjoyed this well constructed, intricate noir thriller set in Egypt and won't soon forget the plot or setting. A memorable, well-done movie.

I originally decided to watch this film because Farras Farras has the lead role. The entire film was magnificent and not overdone. The cast as a whole was very talented, and I found the story to be very compelling. It has interested me enough to entice me to visit that period in history for Egypt.

I thought it was a good reflection of the situation in the security sector that spurred the Arab Spring in Egypt. It was kind of a whodunnit/thriller but didn't score high in this respect. Slow at points. Also, I haven't seen a movie in years where just about everyone chain-smoked. It took me back to 50's television in the U.S..

A very good film for both the storyline and the inside look at police corruption. Well worth seeing. You might need to enable subtitles if they do not come up automatically.

Classic film noir. I've read a lot of noir novels and watched a lot of noir films and this movie stands up to the best of them. Cairo in 2011 was a great location for this film and a refreshing change from standard noir backdrops. Highly suggested to anyone looking for a crime film.Also, my wife didn't fall asleep. That says something.

That is it. Remember Patrick Zaki? Giulio Reggeni? The working of the Egypt state shown as a "triller" .Vgood made, vgood acting,, gripping, educational.
