50 PCS Rock Climbing Holds for Rock Climbing Wall Made in USA

The good: Feel: Texture of the holds is great. I'm already a huge fan and I enjoy the feel of them more so than the other name brand holds on my wall. They don't get really cold on my outdoor wall like my real rock holds but they don't have the plastic(y) feel of run of the mill gym holds. It's the best of both worlds between real rock holds and plastic. The material used for these holds must be some kind of mix of polyester resin and perhaps Portland cement but I'm no expert; that's just my guess. Everyone that has tried them out very much enjoys the holds and their texture. Shapes: The shapes are fairly well thought out and allow for a fair degree of variation by rotation. There were a couple included that are great for pinching, a couple really nice buckets and some that offer training for those odd, hard to crimp/stack/edge holds, the latter of which i found to be a great asset to my wall. Strength: After a week of hard use, none have broken. In fact, a couple held up to some considerable 'adjustments' done with a hammer drill (see below). They appear to be very solid and quite strong. Color: Seriously, who cares? They could be striped pink and purple with Hello Kitty on them and it wouldn't matter. But, actually, the color is really nice. They look like real rock. The bad: Bolt Holes: First and worst was that the bolt holes on a couple of holds were deformed to the point where the head of the bolt wouldn't seat down into the countersunk [top] of the hole. This was a problem on three holds, to be exact. That being said, all three were easily fixed by using an SDS bit in a 18v drill on the hammer setting. About 3 seconds each drilling perpendicular to the bolt hole where the clearance was needed fixed the problem. The same mod could probably be done with a regular drill and masonry bit very easily. To be clear, this 'defect' (for lack of a better term) would NOT keep me from purchasing more of these holds. Easy fix for something that will probably last a lifetime. Odor: The other 'bad' is very nit-picky but I'm including it for the sake of doing a complete review. As mentioned in another review, the holds have a strong odor at first. If you're using them outdoors like me, it's not a problem. If you plan to use them in an enclosed area or room, you may want to leave them in a sun for a couple days to air out. After a few days of being on the wall, mine have no smell at all. Packaging: The other nit-pick is the packaging (or lack thereof). The holds were not packaged such that they would not tumble around in the box. In all honestly, I don't think this is a huge issue because I believe these things could withstand a lot of abuse (being dropped, kicked around, etc) during shipping. Again, not a big deal... after all, they're climbing holds, not Precious Moments figurines. Conclusion: Overall, great holds. I plan to buy more. You can't beat the value and the holds are great. I'm giving them the full five stars because even though i had to fix a few, the value, feel and functionality beat out the ding I would give them for the deformed bolt hole. I have already recommended them to my two other regular partners who are both building their walls now. They will likely be buying several.

We were once dirt bags, before we had kids, and dream of being semi-dirt baggish again. During Quarantine, we decided to build our kids a two sided indoor rock wall, and these holds are legitimate solid. They are diverse enough-you can place similar holds upside down to switch it up a bit. They are also attractive looking against wood and feel more like real rock. They are great for kids and adults alike-and the quality is spot on. We have no regrets whatsoever. I would recommend soaking the holds upon purchase as the chemical smell is rough, but some dish soap and water took care of it. We dried them out in the sun and now my kids spend the hours that they would have spent bouncing off the walls-climbing them! Since climbing gyms are closed at present-this is a great way to fill the void. If you are wondering if these guys are worth it-that's a definitive yes. . P.S. Word to the wise: Make sure you put in the holding screws correctly. You want the rock holds flush with the wood and want the flat, circular washer on the backside of your wood (not on the front where the holds will go)-there are no instructions included, so do your research and save yourself some time before construction. There are some amazing youtube videos on how to build a decent wall in a relatively short amount of time. Cheers!

These holds are awesome, seriously. I've seen some silly complaints on here about them... "They were chalky when they showed up"... Yes, they have a bit of residue on them that's kinda dusty/chalky, but it quickly wears off and it doesn't impede the functionality of the holds themselves. "They smelled when they showed up". Yes they do, it's part of the manufacturing process. The smell wears off within a day or two, again, does not impede functionality of the holds. "The company is run in someone's basement". It might be... But I'll tell you what, you keep buying cheep garbage from China and the only way American businesses will survive is by being run out of a basement. Bottom line, these holds are great. I bought them with the intent saturate part of a wall for my small children (3 years and 1.5 years), and they work absolutely fantastic for that purpose. Additionally I use them on the rest of the wall (much more spaced out) for my 8 year old. The holds are excellent quality, easy to grip for an adult or a child, and there is a good variety of shapes. I would buy these again, I would recommend that you buy them, I would tell my friends to buy them. Additionally, they come with all the hardware you need, T-nuts and bolts. I think there was a complaint about the bolts rusting or having surface rust. Seriously, get over yourself... Bolts rust in the outdoors, no matter the quality, and surface rust doesn't take away from their strength or functionality. I paid for the express shipping option and they showed up within four days. They were packaged in a USPS priority box with no real padding or anything. The ONLY reason I mention this is because it seems like people have a "thing" for packaging these days... Like, if the package isn't beautiful, the product is garbage. FALSE. If the holds can't hold up (pun intended) to being tossed around a little bit and being smooshed together in a package across country, well then you probably don't want to put them on your wall and trust that they're gonna hold yours (or your kids) body weight without breaking. Just sayin.

I haven't finished setting the route for me, but I've used one set of these for two different walls for my boys, aged 2 and 5. The holds are a good size, contain a mixture of holds with good finger grips (set aside for my sons), and holds with no grip at all that are quite small. The boys are quite successful with the holds--I don't see any need for the larger set for children. In fact, some of the smaller holds are well-suited for smaller hands. They've been used for a few weeks now. I'll have to update a little later, when I've had an opportunity to get some climbing time in. I do wish that the hardware wore better (everything is outside), but I didn't exactly pay top dollar for expensive holds and weather-ready hardware. I bought the first set of fifty a few years ago and never got around to putting up the walls. Now that I have the walls, I bought another set. I like the price, I like the feel, and I like that they are more like climbing stone. My kids call them "rocks." I expect to update these to 5 stars, unless something bizarre happens.

First of all, there was nothing unique or noteworthy about the 1st order I placed with this company. I ordered 10 Large Bolt on Climbing Holds that came with hardware. Everything showed up (way ahead of schedule which is awesome!) as advertised. Good to go. However, I discovered that I needed more holds than I had originally planned for so I re-ordered the same product with the same product description that said it included hardware. This time, the holds arrived, (early again! awesome) but this time, no hardware. So after a quick glance through the product details/description, it lists a number to call for customer service or an email to correspond with as well. It was 7:00pm Pacific Time at the time of my call. I completely expected to just leave a message on the company's (Rocky Mountain Climbing Gear) customer service voicemail and maybe get a call back in the next day or so to address the issue. HOWEVER, much to my surprise, someone answered the phone! Not just anybody but I believe it was the owner of the company. After composing myself from momentary shock, I quickly explained the issue with the shipment. He apologized for the missing hardware and personally shipped it the very next day himself. I was blown away. Who has that kind of incredible customer service these days? It is RARE to say the least. Needless to say I was very impressed and will be a customer of theirs for the duration of my climbing days. In addition to the outstanding service, the product I received looks and feels incredible. It FEELS like real granite stone, LOOKS like real granite stone and is a very much anticipated feature in my new home climbing wall. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for quality all around. These rocks are awesome! One: they are heavy! They feel like real rocks, and are super solid! Two: the quality is superb! They are all different and the fit of the bolts and T-nuts is perfect! Three: they are serious! We built an indoor gym/climbing space for our sons and didn’t want the rocks to look like fruity pebbles - these definitely do not, in fact they look more like cocoa pebbles and, when they first arrived even kind of smelled like chocolate! (Not exaggerating here, but the smell has faded) Lots of variety in the shapes, with plenty shaped well for hand holds or feet holds. You will not be disappointed by this product! Note: no instructions arrived with rocks/bolts, but I was able to YouTube assembly. You might want earplugs as there is a lot of hammering!

Came in a not-so-nice usps box with holds directly in it, no extra wrapping or even a bag, hardware separately in another bag. They smell a bit after unboxing but i washed them and the smell went away in a day or two. There is not much variations in shape though, you can turn them butcthat's it. i think it has an OK quality overall, but not as good as Metolius. Out of 50: - installed 47 without problem (but 1 broke later) - 2 with hole not perpendicular to the back - 1 broken into 2 halves when i overtightened. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!! one of my previously successfully installed hold broke in halves when i pulled on it while climbing, nothing dangerous happened as it's low, but you probably don't want to experience that again. i think it's not bad for the money though. Update 8/22/20: again, don't overtighten, i damaged three more discovering cracks on them, and removed them. see last pic.

REAL ROCKS... !? Nope, but man, they're close. We combined these 50 holds with 48 of the plastic beginner holds to create a 9'x16' climbing wall for all 3 kids, ages 5-11. These look and feel like real rocks. Be sure to wash in soap & water to clean the dust and "factory-funk" off, then you're good to go. Hardware is included, as well as the wrench. The bolts are plenty long. I was surprised that they didn't come with washers, but they tightened well and the holds do not spin, even under my 210 lbs. Not only are the holds made in at least 8 different shapes, they can be rotated at any time to adjust the difficulty. We drilled more than twice as many holes and installed T-nuts in each so we could adjust the wall for different skill levels. Some bolts wouldn't go into the holds because some of the rock material hardened in the way, but the cleaned out easily with a 3/8" drill bit. NOTE: These come with black 3/8-16 bolts and T-nuts. Extra T-nuts were available here on Amazon, about $14 for 100 pcs.

Sturdy and good product. Smaller than expected but still works well! Hated the company who was used for shipping but that’s not reflective of the product

We installed a rock climbing wall in my 6 yr olds room and this kit worked perfectly! There was no foul smell to the product as some reviews described, they have a much larger variety of shapes/forms than I anticipated, are very solid and can grip well on them. Very satisfied!!

Just installed them. Decent price. They definitely stink but have directions to mitigate it. Strapping wall with at least 3/4 inch as the holds have different depths. I cut them to avoid damage which I am sure voids any warranty. I am ordering 10 more now

I haven't installed them yet. I will update this review once I do. So far they are perfect. The shapes vary. Most are jugs but different types of jugs. Then there are a few pinches and the rest are irregular, foot hold type ones. They look like real rocks and feel like stone. There is not grip on them like at a climbing gym. They are smooth for the most part. Looking forward to climbing on them.
