My three-year-old son LOVES trains and asked for some for Christmas this past year. We were also looking to purchase a train table for him so we ended up buying the KidKraft Waterfall Mountain Train Set and Table and these trains were a suggested additional purchase and a good price so we ordered them. When my son opened this gift, he was ecstatic! Of course he wanted us to put together the train table right away so he could play with his trains. So far, these trains have been some of his favorite toys and he plays with them daily! The set includes 12 pieces of various types of train parts like an oil tanker, engine, caboose, and passenger coaches, just to name a few. The product description lists all of the pieces included with this set. All of the pieces are painted nicely and include good-quality, fairly realistic graphics so they resemble real trains as much as a toy can. The size of the cars ranges slightly but in general, most are right around three inches long. All of the trains have durable wheels that have held up to my son's constant playing and they work really well on the tracks that came with our train table. Some of the cars have tops that come off but you can slide them back on the wooden pieces that will hold them in place until they are pulled off again. Also, none of the trains make noises or light up so you won't need batteries with this set. The trains have magnets on the fronts and backs so you can make trains as short or long as you want. The only thing I've noticed with the magnets is they don't always work with some of the other brands of trains. We have an inexpensive train from a local store that works perfectly with this set but the Thomas trains we have seem to have the magnets reversed so the Thomas trains only work with this set if they are backwards. Perhaps these Orbrium trains aren't compatible with the Thomas trains but it doesn't seem to bother my son at all. This set comes packaged in a sturdy, wooden box with shelves so you can easily store them at the end of the day. For anyone who is curious, this set is made in China. Overall, I think this set is a great addition to our train table and you could easily use these trains by themselves if you just want to purchase some trains. I feel this set is a good-quality, nicely painted, and very durable set of wooden trains that would be perfect for anyone who loves trains. It's also very affordable and offers plenty of variety in the types of cars and colors included. My son loves them and plays with them daily so it was worth it for us to buy this set and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a set of trains!

These trains were great, my grandson loves them. They are built well, with strong magnets, and work well on his train track. We love all the different train cars.

Turned out to be good value Christmas gift

This set was a Christmas gift for my 3-year-old son last year, and he has played with them at least 4 days a week every week since then. That's a biggie for me because, as most parents know, it's easy to purchase a gift you think your child will love and they do love it -- for about 2 weeks, and then it's largely forgotten. These trains are flawlessly painted, sturdy and compatible with most, if not all, of the name brand wooden trains and track sets and these trains are MUCH more affordable than the name brand toys. My son has a few of the wooden Thomas engines, and these integrate with those just fine. The magnets are pretty strong as well, though not so strong that a young toddler can't easily pull them apart. My son often makes trains 8 or 9 cars long and can pull them around the track without them breaking apart most of the time. A couple of the trains have pieces that lift off and fit back onto pegs on the train (like the oil tanker train), so there's an added bonus of fine motor practice there. My son is autistic and sometimes throws toys when he has meltdowns. These trains have been thrown on the hard kitchen floor a few times and are no worse for the wear. I expect they'll last a very, very long time. The wooden box they come in shown in the picture makes for a nice gift presentation, but it isn't really practical for storing the trains because the "shelves" are not very deep. We ended up spray painting it and hanging it up in my son's room to display some of his tiny figures, like Shopkins.
