[OLD VERSION] TurboTax Deluxe 2024 Tax Software, Federal & State Tax Return [PC/MAC Download]

I've tried other tax preparation software and I find Turbo Tax to be the easiest to use and the most effective. A suggestion: After ordering it, restart your computer. I had trouble getting the downloaded software to open. TurboTax asks questions most people wouldn't think of. They cover everything. This means it takes a bit longer, but it's worth it, especially if you want a fair and accurate deduction. And the previous year's info will transfer with a click, saving lots of time. It seems every year gets easier. What used to take me days now takes an afternoon. Don't pay an accountant; this is all you need.

2024 UPDATED SAME AS 2023 REVIEW: --- I've been using TurboTax software for some 30 years now. It's become my goto software for doing my annual taxes. I'm sure competitor software like "H&R Block" or "Taxcut" works just as well too, but since I started doing my own taxes back in mid 1990's, I've always used Intuit TurboTax, and I have no intentions of switching anytime soon. Intuit's TurboTax software has an easy to follow guide with step-by-step instructions, and its very easy to transfer your old data from last year's tax returns when starting a new return for the current year making it that much easier. The intuitive user interface makes it easy to switch back and forth between guide & expert mode as needed, and online tax help via chat is just a click or phone call away. Uses very secure DES 256-bit encryption when transmitting your finalized tax forms to the Federal Taxing Authority. Federal Filing for the deluxe version is always free, but you still have to pay a small fee for filing your State returns. That's likely true for most retail online tax filing software, and/or maybe dependent on the state you live in. Recommended and will purchase again.

I have used Turbo Tax software for quite a few years to do our taxes. We are at a point that we don't have much in deductions and have used the standard deduction for the last few years. Even so, I feel more comfortable with the option to use deductions if we can save more than using the standard deduction. Since tax laws are constantly changing, I still run through all of the possible deductions which are, for the most part, described well in this software. I suppose I could use the online version to save the cost of this software, but I don't feel comfortable putting all of our financial information online. One problem I have had in the last couple years, including this year, is that some entries have shown errors at the end and how to fix them was not clearly described. I got through them this year, but, in the past, have had to do some research on the internet to find out how to correct entries. One thing I very much dislike about Turbo Tax is that the software automatically adds an Interest/Penalty charge to the amount of tax owed without making the user aware that this is being done. It also doesn't offer any suggestions as to how to avoid this charge. This penalty charge is calculated and automatically added to taxes owed when you owe over $1000 because you did not have enough Federal Income Tax taken out of your income during the year. The only place you will see the charge is on the first page of the forms if you print them and happen to read the forms before putting them away. I became aware of the penalty charge this year when I happened to read the printed pages. I believe that Turbo Tax software would be more helpful if: 1) The taxpayer was made aware of this addition to taxes owed. 2) Suggestions were offered to avoid this charge. This is particularly aggravating for me since we are retired and have to withdraw funds from our IRA retirement account to pay Federal Taxes which increases our income and taxes due. So, we have to pay taxes and a penalty charge for money we had to withdraw to pay taxes. There is something very wrong with this picture. I do realize this is not caused by Turbo Tax, but the taxpayer should be made aware of this penalty that increases taxes owed. For us, this amounted to over $450 this year. UPDATE 02/19/25: Although it did take a few hours to figure out, I did find a way to avoid the $450 penalty added to the taxes. In our case, I had to fill out the 2210 form to explain that extra money had to be withdrawn to pay 2023 taxes and to pay a few other extraordinary expenses. It pays to do your research. Although this software isn't as "cut and dried" as I would like it to be, it beats paying a tax accountant to do our taxes. Incidentally, in the past, I have used tax accountants, and every time I was audited. I have never been audited when I have done our taxes using Turbo Tax. I hope this review was helpful for you.

Even though this is an old review at that time, this was the easiest way to do your TurboTax for myself with the CDO, but now with a new laptop that I have everything is downloaded very fast download the program, but at that time this was the way to do it

I am a very long term Turbo Tax customer and have used the product since at least 2009 (and probably longer than that). What was once a great program has gotten progressively worse, but this year hit a new low. This year the program began requiring registering with Turbo Tax to even use the program. This would be annoying enough if the process works. It doesn't. From my extensive conversations with support, their team is fully aware of the problem but unable or unwilling to fix it. In brief, after using the program and creating an account, the program required to verify my login, which failed. I spent a substantial amount of time trying various options, all of which resulted in a loop that would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating. I tried saying I forgot my password, it would go through the process of resetting it (including email verification), and then immediately prompt me to enter a password before I'd even reset it. I eventually decided to call support. There was a long interactive voice response system that seemed designed simply to frustrate people into not calling. It went through a very long process of making record my name, which it would then repeatedly get wrong and make me repeat and then eventually spell out, and then it would still get it wrong. Eventually it completed this "game" and was (after a wait) transferred to a representative). Their first question was "what's your name"? So much for providing it in advance. After a long process of exploring options that rep said the easiest way to go forward would be to create a new account and simply give up on the old account. I confirmed, repeatedly, that I would NOT need to buy the whole program again (that would be dumb) and would be able to reactivate my old license. I was assured in no uncertain terms that it would work. It didn't. I called back. I played the same "let's say your name" game a second time. I spoke to a rep who said that I would need to get a refund. Except she couldn't give me a refund. She suggested asking Amazon for a refund (too bad, it's over 60 days, so no option there, that's what I get for buying early). So she has to chat (online chat, apparently, she was working from home and having problems with a barking dog) with a more senior representative. She vocally expressed her frustration with the chat process (and again, this was a Turbo Tax paid support person) and how they weren't listening to her and were ignoring what she was telling them. She was eventually informed that she couldn't help me and I'd need to talk to another department to get help and possible a refund. She transferred me. I was informed that there was a 45 minute wait to speak to someone but that they'd call me back. I'm waiting. I don't have high hopes. Do yourself a favor. Don't use Turbo Tax. It's not worth it. It use to be good. Then it was OK. Not it doesn't work and wastes your time. Stay away.
