Day 1 for a rookie coffee maker, and I am loving it!
I am trying to write reviews more often, as i use them all of the time to help me with my relentless research before buying something. So here goes. First: Packaging and the small details mean a LOT to me. It shows the company cares about your full experience with their product. This milk frother had me excited from the moment i started opening the box. It has a great manual (read it all before use people!), was packaged well without making me want to rip anything apart, but it was once i started seeing the machine that i noticed the attention to detail. The cord wrap under the machine that allows for the cord to be wrapped up and come out from several angles so you don't have to try to hide the "ugly" power cords (let's admit, no one likes dealing with cords!). There is a lovely almost mod-sculpted 3 prong plug-in with a hole, which upon reading the manual i discovered is for placing your finger in so you can gently unplug, rather than wrestling to get it out. It might not mean anything to some, but again, those are the details that show me a company wants me to have a great experience with their product fro start to finish. Also, the magnetic disc holder that keeps you from losing the capp/latte attachments is friggin' brilliant. Honestly, when I read that the machine had a built in holder for it, that is when i decided to buy the machine. Otherwise i just knew it would get lost in the drawers and make me frustrated. It's as simple, but decidedly genius as I expected! So i read the manual late at night to prep for my first coffee making experience in the morning ( i also received a Nespresso U machine that day. I've only had a coffee maker at home for the hubby and usually go to Starbuck's or a local place for my latte or macchiato). Lot's of details, but also a brief, succinct section on how to operate. I am not a morning person. Ease is important for me to be interested in anything other than getting ready and driving to starbucks. Let's just say 45 minutes later I am still in my jammies and there is STILL almond milk froth on the top of my beverage. yep. almond milk. I don't do dairy and I am trying to steer clear of soy (people, read up. that much soy is NOT good for you! especially the ladies!). The manual recommends trying multiple brands if your milk is not dairy, and that ALL liquids should be cold and fresh (opened within 3 days). Well mine was cold but opened a week ago. It still was fabulous and easy. Literally just poured the almond milk in, put the lid on, turned the dial to the middle of the "recommended" range, and hit start. I then used my Nespresso U, also for the first time, and after 3 ristrettos were "pulled", my milk was ready. poured in the milk, holding back the froth, added the espresso, topped with foam. genius. I will update as i learn and make more. But i can honestly say there has not been one single thing that i haven't loved about this machine since I saw the amazon box sitting on my door step. I hope this rambling review helps someone in their purchase! UPDATE: just a couple of weeks after i ordered this and i still love it and don't regret my purchase at all. The Almond Milk (I get Almond Breeze Unsweetened Original) foams consistently, whether fresh or a few days after opening. My husband has even started drinking the warmed, frothy extras if i have any after making my lattes. The foam is thick enough that when i finish my beverage up to a half hour or so later, there is STILL froth at the bottom of my mug. Haven't been out for coffee since i got this and my nespresso U!

Better than Dreo by far
Better than the Dreo by far. This frother has temperature control for both latte and cappuccino modes, where the Dreo does not. Temp is an analog dial so it’s just one button press. Foam level for the different discs is perfect whereas with the Dreo it’s all or nothing basically. The jug cleans easier with just a rinse. Having disc storage on the back is a nice touch. The Dreo broke after about a year. I had to run the Dreo twice each cup, once for foam level and then to bring it up to temp after pushing a few buttons. The Dreo finally died with constant beeping and resetting. This is the better frother and it isn’t a close contest.

Way more helpful than anticipated
I’ve had this for two years and I’m surprised I haven’t written a review for it yet. I was on the fence about buying it because it’s so pricey, but I haven’t ever regretted it. First, it seems I bought this after there was some recall for it being a fire hazard some years back. Mine hasn’t caught fire despite a lot of use, so I assume they fixed that issue. Second, I saw some complaints that it won’t froth non-dairy milks. In my experience that’s because non-dairy milks mostly don’t froth without additives, with the exception of hemp milk which is higher protein and froths very well in this machine. The ingredients of almond milk vary a lot, and I think most of us that are health-conscious enough to make our own stuff at home will tend to select almond milks that are just almonds, whereas coffee shops use ones with other ingredients added for costs and frothing purposes. Anyway, this thing works great. It comes with two discs, one that’s designed to froth it like crazy like a cappucuino, and a more subdued one that aerates a bit. I end up using the subdued one more often now that I’m back to milk, but nut milks tend to need the crazy disc. Two things ended up being really useful that I didn’t anticipate: 1) Making matcha lattes is really easy because I don’t have to prep the matcha powder. I just dump 1.5 tsp of matcha into 8 oz liquid and add some honey and it stirs so well the matcha dissolves fine. Similarly, cocoa powder dissolves quickly. 2) Being able to select the temperature, with the bottom temperature being about 100 degrees, is really nice if you’re trying to preserve some of the more delicate compounds in honey. When I’m sick I add a tsp of manuka honey and a tsp of this pollen/propolis/royal jelly/raw honey blend, and just set it to the lowest temperature, and the honey still works. It doesn’t work when I have to heat stuff conventionally at a higher temperature; the compounds start breaking down around 110 to 120F iirc. It should work for powders and such you may want to dissolve into drinks that are similarly heat-sensitive. It’s also easy to drink immediately, although obviously it gets cold much faster. But that’s actually nice too if you want a honey sweetened iced latte; honey won’t dissolve easily in cold drinks, but you can heat it lightly enough to get it incorporated and ice it. It also just lets you stir without heating, which has been useful sometimes. This machine is very easy to clean. I usually just put it in the dishwasher (I have a little covered compartment that I put the disc in), but you can also just put soapy water in it and stir/heat it like you would a drink and then rinse it out. It’s funny but I actually don’t use this as much for coffee as I do matcha lattes and hot chocolate, mostly because I only have a manual espresso machine so making espresso is a bit of an ordeal. But of course it’s great for coffee drinks as well.

Frothy Foam hot or cold
Breville is awesome. First one purchased had to be returned was defective. For the price, I except higher standards and quality control from this company. We had the same product for 7 + years worked well and made extremely sturdy. So we did a return and replace. The product was fine. Works well, well made, excellent frother would buy again and again. Costly, but well made, usually. Wide variety of heat settings from cold brew milk to hot chocolate. Temperature control is easy to use and reliable. Button push start is simple. Spin element creates a wonderful froth form cold to hot and everywhere in between. The unit is well made not too big or too heavy. The frothing cup is not too thick or heavy. I would buy again. My only issue was the companies quality control, we have many of there products never an issue before.

One of the best purchases I've made in the past year
For years, I would visit our local coffee house each day and order a latte; not because their coffee was good, I had coffee beans at home that tasted much better than what they were serving, but because my milk never came out as frothy and creamy as theirs did. Over the years I tried to figure out the tricks to a perfect frothy drink. I read multiple websites about how to froth just right using the steamer on the machine, and while that helped, the milk still wasn't great. Then I found a small milk frother, which, if I ran it for 3 times (about 5 minutes), until the frother was so hot that the machine was close to overheating, would actually give me warm (not hot) frothy milk. When I first read about the Breville Milk Frother, I had actually given up hope of finding a reasonably priced frother that actually worked. And for that reason, I almost didn't order this one. But, the knowledge that I could make enough hot milk for 4 people at a time and the idea of being able to actually control the temperature finally convinced me that it was worth trying. Now, I can't imagine not having it. With 2 teens at home we go through a LOT of milk (probably a half gallon a day). All of us enjoy a drink in the morning, whether it's an espresso latte, hot tea latte, or hot chocolate. If we're all drinking the same thing, we can make enough for everyone at once, instead of making the drinks one at a time. And, depending on the setting, the milk can be the perfect temperature to give to a child or hot enough to burn your tongue (and that's not even at the highest setting). A few lessons we've learned: ● Put the milk (and any other liquids) in and turn it on, then add any non-liquids (sugar, chocolate powder, tea leaves, etc). ● Chocolate needs to be grated or powdered - chocolate chips do not work well because they start melting and keep the frothing gear from spinning (courtesy of son #1). ● Tea leaves and a little vanilla and sugar added to the milk make a delicious tea latte. I recommend using a tea strainer to pour the milk through once the frother stops. ● If you don't have tea leaves, a couple tea bags will work, but either remove the strings or hold down the strings with the frother lid, so that the strings can't catch around the frothing gear. ● A Parmesan cheese grater works wonderfully for grating chocolate - which gives you a large choice of chocolates to try in your hot chocolate. (Our favorite is a spicy chili chocolate - Yummy!) ● The frother is very quiet unless you add something that causes the frothing gear to stop spinning (which you'll know instantly because it suddenly gets very loud). Often, stopping the frother (by pressing and holding the start button for a couple seconds) and restarting will get it spinning again and as soon as the milk heats enough to liquefy the ingredients (like the chocolate chips mentioned above), the grinding will stop. ● The cup is solid metal and separates completely from the bottom gears, making it super easy to clean. ● The top of the lid has a built in, removable measuring cup which comes in handy when you're adding ingredients to the milk. ● Make sure you have the frothing gear that you want *before* you pour your milk in (there are 2, one makes creamier milk and the other makes frothy milk. If you like froth, you'll be happy, it works incredibly well. ● If you let the frothy milk sit for maybe a minute before pouring, the froth rises to the top, making it easy to pour the hot milk into your drink, the spoon the froth on top. Otherwise, it comes out as a free pour, with frothy bubbles mixed into the milk. Both are yummy, so it's entirely your preference which you like best. :) This is my first Breville product, but going by both the design and the quality, I'll definitely be buying more from them. In fact, I'm eyeing their espresso maker for my next purchase.

Solid, quiet and almost perfect
We've had a few of these types of frothers over the last few years, with most of them not holding up well to daily use. I don't think we've had one last a year. So far, this Breville model seems much more solid and we really appreciate the design. It's great that the pieces can be put in the dishwasher as well. We like the solid design. It just feels more substantial than other units. It's quiet, compared to others we've had. The ability to dial in the temperature is a huge plus. I don't think we've ever owned one that offered that option. The jug works great and is easy to clean. The only complaint with it is that the knob that the insert sits on results in a significant indentation on the bottom. This is a place for water to sit in the dishwasher, as there's no way for it to drain. And it's necessary for the way the mug fits on the base, so there probably isn't a good solution that'll maintain how well this works. Anyone who's used a steam wand for frothing, understands that consistency can be dialed in to personal desires much more readily than with these automatic frothers. With these, we're dependent upon the manufacturer to design it how we like it, which doesn't necessarily line up. In this case: The latte insert does a great job of keeping the milk stirred. However, it doesn't incorporate air well, leaving with more of a hot milk than a silky frothed milk. With just a little paddle on it, I think it'd take it to the level it needs to be. It's probably perfect for chocolate milk though. The cap insert will provide a better froth, and lives up to its name. It's not as frothy as a typical cappuccino, but it's close enough. Perhaps if the spin speed was a little higher, these would both work a little better. Or if there were three inserts, the smooth one, one with a few paddles for a latte and then the current cap one being a bit more aggressive. We haven't had it long enough to find out if it'll last better. My initial impression is that it will, which is why I was willing to pay over twice as much as we did for the previous models. I really don't know what we'll do about the texture of the milk for lattes though. More than likely we'll go with the cap insert and live with it. It's not bad, it's just more froth than we'd prefer while not quite being what we're used to for caps.

Great Classic Milk Frother!
This frother was outstanding, albeit expensive. You pay for the quality and the breville name. Is it worth it? Let's find out! Design The design of the breville milk Cafe frother is somewhat the standard nowadays with the base control and warmer, and the detachable picture / frother. This has beThis has become the standard and best design in my opinion, giving you the option to wash the frother in the picture without damaging the electronic element heating portion of the frother. This also allows you the option to put the frother in the dishwasher in certain cases. As far as color options, I could only find this frother in stainless steel. Utility The breville milk Cafe frother quite versatile allowing you to mix as well as froth, and froth at different frothing levels. You can froth for cappuccino to latte, you can froth cold and hot or you can mix hot chocolate or other powdered drinks. Is a dial to control the speed and heat. Most other frothers use buttons for this functionality. Quality The breville milk Cafe frother is sturdy and metal, giving the feel of a well-built product. It feels slightly heavier than other frothers in this segment and looks classic compared to others. I've owned several breville products over the years, and this is quite characteristic of the brand. Speed and effectiveness Frothing with the breville milk Cafe frother was very easy, and pretty fast from a comparison point of view. I would say it was a bit more fast from cold to 150° then most other frothers. Although it frothed very well, it could do a bit better with frothing microfoam.

Minimum inhibitive, likely refurbished from amazon, good product though
Hi all! I did lots of research when trying to decide which frother. I know this frother is expensive, but it should go on sale to about $150 and perhaps you can use some other deals at the time to get the price a little lower. If so, this is totally worth it. My girlfriend works at a hospital, so 3 days a week we have very early mornings. This guy is perfect to help with the coffee making routine when I'm exhausted. Put the milk in, click the button. It goes until its done. Do the same for the coffee, throw them together and we are out the door. There are some people that say the plastic base cracks, I believe this is if you leave the hot metal in there for too long since the plastic does not usually get too hot. I'd recommend just making sure to use your milk in a decent amount of time, or just taking it off the plastic when you get a chance. If you do this, shouldn't have an issue (I haven't). The two frothers are great, one is a latte frother and doesnt make tons of foam (looks just like a cafe froth on top) and the cappuccino really pushes out the foam. I have used this product with water, 2% milk, hot chocolate, matcha, coffee, and almond milk. No complaints. Very easy to clean, I usually just pour my milk+froth into my cups, then rinse it out in the sink and let it dry, easy peasy, little mess to clean ever. Would definitely recommend, it is a bit pricey but I think it certainly can be worth it (especially if you like fancy drinks and starbucks drinks but don't want to drive for it or pay that premium price). How much do you make a drink that could use this? (Coffee, matcha, hot cocoa, warm milk for cookies, even tea for hot water this can be used for (though you won't get foam) How much utility will you get out of it each time? How much is that utility worth to you? If (# times used)(utility per use)(worth$ per utility) > ~$150 over the course of I'd say about 2 years to be safe. Then absolutely it's worth it for you! Disclaimer: My package seemed like it was opened. This is an amazon thing as of late, I feel they are passing refurbished as new. That said, I asked for a new one (and returned the old one) and the new one I got had a better box but was still open (main seal of the product) though the product was fine. This happened to other products from amazon too, so not a Breville problem, but my guess amazon.

The best milk frother I've ever used!
This is by far the best milk frother I've ever used. I've tried other ones that are almost a kettle style, but they didn't work well, were very difficult to clean, and didn't last. I've been using this Breville milk frother almost daily for over a year and it still works like the day I bought it. This is super easy to use and clean. You just pick the disc (either latte or cappucino, depending on how much foam you want), put the milk in, and place the carafe on the stand. There's an easy to use dial on the front to select the temperature (or you can do a cold stir), then you just press the start button and wait! It shuts itself off after the temperature is reached. To clean, you take the carafe off the base and either throw it in the dishwasher or clean it manually. This unit uses induction heating, so the carafe is one piece of stainless steel - there's nothing that connects it to the base. From using this frequently, it produces some of the best quality frothed milk I've ever had. The bubbles are nice and small and the foam is dense. This is a lot easier to use then a steaming wand that comes with most espresso makers. It also makes the best hot chocolate ever - just add the hot chocolate powder/syrup/flakes while the unit is running! Now, the quality of the foam/froth really does depend on the milk you use. I've found that the higher the fat content, the better quality froth/foam that gets produced. Skim/0%, almond and soy produce the least amount of foam that also dissappears quickly. 2% and higher produces much more dense foam that lasts longer. However, in any case it still does a great job at heating and frothing the milk. Overall, for the price, quality, ease of use and cleaning, I would highly recommend this!

Great froth/foamer!
I like this product a lot, it has hot/cold settings and 2 different attachments so you can get more of a foam vs froth. It's very easy to clean and works well. I've tried with cream, 2% milk and oat milk filled to the minimum line and it makes a nice amount in about 2-5 mins. If the attachment is loose it will stop, so safety of the machine is pretty strong.
