Great non-pathological information on personality!
This book is written primarily for psychotherapists, and itprovides a rich framework for understanding personality in a non-pathological way. If you're tired of the limitations imposed by a DSM understanding of personality, and have come to the conclusion that the medical model only goes so far, then this is the book for you. Although the book has multiple layers of understanding, therapists not familiar with the model can fairly quickly assimilate practical suggestions to use with specific clients, as well as develop a deeper understanding of personality development. I have found that clients have much appreciated information I have shared with them, and have used the information to make changes for the better in their lives. If you're not a psychotherapist, this book, as well as the authors previous book TA Today,is well worth reading to see what the possibilities are for positive change. The information in this book on personality development has the potential to renew psychotherpists commitment to helping clients change--a much needed breath of fresh air!

Helpful resource
I have used this book many times over the years to learn more effective ways of approaching clients with specific personality adaptations. For example, it is easy to struggle with a client, who has a playful resistant type of adaptation,if one is unaware of the client's adaptation. Vann Joines points out that playfulness works well with this type of client. The book is rich with examples. The theory is based on a position of okayness in both client and therapist, without the pathologizing seen in other books on personality. The language is clear and straightforward. It is fun to read! I strongly recommended it for therapists,as well as for clients who are interested in reading on personality development.

Excellent Book!
This book will help any therapist become better at understanding and working with clients. It is also helpful for any client to understand him or herself in a new light. The language is easy to understand and enjoyable to read. It offers practical tips on working with each adaptation and gives transcripts of the authors working with clients. I highly recommend reading this book!

Good
This book, and "TA Today" really explains transactional analysis, Character and communication very well. Sums up things in a more direct technical manner, with many examples, and descriptions.Very interesting reading. This book does not explain "disorders" or, yes it does. But more so "Personality Adaptions" and that everyone shows all of them from time to time. But there will always be two of them that you primarily use. And that we can over adapt into the unhealthy side of them. And its interesting, i see so much in my daily life now. I dont like to put other people or myself into boxes, but it is there. And i understand myself better. The paper quality and print is good, tho the backside is prone to breaking.PS. I am just a regular joe. Not in the profession.

Excellent book!
This book feels like the missing link between TA theory and practice. Really useful and practical for gaining rapid inisgits into potential client issues and needs.
