What temperature does this thing cook at? Does it cook at 350 degree F?

Using a candy thermometer, mine goes beyond 400 degrees Fahrenheit and when I cook with it, it cooks the outside just fine but the inside stays raw. I was also using breaded chicken that had sat out to room temperature.

Does this splatter very much while cooking?

YOU ABSOLUTELY "MUST" BUY A SPLATTER SCREEN TO GO WITH IT. IT WILL SPATTER OIL. HOW MUCH DEPENDS ON THE MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE FOOD AND HOW QUICKLY YOU ADD IT. ALSO DO NOT FOLLOW THE COOKING INSTRUCTIONS OR YOU'LL OVER COOK EVERYTHING BIG TIME. AS AN EXAMPLE INSTRUCTIONS SAY 4-8 MINUTES FOR SHRIMP. REALITY IS ABOUT 2 MINUTES 10 SECONDS. FRIES - BOOK SAYS 8-10 MINUTES - REALITY IS ABOUT 4 MINUTES LESS IF THIN CUT. FISH FILLETS - BOOK SAYS 4 TO 8 MINUTES - REALITY IS 3 TO 4 MINUTES DEPENDING ON THICKNESS OF THE FILLETS. BE SURE TO PREHEAT FOR JUST 15 MINUTES. THAT PART THE CHINESE GOT RIGHT. AS A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB WHEN WHAT YOUR COOKING FLOATS ON TOP OF THE OIL ITS DONE. YOU'LL LEARN AS YOU GO . IT IS A GREAT FRYER EXCEPT YOU CAN'T PUT A LARGE AMOUNT IN A ONE TIME. DO NOT GET THE LARGER FRY GRAND DADDY IT SUCKS. IT JUST DOES NOT HEAT THE OIL HOT ENOUGH.

Like everything else-- apparently designed in America (Wisconsin). Made in China. Be that as it may-- this is a grand little fry pot. Holds a lot. The heat is controlled and delivers a lovely finished product. Easy to clean. It is definitely a FIVE STAR in this house hold. Shrimp, Oysters, fish sticks, chicken wings, donuts-- they all come out just perfect. Great price and you know how quick Amazon can get it to your door!
