This fan is very effective. My only dislikes is that the side panels are not long and when you close the window it doesn’t sit flush. This could be a defect in my window itself. Otherwise the airflow is very good and keeps the room cool. Its also very quiet. During the winter I had the flow reversed and it wasn’t freezing in there. It helps me sleep comfortably any time of the day. I will be purchasing another for the other rooms in the house.

The quietest window fan I've ever had . They provide all of the extra cushions to make it fit in the window . The fan made it cooler in my kitchen than I've ever had . I give this fan a 10 out of 10 . Thank you !

We live in a house built in 1918 so remodeling is a challenge. We added a shower to a clawfoot tub but the humidity was peeling the old lead paint on the trim because the bathroom has no exhaust fan. We didn't want to cut a hole in the exterior wall or route a duct through the second story floorboards. This was the perfect solution! Installation was 5 minutes. It came with several sizes of foam pads that fill in the side gaps and squeeze the fan securely into the window. I added a small metal L bracket to the top of the window sash to keep it closed. It even fit within the existing window screen so no bugs or debris get in. The only thing it needs is some way to keep air from blowing back through the unit into the bathroom. I will have to rig up some kind of flap to keep cold air out this winter that still allows us to use it. Still very happy with it and a good price.

I'm glad I decided to order this! I was researching different types of window fans to replace one of the usual two-blade ones I had. I'm glad I went with this one and not the Transom style one which was $20 more. Why? Because this Portal style does not have a thermostat. The one with the thermostat apparently tells you you cannot run the fan if it's under 60 degrees outside! No way! If I want a fan in my window I want to run it even if it's 45 degrees outside - that should be my choice not the fans choice! This Portal one is exactly what I wanted. I am in full control of turning it on or off. When I set it up, I was far more impressed than I expected! I keep it in the landing window of my turn of the century home when it isn't hot enough to run the a/c. I like how you can change it to exhaust without taking it out and reinserting it backwards like my other fan. It was quite impressive to see it switch when I pushed that button. So impressive that I called my housemate upstairs to look at it. I was like a kid showing off a new toy. As for it's work overnight, it was perfect. The low profile brings in less stinky stuff like if my neighbors decide to bbq in the middle of the night, the stench of roasting meat did not infiltrate my upstairs like it did with the other two-blade fan. And if it does, I can push the button to exhaust the smell. It puts out good air flow too, I only needed to run it on Medium. Not sure why other reviewers say it does not put out enough air. It puts out plenty air for me and my needs.

The good: The fan itself, consider the smaller size, provides decent airflow. Not great, not good, but OK airflow - for the slim size. The neutral: It fits OK into a newer window with no trim or sill (like your average cheap vinyl replacement window). The fan is reversible. The bad: Where to start? This product is such a disappointment - a collection of good ideas ruined by Vornado cheaping out resulting in poor execution, poor fit, and a worse seal than your average $30 (junky) window fan. The biggest issue is the fit of the unit itself - it requires a newer window with tight clearances for a secure fit. It does not fit securely into older windows, any sash windows I tried, or into any of the windows having interior sills/trim that fit against a closed sash (common on older windows, wooden sash windows, etc). Any degree of height or padding adjustment under the unit could have resolved this issue - it is simply cheap/poor design on Vornados part, especially considering the higher price-point. The foam blocks included do little to seal the window and can easily be shifted or pushed out. Bugs and mosquitoes can freely come and go around these blocks and through the unit itself as it has no grill or mesh on the exterior to prevent this. Window fans are rarely the best option, but this Vornado fits so poorly that I can honestly recommend just opening your window or propping a cheap box fan on the sill instead… it will move more air and you’ll deal with same number of bugs and poor seal as you would with this unit. The seal and fit of this unit is unacceptably bad for this price point - try a cheaper fan instead.

This is a good fan. Fan speed is equivalent to the SI brand. Works well in a 15x15 room. It is far better compared to a traditional window fan. It is nice for sleeping at night on low with minimal noise.

I purchased this primarily as an exhaust in my kitchen window when I am cast iron searing meat. I used it for the first time tonight and worked above my expectations. My stove and my window are 6-7 feet apart and I seared four steaks and there wasn't any notable smoke in the room. Added bonus the smoke alarm didn’t go off. Also, I literally unpacked it and had it running in 5 minutes or less.
