Best Multi-Band SSB Radio Ever!
So I got this XHDATA radio, (another one - I know!) but this is probably their best all round set - the XHDATA D-808. First off, the sound on this thing is really clear. The built-in speaker’s got some decent oomph to it – you’re not left straining to hear, even if there’s a bit of noise about. Using the Bandwidth button can also improve the sound. It picks up all sorts of stations too, so whether you’re after FM, MW, or all the shortwave stuff, it’s got you sorted - including Air Band, and Single Side Band - so cool for amateur radio listening & other SSB broadcasts. Size-wise, it’s quite neat - just big enough to feel sturdy but not a faff to carry around. Fits right in my small shoulder sports bag, which is a great for taking it down the allotments or on a weekend away. There’s even a 3.5mm headphone jack, so if you’re in the garden or on the bus, you can stick your headphones in and listen away without bothering folks around you. Charging it’s a doddle too – comes with a USB-C cord, and there’s a decent battery in it, so you’re not forever hunting for a plug. It lasts ages once it’s charged, mind, which is ideal if you’re outdoors a lot. It’s got some belting extras as well – there’s an automatic scan function, so it finds and saves loads of stations for you (up to 100 per band, they reckon). You can even set it as an alarm clock, which I wasn’t expecting – either a nice gentle radio wake-up or a buzzer if you’re a heavy sleeper. It’s dead handy with the time display, too – you can set it yourself or it’ll do it for you if it picks up the RDS signal (on FM). Comes with everything you’d need – USB cord, long wire antenna, battery (just remember to take that little bit of paper out before using), and even a carry bag to keep it safe. Plus, there’s a 12-month warranty, so you’re covered if anything goes wrong. All in all, it’s cracking value for money. Decent sound, loads of features, and portable enough for wherever you’re headed. I've included loads of different pictures in the review. I mean, it looks very stylish as well 👍 Also, I can only upload one video with Amazon - so did a quick shortwave scan when I was out in the garden - picking up several international broadcasters. I still haven't got through experiencing everything on the radio as there's so much to play with and enjoy! 👍😀 But... I'm so enthused about it... lol... I just wanted to tell you all about it! So - "Yes" - I would highly recommend the XHDATA D-808. In my view it's probably the best one they make, and from what I've experienced so far of it I don't think there's a better one (made by anyone) that performs well and is such a great price 👍😀 Get one today!

A USEFUL POCKET PORTABLE SSB/CW RADIO
I received this product really quickly using the free trial of Prime (on offer at the time of ordering) which meant that delivery was quick and free. This radio is very portable and nicely made and receives all the different types of signal as per the description. Sensitivity on LW is not that good I found, even for Radio 4 on 198kHz but improves on MW. SW sensitivity is very much improved compared to LW/MW I found. I received plenty of signals when propagation and time of day allowed including Ham Radio signals on SSB and CW. When used on SW indoors with its own telescoplic aerial and near modern light bulbs and other digital equipment, you may find the interference from these is stronger than the signals you are trying to receive. In such situations the external antenna input this radio has is very handy. I did not try an external wire aerial on LW or MW as these are not my main interest. Overall, I think this is a decent radio with advanced features (you may need to read the manual) considering its small size and long life rechargeable lithium battery. Do not expect £500 radio performance if you are a Ham but overall the performance is not bad at all for what it is. Tuning does chuff between increments but the steps are adjustable and the gaps between steps are filled in by adjusting the fine tuner which is beneath the main tuner. This feature is essential on SSB and CW. The USB charger needed to recharge the supplied battery was not supplied in the box but I just used my Samsung J3 phone charger which worked fine so no problems there. Air band was tried breifly but in my locality, which is Hull, I did not find any signals. I am keeping this radio for sure.

Compact WORLD Radio with Pilot Chatter
Great compact radio with very good build quality. I bought it for monitoring air band pilot chatter and it works well for that combined with some websites. The short wave spectrum is amazing for listening to world radio broadcasts from New Zealand to Tobago. It's a fine skill as it depends on time of day and frequency but I recommend you read the website short-wave DOT info (replace DOT with . ) and the tab called propagation. The site will list all the world stations and frequencies theybarevtransmitting in , a but like the TV guide but for radio. PROS: Great quality, retractable antenna, small, built in rechargeable battery that charges with a mobile phone charger CONS: Would have been awesome if it had Bluetooth connectivity so I could link it to my wireless earphones.

Positive first vibe from XHDATA D-808
This is my first review as I have just received the radio. First impression is very positive. It is well packaged and the radio itself seems to be well built. I am loving the size, as it is substantially smaller and lighter than my Tecsun PL-600, which I bought it to replace. I will be taking it away with me next week on holiday, so I will give a fuller report focussing on reception then. The initial feeling is that this has been money well spent.

Deaf on WFM and on VHF AM airband. Very Poor AM demodulation
Updated: Even though the radio can "fully quieten" on a AM Civil Airband signal, the demodulation is absolutely terrible. As a professional Radio Engineer, I have full test equipment and put the D-808 on test with a typical VHF carrier with AM modulation at varying percentages (50-90%) Although the accuracy of the D-808 tuning is good, it still cannot demodulate AM at all on VHF. I tested it alongside a Icom A6E which I tuned to pickup Scottish Control - no problem. Same frequency on the D-808. Nothing, not a sausage! That is with telescopic aerial fully extended. Great on HF (Short wave). As a test I tuned to Shannon Volmet on 5505 Khz USB. Perfect! As good as my HF set and better than my SDR with dipole. I am not interested in LW or MW but was impressed with the HF. Lets see if it will demodulate FM on 11/10m CB! Might just have to tear it down and modify it so I can have FM on that band. Which leads me to WFM. I tried with the local WFM station "Heart" on 105.4 Mhz which the transmitter is 9Km away on Winter Hill running around 20Kw? Anyway the IBA masts are also line of sight for me so why can the D-808 not hear it but my tiny cheap Baofeng UV5R demodulate it perfectly Tried BBC Radio 2 on 88.6 Mhz, nothing but mush. Rock FM on 97.4Mhz and Smooth on 100.4Mhz also wishy-washy noisy. I even tried to couple a Discone to the aerial (antenna) input. I set it in WFM mono as that would normally help but no. I even tried mving positiona d waving the aerial about but no, still cr4p. Haven't tried Airband yet; now I live right under busy aircraft lanes North/South and East/West. My Icom A4E picks up Manchester Airport Approach and Tower and all the control frequencies. My SDR picks up everything on its tiny magmount....... I programmed all the frequencies into the D-808 and heard nothing yet. This is the last chance before it gets returned, shame really, its a nice looking radio and apart from the stupid grossly inaccurate temperature display (minimum 11'c + out)

XHDATA D-808
Having read several reviews of this radio on the internet I had reasonable expectations from what is a very reasonably priced receiver £69 currently from Amazon. I am a licensed radio amateur and have "too many" radios according to my wife. Mediumwave coverage is excellent and the various band width filters help to cut down on interference from strong nearby stations. I compared reception of Manx Radio with that of the Eton E5 and found them very close but with the Eton losing out on selectivity. One review I read speaks of the agc being too fast on ssb thus the first half second of a message was lost, but on my radio this problem was not there so maybe the firmware has been improved upon. This radio's sensitivity on airband is remarkable and with a decent squelch control which, if properly adjusted, really works. Most of my listening on the radio has been done on the telescopic antenna and I spent a couple of happy hours listening to 160m Ham band and found the radio to be incredibly sensitive. I am delighted with this little radio and with it's rechargable battery included it is hard to see how they can produce such a quality item for such a decent price. Tuning across the bands does result in a noticeable muting (chuffing) sound but this is a minor point and doesn't detract from it's performance once you get used to how it works. Memory entry is a breeze and one of the easiest I have come across with 10 memories per page. Press and hold to enter a memory on your desired key number and press quickly to recall the memory. Press page and your desired page number on the keypad and then you have another 10 memories to fill using the above-mentioned method. All in all you won't find anything comparable in it's price bracket and, as a bonus, it will fit into most jacket pockets.

I am less happy.
This is a good quality receiver that does what it says on the box. Not cheap, but worth the money. All bands work well and unit is sensitive, but not driven to distortion. Positive points..... All.... Bad points... The only negative points is that it could be a little larger and the manual needs a magnifying glass to read it... But do read the manual.. If you want to listen to shortwave, amateurs and aircraft, this is great for indoor use, unlike my Yaesu.. NOTE... I have not received anything for this recommendation. Addendum.... Still pleased and the air and is sensitive.... Biggest problem so far encountered.... Using the memory... Not intuitive... Further update.. Is it possible to turn the alarm off? Normally a short push stops the alarm and a long push cancels the alarm on all clocks.. Nope.... No matter what I do, it just keeps turning itself back on! There is nothing in the manual about it either and just to prove the point, my wife has tried and failed... This is not good design and totally unnecessary. Eventually, we found by trial and error that the AL symbol doesn't mean the alarm is on or off, there is a minute sign that I cannot even see with reading glasses on.... So much for sight impaired people..

Radio Versatile a prezzo imbattibile.
