it works
It helps get an idea of the temperature that I anneal brass rifle cartridges

A Must for Annealing
I have been annealing my brass at a buddy's house for a few months and we use Tempilaq (specifically TL060) to gauge when the brass is properly annealed. It's very simple: swab a little on the inside of the neck and run it through your annealer. (My video is done with the AGS Annealer.) It doesn't get any simpler than that. This stuff is a must for consistent annealing!

Surefire way to know when cartridge brass is correctly annealed
I use the 700 and 750 degree TEMPILAQ to adjust the flame and rotational speed of my Annealeez brass cartridge annealing machine to achieve the ideal temperature range. Serious reloaders know that cartridge brass work-hardens with each reloading/firing cycle. Hard brass splits and lacks consistency. Annealing returns the brass to factory new ductile condition, and can be done many times. The "magic" is knowing exactly the right temperature and time so brass isn't over annealed, burned, or "just warmed' without any true softening. This paint works GREAT - but it always dries up in the bottle before it is used up (regardless of tightening the lid and storing in another air-tight container). I may try the pens next - although more expensive per oz of paint, they may actually last longer.

IT WORKS
Good weapon to have in your arsenal if you anneal.

Make seal better or move to glass containers
Would be nice if it had a glass not plastic container. It drys out. Fast every.

Great for annealing case necks
I use it to set the time required for properly annealing case necks. Paint it inside the neck and let it dry. Once in the annealer it will go to liquid as soon as temp is reached. Once the settings are correct I make the run. Only a little is needed for the set up. The bottle will last a long time for this purpose. Make sure to shake it well to mix it before applying.

It works great but absolutely purchase a bottle of thinner with it.
It evaporates in the bottle. I used it two or three times applying literally small DOTs of Tempilaq on brass for annealing for a total of approximately 15 dots. The bottle is now half full, not because i've used that much but because it quickly reduces itself when you open the bottle. Buy the thinner and refresh your bottle here and there... also keep the mouth of the bottle very clean. Otherwise you'll have to break through a cap of dried tempilaq that has gathered on the cap and the bottle mouth. That said, yes, it is useful for annealing as a temperature indicator.
