Visioneer Patriot D40 Duplex Scanner for PC and Mac, 70 PPM, Sheetfed 80 Page Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)

It's clear that the big problem this scanner is the remarkable number of fools who buy it. A number of the reviewers simply do not have any clue whatever. If you are not a fool, this scanner will serve you well for any reasonable purpose. It has various interfaces that differ in complexity and power. I invariably use the TWAIN interface to scan to ABBYY ScanReader, which gives me a great deal of control over the output. I generally find that I can produce copies that look a good deal crisper and cleaner than the tattered and faded old originals. It does jam sometimes but it is rare, and often my mistake when it does. (E.g., failing to be sure the pages are separated.) Jams are easy to clear and the scanner usually detects them and stops before much damage has been done to the paper. The feedpath is quite straight and nearly flat, meaning that the scanner will easily handle a wide variety of papers. Scanning is very quick at a resolution setting of 300 dpi, but slows significantly at other resolutions. Fortunately 300 dpi is usually right. There was a time when scanners were a good deal faster in B&W mode, but not this one. B&W, grayscale, and color all seem to go equally fast. The scanner folds up easily into a very tidy package that looks good on the desk and protects the interior mechanism. It's not very loud when scanning and you can converse normally. I've used this intensively for two years and am very satisfied with it.

A small compact scanner that can handle those big jobs. Don’t let the size of this scanner fool you; it can handle large multi-page business reports, financial documents, and photos. It is fast, quiet and easy to use. The picture quality it produces is excellent. This scanner is great for small as well as large businesses. The set up was easy and to use. It is PC and Apple compatible. I have had my scanner for two months and have been very happy with it. I would highly recommend this scanner.

When Thanksgiving and Xmas is coming, my anxiety of preparing to file tax is raising. I decided to invest a scanner and digitalize all my small business paper and receipts so I can organize them into different folders and search them later on. Search-able PDF is top on my list to choose a scanner. This Visioneer scanner did an amazing job after 3 days trying. Very fast and handle different kind of papers very well. I am excited to be more organized.

Great scanner. First one finally had pickup rollers go out after 3 years and did not want to buy and install replacement rollers. Relatively heavy use and necessary for business. Would buy again.

THIS SCANNER WOULD NOT WORK RIGHT OFF THE START. DID EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO SET-UP DIRECTIONS. CALLED XEROX THROUGH AMAZON TWO DAYS IN A ROW. NEITHER REP COULD HELP ME. WAS GIVEN DIRECT # TO XEROX. WAS ON THE PHONE WITH HIM FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 HOURS. HE DID REMOTE TO MY DESKTOP, AND AFTER 1 1/2 HOURS, I STARTED ASKING QUESTIONS. THEN WAS TOLD SOFTWARE WAS DEFECTED. XEROX KNEW THAT, AND THEY ARE WORKING ON IT NOW. SO THEY SENT IT ANYWAY. WHAT REALLY UPSET ME WAS THAT I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE BEST SCANNER FOR MONTHS, AND THIS WAS THE ONLY SCAMMER THAT HAD 8 5* REVIEWS, SO THIS IS THE ONE I ORDERED. REP SUGGESTED A DIFFERENT ONE FOR ME, THE XEROX 3125. I LOOKED UP THIS MODEL HERE ON AMAZ0N.COM, AND THERE IS 2 1/2 PAGES OF 1* REVIEWS. SO...DO NOT TRUST REVIEWS OR XEROX...!!! AM RETURNING.

if there is a lot of detail on the page you are scanning you will get a very poor unreadable scan. if it is a plain letter or a text page with no lines or additional graphics you are wasting your time trying to scan it.

I have used Visioneer Scanners in my business for close to 15 years now and I am always happy with the product and the awesome customer support. This is the first time I have ordered from Amazon and I had a great experience. The package arrived on time with no damage. I would highly recommend this product and any other from this company.

In Costa Rica the windows system update disables the driver, so you have to re install it, also the interface is not user friendly and installation of driver is very cumbersome.
