The never-before-told inside story of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center — an epic tale of business, politics, and engineering by the man who spent two decades working to make it happen After the terrorist attacks of 9/11 destroyed the World Trade Center, New Yorkers and Americans faced a critical set of questions: What should be done with the site? Could the towers be replaced? And how best to memorialize those lost on that day? For Larry Silverstein, a lifelong New Yorker who had signed a lease for the properties just a few months before the attacks, the answer was clear: America had to rebuild as quickly as possible. In The Rising , Silverstein recounts in vivid detail his long battle to construct a new World Trade Center complex and to revitalize the surrounding neighborhood while also memorializing the victims of the attacks. Silverstein made history in 2001 when he signed a 99-year lease on the 10.6-million-square-foot World Trade Center for $3.25 billion. For the next twenty years, he navigated warring political interests, byzantine city bureaucracies, and resistant insurance companies, as well as the many challenges of designing, engineering, and constructing several new towers in the heart of downtown Manhattan. More than once the entire project almost folded, but today the buildings are nearly complete and the neighborhood is once again a thriving hub that draws hundreds of thousands of people a day. The Rising is a vibrant portrait of the inner workings of New York City in the wake of its most profound tragedy, but it is also a master class in how to succeed in business despite all odds. Full of outsize characters and relentless adversity, this is a riveting book about a remarkable feat of vision and determination. Review: Never bet against New York! - The Rising by Larry Silverstein is a must-read for anyone in the New York City real estate world. The book offers an inspiring behind-the-scenes look at Silverstein's journey—from acquiring the World Trade Center just before 9/11 to the long, challenging process of rebuilding one of the most symbolic sites in the world. Silverstein’s story is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and the ability to adapt in the face of adversity. The narrative not only reflects his personal grit but also highlights the collaborative effort required to overcome political, financial, and emotional obstacles during the rebuilding process. Through Silverstein’s experiences, readers gain insights into the complexities of large-scale urban development and the importance of believing in the city, no matter the odds. At its core, The Rising serves as a reminder to never bet against New York City—the greatest city in the world. It celebrates the spirit of persistence and underscores that with hard work, vision, and optimism, any challenge can be met. Silverstein gives us a Master Class in tenacity
I’m one of the thousands of people who got to work on a part of the new WTC. As a PM for one of the architects on Tower 4, I was on site in 2006 and 2007… when it still seemed like just a gigantic hole in the ground. Silverstein’s new Building 7 was just opening, and the view of the entire ‘Bathtub’ from where we’d meet in their offices was stunningly tragic. Walking around inside the closed site that first time… with my liaison at the PANYNJ describing what we were looking at, and sharing his own experiences on The Day… brought tears to my eyes. Especially seeing the remains of that concrete staircase with an open door revealing stacked office chairs… burnt in place… with nothing left standing around it. I couldn’t believe that after FIVE YEARS there were so many hurdles continuing to be thrown at those trying to redevelop the rest of the property… and it was ultimately disappointing that even my own team had to be sent home until some of the roadblocks were removed. Thank you, Larry Silverstein, for documenting your experience at the vanguard of bringing life back to that area during these 20+ years since 9/11. It answered a lot of my own questions about the project, and lent perspective to the massive and complex issues that had to be handled over the years.

Larry Silverstein's unfiltered account of rebuilding the World Trade Center
This book offers a candid, first-person account of the complex process of rebuilding the World Trade Center. Larry Silverstein provides a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges, negotiations, and setbacks involved, without the usual PR gloss. It's an eye-opening read for anyone interested in how large-scale urban projects come together, especially when they involve the complicated dynamics between the private sector and government.

Life changing
This book brings the behind the scenes of one of the most iconic and patriotic projects in history - the rebuilding of the World Trade Center. Larry Silverstein is an icon. A man that changed the face of New York. It is a page turner and written so well that you feel as if you went through the events, the politics, the challenges together with Larry. Many of the personal stories were never shared in public. I could not put the book down. Each story gives a new meaning to the word Grit and Passion. A tue patriot, optimist and man of values.

A once in a generation story!
This book was the perfect gift to my brother who is a commercial property owner, developer, financier himself. Larry Silerstein's account of the historic destruction and decades long resurrection of the Twin Towers site in lower Manhattan is sure to be an interesting read!
