Works well
Easy yo install in my plastic work sink, two screws and some silicone to seal the screws. For other installations I would use the silicone and let it dry

Product does not function exactly as described
My initial review (4-2012): When the switch works, it works great. Problem is, it doesn't function exactly as described. The description states ""on" level range is 6" - 9", "off" level range is 1" - 4". It cuts off at 2", BUT it doesn't cut on until 12" of water accumulate, and that is in a 5 gallon bucket of water. Used as a pump for siphoning rain water off of a pool cover, which is the ONLY reason I bought it, IT NEVER TURNS ON. So in my opinion, IT FAILS MISERABLY. It is easier (and cheaper) to operate it manually! I called their customer service within a week or two of this review (forgot about this review until now 1-2013) and related the problem. They were very polite and kindly sent out a low level switch free of charge. Easily replaced it myself. It now cuts on at a much lower water level (approx 1-2"). It has operated flawlessly since then, cold weather, warm weather, dirty rain water or clean. It is extremely well constructed and sturdy for such a small inexpensive pump. I am very happy with this pump!

Works fine - got me thru Hurricane Sandy!
I found that the original switch on my sump pump was not switching off so I needed to make a call to replace the switch or replace the entire unit. My basement flooded during Irene - so I knew I was in danger of that happening again and didn't want to take any chances. I replace the switch, tested it and all has been well - but I did get a generator and spare battery for the backup pump as in a power outage it doesn't matter if the pump is working when you have no power ... and then Sandy hit. Boy was I glad. The switch, and the pump, worked flawlessly all thru the rain and the snowmelt from the following storm. This was much cheaper than a new pump. Very easy to fit (2 screws) and could actually be used to operate dual-pumps if you had that setup to handle very large volumes, or wanted the redundancy. Be aware that it needs a decent head of water before it activates - I needed to pour 15-20 gallons into the sump before it triggered - seems to need 8-10 inches of head. This is actually a good thing - pumps have a longer life if they have a longer cycle time - better to run for 30 seconds an hour than 10 seconds 3 times an hour. Just don't think it's not working if you have a foot of water in your sump and it's still not on - the footer and mounting will take 4-5 inches.

Solid Performer
I purchased a new one of these that was in service for several years. My application likely runs 100 times per day. I am not completely satisfied with the reliability, but the float-less design is excellent for tolerating debris and other obstructions that cause problems with typical float sensors. In the future I will be trying other float-sensors that allow a larger range of depth settings to reduce the number of cycles

Great Product - Saved my Fish!
The Little Giant RS-5 Piggyback Diaphragm Switch works just as described! My current pond arrangement has two waterfalls. I made the mistake of not containing everything in a single liner or molded pond. The second pond and two waterfalls were added a year after the first pond. Unfortunately, the waterfall from the organic filter has twice developed a leak. Had I not caught in time, it would have resulted in a nearly complete drain of the lower pond. This little device shuts down the pump if the water level drops protecting the pump and the fish. Very easy installation - plug and play!

Works well, but has some design defects
Works well enough... But has some easy to fix design defects that are so glaring it's strange they were not caught before! First, the pros: looks good and solid enough, works very well: starts and stops the water at about the expected levels. But, there are two cons: first, plastic construction is very light: so light in fact that it floats in the water and does not sink to the bottom! So I can't just lower it down and have it sit at the bottom of the sump well, but rather have to place a brick on it to keep it down. Can't believe the company could not attach a small metal weight to weigh it down! Second con is lack of any way to test it: my old diaphragm switch has a small button I could push to test it, but not this guy. So, I am keeping it, but 2 very small things could have made me a lot happier! Minus 1 star for each of them.

Works perfect (so far)
Works perfect (so far). It's screwed into lower pump housing on a non Little Giant 3200 GPH pump located within a pond skimmer. You'd just have to make sure your screws don't penetrate a vital pump area.

Lasted three years of heavy use
Installed on 12/12/2010. Still working well after 6 months. It has a long on/off range so the pump doesn't start/stop as often, but it does run longer each time. So, that should save electricity and the pump. Edit: In October 2013, I noticed the switch was keeping the pump on a LONG time... even after the sump pit was empty. I tried to clean the switch using a few methods, but that didn't work. Things don't last forever and since our sump pit fills up quickly (every 90 seconds when it's really wet), I figured three years was a good run and replaced the switch with the same model.

Replaced an switch in a septic tank
Had the unpleasant job of having to replace the switch in a septic holding tank. Once all of the "stuff" was pumped out of the tank we were able to install this and it worked great all summer. Cottage shut down for winter but hoping it works for us come next year too.

Great automatic switch for my sump pump!
This took a bit of fiddling, but after proper setup it is the perfect replacement for the non-functional float switch on my sump pump. Keep in mind is this is a pressure differential switch. The water level will be reduced by approximately 7" or 175 mm when the switch turns on the pump. The lower down in the sump you affix the switch, the lower the levels will stay. I have it about 4" (100 mm) above the bottom of my sump, and this switch consistently keeps the water level between 2" (50 mm) and 10" (250 mm). It starts my pump automatically whenever the water reaches that ~10" mark, and pumps down to ~2-3". There is always water in the bottom of my sump, so the pump doesn't ever start dry. I was concerned about the cost of this switch, but I am very happy with my purchase. It has been running flawlessly since November.

does what it has to
Had a first switch die out after 7 years of service (removing it for winter), with water infiltrating into the chamber (I am guessing there should not be water there). 4 stars out of 5 because could have lasted longer - the pump itself is still running...
