It is exactly what it says. 30Lbs of cast iron, ready to forge your squishy self into a weapon. It is the antidote to dad bod, erectile dysfunction, male pattern baldness, trigger warnings, love handles, lack of libido, general wussery, complaining, poorly trained dogs, whiny children and grumpy spouses. It put 2 cup sizes on my wife when I took it out of the box. The dog started doing push-ups and singing the star spangled banner without me saying a word. I slid this bad boy up in my ruck, slung it on my back, took a deep breath, and immediately heard a bald eagle scream from the treetops. Legend has it he'll do the same for you. The fit and finish are as expected from this company, which is to say bombproof. it did a number on the Fedex box, but the plate was fine. If you are the type of human that complains about a scratch on your ruck plate due to free shipping, then you probably need to just not buy this and go pop another bag of doritos on the couch while you complain about being out of shape. If you want to be able to quickly throw on some weight for ruck training, weighted pullups, or similar training, then pair this with the GoRuck RPC 3.0 standard and you're ready to go. This 30lb plate fits perfectly in the RPC 3.0 standard. The 30lb weight, once the top flap is closed, leaves just enough velcro showing on the back of the carrier to fit a standard sized velcro name tape, which is ideal for me. There are cheaper alternatives out there, but the 30 pound plates in particular are hard to find at these specific dimensions. (It is easier to find 30, 35, and 45 pound plates to fit the RPC 3.0 long). What you do get for the higher price of the GoRuck plate here, though, is the impeccable finish and high quality casting that comes from a made in America product. Now that many of the competitor ruck plates have been rising in price, the value for the money makes even more sense.

How was the item? Heavy. That’s why I bought it! I appreciate how it fits so well into the GORUCK plate carrier. Of course, it also fits handsomely into the GORUCK backpack too. I have used it a few times since it arrived in both of those packs. It is easy to slide from one to the other. It is an exact fit for the plate carrier. I do have some other plates that have notches on the sides. Those notches also fit, but they are much more difficult to transfer because of the tolerances on the plate carrier—the notches, designed to anchor two plates together manage to hang up on the plate carrier. So, having the genuine GORUCK plate makes the packs more accessibly versatile. And, I might point out, the plates are durable. Heck, they’re cast iron, but the plate seems to be coated with a rust inhibiting treatment. I wouldn’t leave the plates out in the rain, but it is good to know that they are coated with a rust inhibiter. The handles on the plate are large which makes it easy to grab and adjust the weights in a pack. Because of the size of the grab handles, this plate can be used for other exercises in addition to being put in a pack. 20lbs is 20lbs no matter who manufactured the plate. The GORUCK plate was certainly more expensive that other plates that could be used. I will admit that I got the GORUCK plate for me it was the matter of convenience.

Not being made in China earns this an extra star, but the quality is less than expected for cast iron @ $3/lb. There are no sharp edges, but some rough spots that should have been ground down before powder coating. No one's ever going to see them, but it may affect the long term adhesion of the coating. But then again, it's cast iron that will be kept locked away in your pack. Unless you are OCD, you will get over it. It does fit the GORUCK basic rucker perfectly and the weight is accurate.
