Is the metal in the bottom encased in glass or does the water touch the metal?

My 1.8L stainless steel and glass unit has a steel bottom.  A silicon gasket is used to seal the joint between the glass and the steel base.   It appears that the same type of silicone gasket is used to seal the glass rim to the stainless steel collar at the top of the unit.   As long as the unit was designed and assembled properly, the existence of the silicone gasket is not a concern to me, because silicone gaskets and O-rings have a service temperature range of negative 100 degrees Fahrenheit to positive 400 degrees Fahrenheit.   I did notice, however, that the stainless steel collar has surface rust on the inside of the lip, around the rim.   Most, but not all, of the rust can be wiped off with a paper towel.   I have to decide if I want to live with a small amount of surface rust, which does not affect functioning and which is not visible from the outside of the unit, or if I want to spend time and money researching and testing rust removers.

I'm reading mixed reviews on how quickly this kettle boils water. How long does it take your kettle to heat up 1.5L of water?

This is about the 7th electric kettle that I have owned over 30+ years.  I love it.  It takes the same time to boil as all the others I've had.  I have never timed it, but it is much quicker than boiling water on the stove, and my stove is gas.  Being able to view the water inside the glass makes me feel it looks fresher, and the blue lights that glow while it is heating water is comforting.  I have owned kettles that cost a lot more than this one, but I believe this one is my favorite.  I chose the green and it is so cheerful in the kitchen.

Is the plastic BPA free?

I  had the same dilemma and. Wanted to avoid plastic and aluminum and any non stick stuff so I settled for this pot  and two years later super happy. This is all stainless, no seams no aluminum no plastic in the body or lid inside.
None of this inside. Outside beautifully insulated and cool  to touch.

I found this on the website for US made kettles as well.  Let me know if you find one.  And yes, it does make a difference.  I prefer to support US made.
