MESMERIZING!!!
This was an impulse buy for sure, it was the first thing that came up when I searched for โPerpetual Motion Device.โ Best impulse buy ever! The simplest way to describe this product is a zen garden that does all the work for you. The marble moves on its own, almost like magic, drawing patterns all throughout the sand. It functions perfectly, moving almost effortlessly as it rolls along. There are hundreds of patterns to choose from! Depending on which pattern you choose, it could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours for the marble to draw it at max speed. More complex patterns take longer to draw. There is no work to be done, the marble does everything for you. All you have to do is set it up, and it does the rest! You donโt even have to worry about cleaning the canvas before starting a new pattern, it does that too! Initial setup is easy. You open the bag(s) of sand and pour them right in the center of the felt. You then use the included rake to spread the sand around the canvas. Once you do that, you place the marble in the center and then download the HoMedics drift companion app. The app will walk you through setting up the product, and will perform an initial โcleaningโ session, in which the marble moves in a spiral pattern, spreading the sand out evenly and โclearingโ the canvas to prepare it for your first pattern. The app will start in โDemoโ mode, running the preset Demo playlist. You can stop this playlist and choose your own patterns, or just let it run. You can also create your own playlists containing your favorite patterns! You can change the color of the ambient lighting in the app, and it is fully customizable. You can even set it to color cycle or breathing if youโd like. When a drawing is in progress, there is an indicator that shows how complete the pattern is, indicated by a percentage. Pretty nifty feature. I could and have watched this thing run for hours. It is unbelievably entrancing and relaxing, and itโs a great way to take your mind off things and just zone out. There is a bit of a grinding sound from the marble rolling along, as shown in the provided video, but itโs not annoying at all. In fact, it actually enhances the experience. All in all, I would very highly recommend buying this product! If youโre on the fence, just get it now, you wonโt be disappointed in the slightest!

Just wonderful.
Beautiful. Very happy with purchase. A little pricey but so nice to watch. Very relaxing. I use it every day. I even created schedules for it to run. Love the different patterns and enjoyed the Christmas designs during the holidays. Very easy to setup. Takes about fifteen minutes from unpacking to watching it run. The first one they sent did not work but the second one was perfect. Itโs heavy which is nice as it doesnโt feel cheap but substantial.

App is garbage
This is supposed to be relaxing, but the app and the support is garbage. I have to login every single time and go through a ton of nonsense to even get logged in. It should have a button on the side I can push to turn it on and be relaxed. Now it won't work at all and I'm stuck with a $200 paperweight that I can't access because the app fails to desktop every time. I do not recommend this, it has not been relaxing whatsoever.

Put it on an even surface to balance the sand and magnet.
I love this thing!! So entertaining and fun! The designs are really intricate and theyโre a lot to choose from. You can set it to color patterns or to just one color. There is also a selection of musical shorts to choose from on the app. of this model so it makes it more Zen and relaxing..๐๐๐

Beautiful but tricky trying to get it to work with Android
Update 2: For reasons I don't understand the device stopped communicating with my Pixel 6a even after using the phone to set it up. I had to switch to an old LG V30. It works about 7 out of 10 tries with the LG. Enough to change the settings and patterns. Once it's up and running it doesn't really need tweaking. But if you decide to change the lights and patterns it will need the app. I honestly don't understand why this is such a riddle for Homedics. Every other Bluetooth device I've ever owned works more consistently that the Drift. It's worth the hassle, though. The device is gorgeous. Update 1: I initially wrote a very negative review. Now that I finally figured out how to get it to work I love it! If you're using Android, it needs to connect via Bluetooth to do a firmware update before you can set it up. The drift never shows up on my list of available Bluetooth devices. However, the app does provide the device as an option. The first several times I tried to do the firmware update the process froze and I had to start over. I turned the drift on and off and rebooted my phone. That seems to do the trick because I was finally able to update the firmware. It took several minutes, maybe 5-10 but I didn't count. After the firmware update I was able to change the settings for the Drift. In terms of size, I chose the 16 inch and am glad. It fits nicely on a rectangular coffee table. For me the 21 inch would be way way too big. However, I could see turning the 21 inch into it's own end table. But unless you have a specific spot that can fit the larger one, I would recommend the 16 inch. Now that it works this thing is absolutely gorgeous. The level of detail in the patterns is truly impressive and the lighting is perfect. It's a piece of art that also makes its own art.

I could watch this run for hours!
This is an amazing product. I have been looking at a similar product for several years but finding this one makes me glad that I never pulled the trigger on buying the other manufacturer's version. This table arrived very well packed, with the table/base, glass top, 1 bag of sand, a small rake, power adapter with several changeable plugs for customizing to one's power outlet, and of course the steel ball that makes all the magic happen. It took roughly 5 minutes to set up the table. I added the sand, used the rake to level it, dropped the ball into the center, and powered it up. It immediately began a "cleaning" cycle, meaning it produced what appeared to be a coil, the purpose of which is apparently to further spread and level the sand. Then it began creating designs. Once it was running I took a few moments to download and install the accompanying app. Now I use an Android smartphone, and I was completely prepared for the app not to work - I had read so many negative reviews about the app from Android users. But much to my surprise the app connected to the table quickly, and i was thereafter able to control the table via my phone. Adjusting speed of the ball, color combinations, and the pattern(s) created were all at my fingertips. I can even power on/off the unit via the app. Oh...I almost forgot! When I launched the app and connected to the table I was prompted to update the table's firmware, which I did. In addition to other things the temperature of the light (on the Kelvin scale, not the heat generated) can be controlled, as can the frequency of color changes, the brightness of the light, and the frequency of change of color under the user selected color palette. Now the table goes about its day making one beautiful pattern after another. Every time I pass it I feel compelled to stop and gaze at the pattern it is making. Unlike most pieces of art, and I do consider this a piece of art, this one changes moment to moment. There are dozens of available designs, including many for different holidays. This table occupies a prominent location in our home, and I hope it continues to mesmerize us for years to come.
