Great Value Compact Drone for Beginners and Casual Flying
The DJI Neo 1 is a small and compact drone with a very good price-to-quality ratio. It’s an excellent option for beginners or for people who don’t need a large, complex drone or special permits. In my case, living in Colombia, drones under 200 grams do not need to be registered and are considered recreational, which makes this model even more attractive. Despite its size, it offers decent image quality and useful features for casual flying. It’s lightweight, easy to transport, and very convenient to carry anywhere. Of course, we can’t expect a 30-minute battery life from a drone this size—the average flight time is around 14 minutes—so I highly recommend having at least three batteries for a better experience. It’s important to understand that this drone has the DNA of more professional DJI drones, but it is not a professional drone in a small body. The image quality is good for its category, but one limitation is the lack of a more advanced multi-axis gimbal. Additionally, strong winds can affect stability when flying at higher altitudes. Overall, it delivers exactly what it promises. It’s a very good drone that I would recommend both to beginners and to drone enthusiasts who want something compact, portable, and easy to use without taking up much space.

This is one of the best purchases I've made
I’ve gone through a handful of drones trying to avoid spending big money. After losing a couple in the past, I tried to stay under the $1,000 mark. In order from cheapest to most expensive, I’ve owned the Ruko F11, SJRC F11, and HoverAir ProMax. The Ruko and SJRC were exactly what you’d expect for the price: limited features, mediocre build quality, and not something you’d trust for anything serious. The HoverAir ProMax was the first one that felt like a real product, but it’s basically a selfie drone. It markets itself as a first-person drone with features like Follow-Me, but that mode barely worked. Even after spending extra on the controller, it constantly lost track of me. Between the drone and accessories, I spent around $1,000 and still couldn’t rely on it. So when I picked up the DJI Neo, I wasn’t expecting much. I was wrong. It’s a fantastic drone. The DJI Neo has many of the same features as the HoverAir, but there are trade-offs. The HoverAir definitely has sharper photo and video quality, and it has sensors on more sides. But the DJI Neo is half the price, and more importantly, it can be fully remote-controlled. With the DJI RC2 controller, I can fly it confidently across my entire 15-acre property, about a mile out, without issues. The HoverAir’s controller was limited to basic movement, maybe 100 feet of usable range, and constantly losing signal or tracking. One feels like a true drone, the other feels like a novelty item. Yes, you sacrifice a bit of image quality with the Neo, but what you gain is a real drone experience: real range, real control, real reliability. Nothing kills the experience faster than constantly turning around on a trail to see if your drone stopped following you and then walking back 50 feet to retrieve it. I dealt with that constantly with the HoverAir. With the DJI Neo, that’s never been a concern. If you want a dependable drone that actually flies instead of just hovering next to you for selfies, the DJI Neo is absolutely worth it.

Awesome little drone for ultralight hiking, work, documentation etc
I am extremely happy with this drone. For reference, I had the original DJI FPV drone which I dropped an insane amount of money on (full regret), with the gen 2 goggles, hard shell case, extra batteries, props, etc.. All told we are talking well over $1400 (I know I know). My main reason for switching to the neo is size. I wanted to be able to throw a drone in a carry on or in my ultralight go-pack for a weekend solo backpacking trip. I also wanted to be able to pluck the drone out of the air with my bare hands without having to worry that a gust of wind was going to result in my losing a finger. This drone complete with a charger, anker battery brick, extra battery, extra props, and a few tools, all fits in the LKTOP carrying case no problem and weighs basically nothing as far as I'm concerned. For ultralight backpacking, I will fly this exclusively with my phone. The fact that it can also be used as an FPV drone is incredible (unfortunately it does NOT work with the original DJI FPV goggles or controller (gen2), which is a real bummer for me). battery charges from an anker battery brick in about 2 minutes, so I really do think that the triple battery set and charger is way overkill. By the time you finish flying with one battery, the other battery will be basically fully charged and ready to go. I am not a hollywood director, so the 4k at 30 FPS is more than good enough for me. The neo sits in that beautiful niche of ultralight recon drone. I am extremely, extremely happy with it, and the $200 price point is honestly a steal. The one thing I am really not a fan of is the DJI fly app and the fact that on android you have to download it from the DJI website and turn off all sorts of security to use it. That is a serious concern of mine, and for that I nearly removed one star.... But in terms of hardware, the softwares functionality (not security), and the joy of using this thing.... hard to beat. I already accidentally flew it into some tree branches and it was none the worse for wear.

FAVORITE DRONE! Will be yours too.
What can I say? This drone is simply amazing! Right out of the box (after activation of course), this drone flew exactly as advertised. SUPER stable even indoors with lower light levels. Outside in bright conditions it just gets even better. Follow me mode is easy as can be and quite accurate with tracking. Seeing as it is still winter and quite windy outside, I am unable to try the more advanced pre-programed flight modes. This drone flies very well in manual mode with a cell phone. By far my FAVORITE drone so far (had Yuneec Breeze & DJI Spark - both dead due to connection issues, and a Snaptain P30 Pro which has issues powering up right out of the box and is difficult to control). Once it is activated (easy process with DJI Fly app on your cell phone), this drone needs nothing more than your hand and bright enough light conditions to fly. BRAVO DJI.

Here's the update: Do NOT buy any of this stuff unless you have downloaded and installed DJI Fly.
This has been infinitely frustrating. I am trying to install DJI Fly on a relatively recent Samsung smartphone. Over and over I get the message "App not installed". I kept my cool and began researching. Days later I found an APK installer app that told me WHY the app was not installing; the version I downloaded FROM DJI was not compatible. I downloaded and installed. The DJI app spends all of its and your time trying to get you to UPGRADE AND PAY. I respectfully declined. I have decided to soldier on and will update this review if I have good news eventually. Okay, I returned the drone and controller and bought them again as a package. This apparently still will not work without DJI Fly, but my kid let me download and install. Once you have DJI Fly working, everything is a breeze. Otherwise it will not work at all. UPDATE: Non-pro tip. If you buy a drone+controller bundle, the drone and controller are already linked and you can shoot video straight to drone internal storage and then transfer to your computer. This is per "Rufus", so may turn out to be inaccurate. This means I'm probably returning the drone and controller to buy them together, which is obviously another massive hassle. Oh well... UPDATE: This thing takes amazing video. Truly stunning. It is so easy to fly, once you get it going at all. Like I said earlier, if you can't download, install and run DJI Fly don't bother. DJI Go will NOT work, trust me on this one.

I love my Neo, get yours soon!
Recently read that the government is trying to ban the sale of DJI drones in the US. Seems like politicized nonsense. This drone is awesome, especially for beginners and infrequent users. I use the phone controls, which I'm told are not as good as the dedicated hardware controller. But they work great for me. I love the pre-programmed skills. The follow and land features are brilliant. And for such a tiny drone, the image quality and stability even in light wind is incredible. Get yours now and buy a spare battery. You'll have the best affordable drone on the market before our broken government tries to take them away from us.

Disappointed with Neo - The Specs Fall Short
I used the DJI Neo for a several hours the day it arrived and I can’t help but feel a little disappointed with the overall experience. It has its bright spots in the software capabilities and ease of use, but the video quality and tracking were no where near expectations. I have several 4K cameras, action cameras, drones, and this is NOT 4K video. More pros and cons listed below. The Pro’s: -Lightweight -Easy to setup -Software is really good The Con’s: -Video quality is not 4K -Only shoots in horizontal, not vertical. Can’t believe it doesn’t have vertical video mode for posting on instagram/tiktok. -The battery life is not as advertised. I used 80% of the battery and got 6.5 minutes of video using all the different automated modes (dronie, follow, rocket, etc). The Neo started with 95% charge and ended with 15%. This would give me about ~10 minutes of videos on a full battery. That is not anywhere near the 18 minutes that are advertised! -Tracking from both front and back is not great. Often loses track if you take any type of hard turns. -Downloading videos to phone is very slow without WiFi. Had to turn off my cellular (with full bars 5G) so it could download on WiFi only. -The video is over sharpened and over saturated. This means objects look fuzzy in the background and colors look fake. For a “4K camera” that is not how it should look. -The follow speed is quite slow (stated as 12mph). Anything more than a light jog and it will lose you. Can’t follow on a bike, scooter, or anything beyond a jog that well. Overall, I feel DJI stretched the truth about the specs and performance of the Neo. I would rather pay more money for a real 4K camera that looks good, faster tracking speed, and better tracking capabilities. I love the experience of a flying camera and will be looking at other products that have better performance.

DJI Neo, Mini Drone
Already own a sub 250 gram drone with a 4K camera and 3-axis gimble so... Did extensive research prior to purchasing the DJI Neo by reading/watching lots of reviews. After a few days toying with it, I am 110% sold. Nope by no means is it perfect yet IMHO, the positive far outweigh the negatives. Build quality is first rate in my opinion so should stand up fairly well. Props are well protected, battery latches firmly into place, has a camera guard/cover, power and mode control buttons are top mounted, has voice prompts, available in a "Fly More Combo" kit, etc. Super small footprint yet packs a punch. Multifunction in that it can be flown w/o a phone or RC controller, with a mobile phone, and/or with the DJI RC-N3 remote controller. Has palm takeoff and landing, voice control, AI subject tracking and quickshots, etc. Compared to other drones equipped with a single axis gimble, DJI stabilization technology really does a great job in keeping the footage smooth. I've gotten between 11-13 minutes of battery runtime so we are OK with that. My only real complaint(s) would have to be the limited onboard (non-removable/upgradable) storage. Although 22GB seems fairly ample so far it is an odd choice for such a device... To download footage requires plugging the drone into a device, no battery/power-on needed.
