Perfect Shaver
General I have been using a cheaper double-edge shaver for about a year now, I prefer using DE razors for the ease, the price of the blades and the closeness of the shave. Even with my cheap shaver I achieved great results from shaving and thus is why it took a year for me to buy a decent one. In general, for people that clean-shave DE razors are incomparable even for beginners, but the negative aspect is accuracy. Not to say these types of razors aren't accurate to a point but it's much easier to be accurate with common shavers (even cut-throats have ease of accuracy - but I wouldn't recommend beginners shaving with the cut-throat). Edwin Jagger For this razor in particular I have to say it is far better than my cheap one and it is only slightly more expensive than common razors. It is very solid, durable and perfectly weighted. One thing instantly noticeable about this razor is how beautiful it is, once unboxed you will see that the shine is exactly as it is in the picture. The design is perfect, the ridges underneath where the blade sits can store more hair in them than my cheaper one and thus provide scope for double the amount of strokes before discarding the hairs in water - to put this in perspective a typical razor will do you for one or two strokes whereas my cheap DE has two sides and thus does double that of a typical Razor; the Edwin Jagger does DOUBLE THE STROKES OF MY CHEAPER ONE. The top curve provides enough distance for the blade to be angled perfectly with every stroke. The ridges on the shaft give good grip but I imagine if you want to buy the slightly cheaper version without the grip it wouldn't be of much disadvantage to you although it won't feel as good. Free Blades To top off this excellent product you are given some free Derby blades (5) which I have to say are very good. I use cheap ones that are also fairly decent (Supermax blades) but have not used these blades with this shaver yet, I will add an [EDIT:] here soon to comment on if the shave was superior because of the blades or just the shaver. At the moment I shave twice per Derby blade and once per Supermax blade (my facial hair is quite thick and I will get a rash if I use more than this) but I have been told by work colleagues that there are more expensive blades that will last for weeks! Competition I have also seen the "Parker 99R Heavy Duty Barberpole with Butterfly Opening" razor also sold on Amazon which is about the same price. The Edwin Jagger razor is better packaged, better looking and comes with free blades. I have not shaved with the Parker so I cannot comment on it's durability or shave quality but the butterfly opening adds a mechanism to the razor that makes it seem like it could be less durable and takes some weight from the top. It certainly has a different feel to it and the weight balance is slightly less comfortable for me personally. In conclusion am very happy with my purchase, I'm excited to start buying and reviewing DE blades in the future but I want to try a variety first which will take time.

Simple, effective, good looking, cheap at the price
Realising that I have been using each Fusion cartridge razor head for too long because they're so expensive, I started looking online to buy them cheaper. What I ended up finding instead is that many people are switching to 'old-fashioned' double-edged (DE) razors like this one. I remember my grandad had one, and you can pick up antique ones in flea-markets for silly money. I didn't realise they were still available, and a realistic option to use. Having read the reviews here, and looked at some of the online shaving tutorials I decided to order this Edwin Jagger razor. On taking it out of the good-quality packaging I was surprised at the weight and heft of it. It oozes quality and feels like it will last for many years (hence, I suppose, the fact that you can find these things in antique shops) and - most importantly - it gives a really good shave. There's no voodoo or magic to shaving with it, and it's possible to shave almost as quickly as you can with a cartridge razor if you want to. Of course you can take longer, and enjoy the ritual - but you don't have to. In the week or so I've been shaving with this, I've only caused one small nick - and it's not unknown for that to happen with a cartridge razor. I already had a decent shaving brush and some shaving soap, but I did buy a small block of alum (Osma brand) and a pack of Derby blades. That should set me up for months of shaving, at a fraction of the price of horrible cartridges. I'm really happy with this product.

Very Good Razor, grip could be better.
I started wetshaving about 2 months ago with a Wilkinson Sword Classic Safety Razor and Astra Superior stainless Blades - it was ok (better than multiblade shaving). Then I decided to choose a good razor and decided I had to choose between this EdwinJagger DE89 and Muhle R89. As the head is exactly the same on both razors and after reading about grip issues on the DE89, I went for the Muhle (longer handle as well). Problem was there was no stock, so after waiting about 2 weeks, cancelled the order and ordered the DE89. - About this Razor - After having used it two times with the same Astra Blades, i have to say the Edwin Jagger is very very good. Excellent finish and weight. Beautiful. Very close shave, BBS with relatively thick beard and sensitive skin (4 careful passes are required, but technique needs improvement). No skin burning at all. The only reason i'm not giving it 5 stars is...grip. No problem handling it when it's dry, when wet (specially with soap) in order for it not to slip I need to hold it firmly - after 2 passes I have to rest my hand/fingers. I wish I had waited a little bit more and gotten the Muhle instead (same performance with better grip). Still, fantastic value for the price. Excellent choice.

Sheer British elegance and class.
After a bit of research, I felt there was a choice between this and the German Merkur 34C as a 'medium aggressive' razor. Having compared the two side by side, the Edwin Jagger is: Cheaper. More elegant and significantly better finished than the 'agricultural' Merkur. Slightly larger (I'm not a big bloke, but the razor still looks pretty compact in my hand, the Merkur is even smaller again). British! I am a total tight-wad and proud of that and wanted to save money on the expensive cartridges that most razors need these days. After the initial expense, I will save a lot of money in the long run - shaving was a chore, but now I shave daily and I love this razor because it has a routine to it that needs to be enjoyed. Yes it takes a little longer, but you need to take a little time out each day just for yourself. Let this be your reason! You will find yourself buying bristle brushes, creams, balms, lotions and a whole load of other paraphernalia (word of the day today) to go with this once you start in the realm of "real" shaving and I have to say I'm hooked already. So back to the point about saving money, maybe it is a looong term saving, having just spent £20 in Body Shop on goodies to enhance the shaving experience! But I feel it will be worth it - you need to buy shaving foam/gel normally anyway...! And with all the latest multi-blade technology, I simply can't get a 17-blade hyper razor with hydration delivery and skin-stretching fin technology under my nose to shave my moustache-line! OK, the last point was flippant but you get the idea. I would recommend this razor as it does a fantastic job. I was initially worried over nicks/cuts, but I would say that I have not had any, in spite of sensitive skin and erratic stubble growth direction. In fact it's a significantly more comfortable experience compared to recent (ahem) Galette, Kong Of Shoves, Walkinsons Swared experiences - the names have been changed to protect the overly hyped and under developed products. I hope this helps. If you're reading this, you're already on the cusp of buying this razor, so do it. You owe it to yourself.

A brilliant razor at a brilliant price
I purchased this razor as I was interested in switching from a cartridge razor (Mach 3). First of all, this razor is beautifully made; the chrome finish is excellent, it has a compact size, good weight and feels very precise to use. I chose the lined handle as I thought that it would be easy to grip when wet; it certainly is, although I have not tried the plain handle model for comparison. As a DE shaving beginner, I did not find the learning curve very steep at all. I found that I was enjoying better results (smoother skin, less irritation when compared with a cartridge razor) after about the fourth shave. The included blades are of good quality and the 5 blades are enough to last for about a month of daily shaving. I have since purchased a selection pack of different blades and would recommend that others do the same as there is a wide variety and your results may vary. In summary, this item represents excellent quality at a bargain price and is a perfect first step for a beginner.

Excellent, good product, smooth chins all round!
I started using a safety razor as disposable, multi-blade razors caused me a lot of ingrown hairs and irritation. I chose the EJ and was not disappointed. It's a lovely smooth shaver and not aggressive, it can take a while to find the perfect blade so try as many as you can. I settled on Gillette 7 o'clock Sharp Edge. No irritation or ingrown hairs from day one. Well made and a lovely chrome finish, you'll get decades of use from these razors and help save the planet. Blades are stupidly cheap to buy.

Surprised how good these are
Having never used a safety razor before, I'd had a good look round at the various youtube videos and tried to listen carefully as I could to the advice on how to use the razor (thank you geofatboy). I chose this one as the general feeling I found was it was for a begineer. I got it today and I just had my first shave with the razor with the blades it came with - now I am somewhat of a cynic about these kinds of things, and my main reasons for buying this razor were to get something that was going to effectively last me a lifetime, and be affordable but at the same time not wasteful (like disposables). Seriously, the best shave I have ever had; I am very, very surprised how good these things are - and feel somewhat silly for not getting one sooner. It did take me some time though, at four slow careful passes, and lot of lots of shaving soap on the face after each pass. I found the head clings on the face and you risk cutting yourself if you have inadequate soap on the face, as there are no 'lubra-strips' on these - and thank God there isn't as (I have never liked lubra-strips), with a regular disposable - which is what I started using years ago after I got fed up of paying extortionate amounts on cartridges - you don't get that muck all over you. As a complete novice (please bear this in mind), I do find that my face feels somewhat very slighltly irritated (probably as the shave is so close, and I my skin may need to adjust), but my face has that really 'clean' feel you get when you know you have had a good shave. I have used brush and soap for years so I am using a shaving soap dish from Boots and a artificial brush from Wilkinson Sword - which to be fair seem to do the job, and I am perfectly happy with them. I was given a badger brush (and sorry for the heresy) but I actually prefer the artificial. I do now have some fancy Taylor of Old Bond Street in the post mind you. I am not saying the other brands of razors and blades are better or worse, but to be totally honest I can't see much point of 'changing up' to anything else, for an expert shave. Only gave 4 stars as you need to make sure you disassemble the razor after use, dry and reassemble, then again I expect you have probably have to do this with all of them, but as I am a bit lazy, other than that I am extremely happy with this. Also I know it's not fashionable thing to say but I like the fact it's British too. I have modified this review, to correct my comment about drying it. I am finding I actually prefer the way you can disassemble it, and ensure it is properly clean and dry, before storing away for the next shave. 5 stars, I will most unlikely be going back to modern razors - I just can't see the point.

Edwin Jagger DE89 a good looking razor!
The razor is very similar to the Mühle R89 but I really prefer the grip on the DE89! I have had a bit of trouble with the choice of blades though, on the R89 I only use feather blades with extremely close results. When I first tried the DE89 I strangely got quite a lot of "nicks" and irritation with the feather blades but with green Gilette blades I got a close and comfortable shave. I would have liked a slightly higher weight on the razor, but overall a nice little razor with the right DE blades

Rasoio splendido

Der macht richtig was her im Bad.
