Lewis has impressed me since I accidentally heard his last album. I have a radio show and the only thing that is underwhelming to me is the fact that the F word is sung in four of the new songs, therefore ruling them out for airplay. I think I know the reasoning behind it and that is that Lewis is a Scot and I am born Irish and a major affinity we have, is the proliferation of the "F" word in normal daily conversation. So if you're going to sing a song about strong feelings you have for someone or something, the "F" word would most definitely be included. The sad thing about this is if I want to continue to sit in front of the microphone every week, that's four tunes won't be played. It seems to me as they are excellent songs that Lewis is shooting himself in the foot, as out of 12 songs he is cutting down on songs we're able to play. "Pointless "is a fabulous song that is actually about his mother! Nevertheless it is such a good song and radio clean, so I've played it. "Forget me" is an upbeat rhythm but the words are straight out of my thoughts about a relationship which tore the woman I loved away from me and in his song he says to paraphrase him, I'd rather you do or say anything other than that you forget me. His lyrics are without a doubt heartbreakingly honest and how love as great as it can be in building you up, can drag you to the very depths of despair and some people never recover. Capaldi's lyrics are so moving, because usually us men can't put what we feel in our head and heart into words. He is an expert at it and while I understand some people on Amazon upon hearing the full cd are sending them back because of the bad language, I'm going to tell again, if you can't put up with the bad language maybe a trip to Scotland or Ireland is not in the cards for you. You'd never make it. Know this though, he is a true talent and well worth the price of either of his cds. Another thing to consider though is that consumers are not buying cds anymore, which distresses me terribly, they are streaming or downloading and therefore they are not listening to the radio anymore. I have loved radio for so many years and to tell you the truth during covid I got so many messages saying how thankful listeners were to me for being there with them week after week on the airwaves. Radio is not dead, but then the services that artists have to sell their music on are so unfair to them that they get barely get no money from these platforms or the consumers download their music and they get nothing. I know this is supposed to be a review of Lewis Capaldi's cd but it's more trying to explain why you should buy the cd and it's my viewpoint. You don't have to read this, I'm not preaching, I'm just putting another view out there and remember it's advice which is free, you can take it or leave it. I'll continue to buy his work. A word to the artists, maybe if you use bad language in the songs you record alternate radio clean songs as well.
