Lao Gan Ma Laoganma Crispy Chilli in Oil 210 g (Pack of 1)

I am a chili fan, having originated from southeast asia. I have always been a fan of crispy chilis, and recently came across an article which claimed that Nigella Lawson really rated this brand. Well, who wouldn't take heed of what the goddess has to say about food? I am glad I listened to her. A jar full of crispy salty chili flakes and luscious oil. It is truly caked with crispy chili flakes - they come out in chunks on your spoon. The interesting thing about this is that it has a really nice, warm chili flavour but strangely not at all hot. Ok, I can take hot stuff but my husband and kids who aren't as used to hot food love this and can wolf down spoonfuls at a time. It is unlike another well known brand which is far hotter - however I would say that Lao Gan Ma's flavour is perhaps not as addictive as the other brand that also takes pride of place in my fridge. On the plus side, Lao Gan Ma's texture is more crunchy and crispy than other brands. Add this to Chinese or other Asian dishes to perk up and dial up the umami sensations in these cuisines but I would also recommend adding to Western casseroles and pasta dishes. My rather fussy 11 year old son adds this to his spaghetti bolognese regularly.

I got these after becoming obsessed with the blue dragon one from the supermarket. These are more savoury than the BD jars which are more sweet, I think there's fish oil in these. Both are great but different in taste

I'd never heard of this before but saw a post on Reddit of someone asking what it was and after reading the comments to that post I looked for it and found it on Amazon. I ordered a jar and tried it as soon as it arrived. Why had I never heard of this before? It is wonderful. On it's own it was nice but I can't wait to try it when I have a suitable dish to put it on as I think it would be extraordinary on rice/noodle dishes. I bought one again straight away to have sent to my son, who loves this type of thing, and like me he had never heard of it but loved it too. Edit: had some leftover fajitas (chicken, peppers, onions, seasoning) so had for lunch next day in a wrap with some sour cream and some of this added. Best lunch ever!

I'm late to the party, I didn't know this existed until I read it in a comments section! It's delicious. A jar packed with crispy chilli, in oil. There are so many uses for it - at the moment I'm enjoying it in rice dishes, stirred through, but it's also amazing in a cheese sandwich! It's hot but not overpowering, and is really tasty. The oil can be used in many ways too - I suspect it can be topped up as you work through the crispy bits. Definitely worth having in the cupboard, highly recommend.

I bought this after reading an American online cookery blog extolling the unique 'flavor' of this condiment and this brand was in fact singled out as one being recommended. It's surprising that it hasn't caught on more here in the UK as it is quite unique in its taste. This classic version is made with soybean oil, chilli, onion, peanuts, soybeans, prickly ash powder, MSG, salt, and sugar. The beauty of this is its versatility, not just for use in Chinese dishes but can be eaten with burritos, tacos, sandwiches and even sweet dishes like chocolate and even ice cream! In fact anywhere where you want to spice things up a little as this is not mind-blowingly hot but is a combination of the sum of its ingredients with a touch of pizzaz. Just do as I did, get a jar and experiment, new horizons are out there.

I`m a big fan of this sauce , if I may call it like this, basically it`s a mix of crispy chilies, roasted soybeans, and oil. It has a well balanced spicy flavor, and usually, I use it as a dip with almost any dish and even I mix it with mayo for a less spicy dip sauce. I was quite happy to find it on Amazon, although it`s a little more expensive than I buy it normally from an Asian specific shop and it was delivered in good conditions. After trying it, though, I could taste a slight mold taste which put me off a bit. As the sauce naturally separates from oil, I was able to drain it in a glass and I had to bin like half of the jar quantity until I could not taste the mold so present, but it ended up in the bin as I was worried. I really cannot find an explanation but maybe a better quality control of the ingredients should take place. Making abstraction of this incident, the souce is delicious when it has the right taste!

Just want to clarify - the supplier and product are excellent. Unfortunately the seal was broken on the bottle and the product leaked and I had to throw away. However I will order again.

Amazing product! Lovely Smokey, crispy chilli without being too hot/spicy. Great in salads, pasta, or even cheese on toast. Hard to find in store so will buy again. Did not leak at all in transit.

Lao Gan Ma Yağda Çıtır Biber gerçekten beklediğimden daha farklı ve lezzetli çıktı. İlk kaşıkta o belirgin **umami** tadı geliyor; sadece acı bir sos değil, yemeğe derinlik katan bir lezzet. İçindeki **çıtır biber hissiyatı** da çok sıra dışı ve keyifli. Pilav, noodle, yumurta, et yemekleri, hatta basit makarnanın üzerine bile çok yakışıyor. Acısı rahatsız edici değil, daha çok aromatik ve bağımlılık yapan bir lezzeti var. Farklı tatlar denemeyi sevenlere kesinlikle tavsiye ederim.

Can’t find these in Japan so had to order them in. Arrived quickly and in good condition. Very tasty

Everyone in my family enjoyed this. I've literally had this with every possible combination and it works. It's not spicy, but affordable for the taste. I loved the little crunchy beans in it. Gives a great texture
