These are not intended to be leakproof! Great for: sandwiches, crackers, small fruit & nuts or salad components (not dressings!) For soups, you would need a jar or "Thermos" type of container. Leakproof food containers are labeled as such.

Does the smaller container "have" to be packed in one of the larger ones? Or can it be left out, it appers it has it's own lid.

There are three containers altogether: two that are almost the same size and a very small one. The smallest one can be left out, but you still have to have the two that are almost the same size stacked, or the lid will not fit correctly.

Can it go to the microwave?

The structure of the metal is probably too complex and would cause the microwaves to bounce too quickly, ionizing the air and causing a fire. It's probably not worth finding out.

If I put liquid in these-ex: soup-do they seal well enough to not leak everywhere?

They are not leak proof. There is not a plastic or silicone seal to keep liquids from spilling out. I wouldn't ever put soup in them. I've never tested something thicker like yogurt or cottage cheese. I use a Thermos brand stainless steel container with a plastic lid :( for liquids.
