From the number one bestselling author Catherine Doyle comes the most fiery enemies-to-lovers romantasy of the year. Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo and Stephanie Garber. In the dark underbelly of a beautiful city, two rival assassins are pitted against each other in a deadly game of revenge, where the most dangerous mistake of all is falling in love… In Fantome, a kingdom of cobbled streets, flickering lamplight, beautiful buildings, and secret catacombs, Shade-magic is a scarce and deadly commodity controlled by two enemy guilds: the Cloaks and the Daggers – the thieves and the assassins. On the night of her mother’s murder, 17-year-old Seraphine runs for her life. Seeking sanctuary with the Cloaks, Sera’s heart is set on revenge. But are her secret abilities a match for the dark-haired boy whose quicksilver eyes follow her around the city? Nothing can prepare Sera for the moment she finally comes face-to-face with Ransom, heir to the Order of Daggers. And Ransom is shocked to discover that this unassuming farmgirl wields a strange and blazing magic he has never seen before… Among rumours of monsters stalking the streets and the rival guilds grappling for control of Fantome’s underworld, Sera and Ransom are drawn together by something more than just magic and must face a deadly choice - forgiveness or vengeance? Kiss or kill? Dagger or Flame? Review: Good Review: JUST AMAZING - 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Love Cat's work but this didn't make as much of an impact
This was my book club's pick for the month, and I'm glad it helped me check another book off my physical TBR. It took me a while to get into, mainly because the intense world-building was overwhelming at first. I liked Sera initially, but as the story progressed, her actions became increasingly ridiculous. Ransom, on the other hand, was a standout for me—I think he did his best with the hand fate dealt him. While the story had potential and some revelations were predictable, the ending left me with a headache thanks to a few obviously frustrating characters. As much as I love Cat's work, this one got under my skin toward the end, and I’m unsure if I’ll continue the series.

Amazing!!!
This is the first time I read Catherine's work and I'm absolutely in love with it! The way she writes, the characters, the story... Everything is so well done that you can't help to fall in love with this book. Sera and Ransom won my heart since chapter 1 and I can't wait for the second book!!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

didn’t like this book
the book itself arrived fast, and was in good condition. i applaud the seller for that, as far as all go that goes? 5 stars. but the book itself would receive 1 star from me. this book was marketed as YA and “low-spice” according to the internet. NO. there was a sex scene in it that i had no idea about 😭 and lots of profanity. do not buy this book for your teen! and as an adult who does not like to read that type of thing — i really wish there were more reviews out there that emphasized that. as a fan of heavy plot and interesting characters — for me this book was lacking. the characters are VERY boring and lazily written. and though the book starts out very interesting with a cool premise and lots of tension, very thriller-y and dark and heavy on the fantasy — it evolves into something that is hard to stay interested in, super slow with very low tension. this is a spicy romance disguised as fantasy and as a lover of fantasy i felt misled. i took long breaks from it because the plot was moving so slow that i had a hard time staying interested. you read this book for the romance, not really the plot. i was overall, i was unimpressed. but if you like spicy romance and don’t care a lot about anything else i critiqued you might like this?

Great
I’d forgotten how much I love YA fantasies. It’s been an age since I’ve read a good one. The Flame and the Dagger was exactly what I’d hoped it would be and more. I couldn’t tell you what drew me to pick it up my “mood” just went with it and I wasn’t disappointed. -faced-paced -unique twist on the shadows trope (for me anyways) -action packed from start to finish -fantastic yearning -slowish burn -exceptional magic system -An FMC who doesn’t have to constantly “prove” herself she’s doesn’t have the mentality “only I can do it”, she accepts her flaws and knows when to ask for help and it was was quite frankly appealing. I can’t wait to get to the next installment! 5⭐️ 0.25 🌶️
