Question 1

If there are 84 slats per box, why is there only 10 ft of locking. Each 10 section takes 42 slats, that should be 20 ft right?

Accepted Answer

There are 82 slats per box and three 42 inch pieces of bottom track. Standard chain link with a two inch diamond will use 82 slats per 10 feet. There will be a little track left over. If you have lighter chain link with a larger diamond, you will use fewer slats (as few as 74) in 10 feet--meaning you will use all the track and still have extra slats. This is why we recommend purchasing extra Viper Channel if you plan to use these slats in chain link with a 2-3/8 inch diamond pattern. Remember the diamond size is the measurement between the two parallel wires--NOT corner to corner.

Question 2

My fence is not on level ground, but curves up a slope in one area. Will this work in that situation?

Accepted Answer

Slats will work on a slight slope or even a slightly rolling slope. It depends on how your chain link was installed. A good way to tell is if your diamonds are "stacked" straight up and down. Take a straight piece of wood or a tape measurer and run it vertically along the top and bottom corners of several diamonds. If the diamonds are aligned straight up and down, slats should work in your fence. Keep in mind that the slats will sit in your fence at the same angle at which the top and bottom corners of the diamonds are aligned. If in doubt, send us a picture of your fence and we can discuss whether it will work or not.

Question 3

Does anyone that has the black slats have problems with fading? We live in desert heat 90+ degrees 5-6 months of the year.

I live in High Desert of Albuquerque, New Mexico and have had the slats installed about 5 years ago.  The Summer temperatures can exceed 100 degrees at times and usually stays in the 90s or upper 80's most of the summer and I have not noticed any fading.

Question 4

I have 5 ft tall fence what size do I need?

My fence was also 5 ft. so I ordered the 5 ft. ones. They measure 56.5 inches but worked perfectly well if installed correctly.
