Great portable Micro Solder Joint Iron
This is a great good quality soldering iron for portable or field use! FIRST! Make sure you are looking for the right Soldering Iron (This review is for the HS-02B Micro Soldering Iron) HS-02A For General Purpose Medium Size Tip Soldering including Wire terminals, Switches, Large Components, etc. HS-02B For Small Component Soldering (i.e. on PCB Boards) ... If you need a microscope while soldering then this is the one! The main difference is the size of the Soldering tips which are NOT interchangeable between the two Iron Handles. What makes this a better Soldering Iron? 1. FAST, SAFE and EFFICIENT: It heats up within a few seconds to an accurate set-point temperature. Using the new USB-C Power Standard, the iron can supply up to 100W for fast heatup automatically and yet it uses only about 4W for 370C steady state tip temperature (see Photo). User can select Sleep and Standby times for as little as 1 minute with a standby temperature as low as 100C (see Photo). 2. PORTABLE: Using the supplied C2-to-C2 USB Cable it can be plugged in to a AC outlet or 12V DC C2 USB power source. The handle is compact and can be used in tight spaces. The supplied cable is sturdy and can handle up to 100W but is very flexible to facilitate handling the iron (see Photo). 3. USER FRIENDLY: the display and user buttons allow you to quickly set and confirm the best soldering temperatures (3 adjustable pre-set values to accommodate Lead-Based and Lead-Free solder along with quick up/down temperature tweaking). A brief summary of Soldering Iron choices (for Soldering wires and electronics): 1. AC Outlet old-style "Dumb" IRON: Takes minutes to heat up and stays hot. Tip will oxidize if left on. Cheap. 2. AC Outlet IRON with adjustable Temperature and Display and ESD Safe: Takes multiple seconds to heat up and goes into standby mode to prevent Tip Oxidation. 3. Butane Portable Soldering Iron: Fast heating iron for portable use. Crude temperature control but can maintain tip temperature with large thermal loads (Large wires, connectors). 4. New Generation USB C2 Irons: Very fast heatup, accurate temperature regulation and display, compact. Accurate temperature regulation minimizes component overheat damage yet can supply up to 100W to maintain temperature to ensure a good solder joint.

High quality, high grade, powerful portable soldering set.
If you're in the market for a small soldering iron, Look no further. Get this. having owned multiple soldering irons, both electric and butane powered, from established home improvement brands and hobbyist stores, I was extremely surprised that this small soldering pen easily best them all In every way. Size and form factor, rate of heat Maximum temperature, precision, ease of use and presets, and included accessories. The device looks and feels well made and solid, powered by a 100W USB-C power supply that also fast charges my phone and can do so while powering the iron thanks to the (2) USB-C and (1) USB-A 3.1 power output ports. The carrying case is small yet holds the soldering iron, with room for all three included iron tips, straight point, angled and flat blade, one in the iron and the other two in their protective hard sleeves, the iron tip itself is protected with a cap that twists on, nearly eliminating the possibility of the cap falling off on its own with a hot tip exposed to damage or potential burns. The USB-C cable included is solidly made with a silicone jacket and is extremely flexible with quality feeling metal connectors. A small iron stand and thin piece of sponge are also included in the case. The tips push straight into the unit and are securely held in place no need to twist or tighten anything. Upon sensing the presence of a tip the iron temp can be set manually, or to any one of three preset temperatures, which you can select in the settings, to have easy access to your most frequently used temperatures for the type of work you do. The screen is bright and easy to read, and silicone grip near the tip of the iron makes it comfortable to hold to solder precise joints. With other soldering irons I sometimes ran into issues of the tip not heating up enough but that has never been the case here. I always have enough heat to melt any gauge solder exactly where I want it for perfect connections in my electronics and metal connections. For everything except the largest of soldering jobs, this is the only one you'll need. Highly recommended.

Lovely, but Case too Small for Power Supply
Fantastic soldering iron with a great tip selection, maneuverable size, and battery life. While it's relatively easy to use, there are some minor annoyances, such as constant beeping when the tip is out while plugged in, even when in standby mode. That's dumb. I also wish the case was large enough to fit the power supply, and that the cord was another 1-2' longer and more pliable. Overall, great functionality and utility for what it is though.

DOA - dead on arrival
Unit is very nicely made for sure, but despite the "quality control" badge in the box, the one I received did not work (it wouldn't heat up correctly). Seems like if anyone was actually testing these soldering irons, it would have been easy to catch this in a few seconds. Okay first off: make sure you understand this iron is *corded*, not cordless. That means you must always have a USB cable plugged into it for power. There is no internal battery to charge up. You wanna use it, you plug it into the USB cable and power brick and keep it plugged in while in use. Having the big USB cable plugged in the back is kinda of annoying frankly. My soldering iron showed up and everything seemed to be working okay when I plugged it in initially - but I quickly realized something was not right. The iron should heat up in 2 seconds, but that clearly was not happening. Also, I noticed the little "heating up progress bar" across the bottom of the screen just keep jumping back and forth clear to the left (it never moved up to indicate the iron was getting hot and reaching its set temp). I went into all the menus and even reset the device, but nothing would make it heat up correctly. The tip did get a tiny bit warm but not nearly up to the temps on the screen. The little progress bar never really got rolling. During temp changing, it popped up, but as soon as the device picked its temp, the temp progress bar showed the device was not heating up. I tried the included 100W power supply as well as other USB-C power supplies I had here but nothing made any difference. The unit arrived with firmware version 1.4 on it, so I thought maybe it needed an update. At the company website it showed there was a version 1.6 so I decided to try installing that. I downloaded the firmware and mounted the iron on my iMac... so far so good.. dragged the .bin file to the device and the tiny screen said "Updating Firmware!" - but sadly it never finished or rebooted. I made a few attempts and each time the unit recognized I had asked it to update the firmware, but never any completion to the update. Unfortunately, the company's website does not give you any means to download previous versions of the firmware (thanks a lot) - so no way to roll things back to version 1.4. I attempted to install the firmware for the HS-02A pen on this one (mine is the HS-02B pen), but that just served to brick the device once and for all. Awesome. This time the iron just rebooted with a bunch of Chinese writing on the screen.. and that's was that. No more mounting the device, no more nothing. So yeah, not real impressed. As mentioned in my video, the little quality control card included with the device was not signed by anyone (despite showing a "passed" emblem which appeared to be printed on the card itself - not added later). I think it's pretty bogus to just toss in a quality control indicator not signed by a human. I sincerely doubt anyone tested this soldering iron before tossing it in a box. Not sure if I'll give this soldering iron another try, but just for wasting my evening I will give it a 1-star review.

Wish it was version A, but version B is still amazing.
I can use this in the wind! The butane ones take longer to heat up and if it's windy they go out. I originally was adusting the power to work with a power bank that only pushed 30 watts. But I ended up getting a DC to USBC cable and now I use a 12 volt Milwaukee 2 amp hour battery. Lasts a long time on that battery. Heats up very quickly, cools down nicely. I keep everything in the case including solderwick, solder and the cable. Which keeps it protected and easily portable. The battery itself I just throw in my pocket or a tool pouch and have the cable sticking out as I'm using it which I do not mind. Overall fantastic tool that I absolutely love and will be buying another one directly from them because they do not have the hard case on Amazon sadly.

Best iron I've ever used! Lots of heating power on demand, ergonomic, compact, versatile!
Very nice iron! EXTREMELY FAST heat up even at 20% power output! Super simple and easy to use menu and temp setting. 3 adjustable presets. Accepts input voltage from 9v to 20v on USBC. Comes with dc barrel jack adapter, 3 different soldering tip cartridges, 100w usbc power cord (highest quality USBC charger I've EVER SEEN!!!! By a landslide!!) adjustable volume and brightness. Solid feeling buttons, it delivers the heat when it's needed and rests when it's not needed. ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE PRICE!! YOU WONT GET ANYTHING BETTER!!!! (even if you throw more money at it!!) The included case has enough room for everything except the power block for the wall. It has enough room to store a roll or two of solder in there as well as the spare tips and whatever little accessories you need!
