I got this after buying several electronic calipers over the years that all eventually failed on me.When it's closed it sits exactly on zero (well almost exactly).Note that "zero" is offset a little along the rule, but it still measures zero. This may be why some reviewers thought there was a built-in error. It's just designed that way.The vernier is OK so long as you have either decent eyesight or a magnifying glass.I'm confident that this measures to an accuracy of certainly +/- 0.2mm, maybe even +/- 0.1mm.For my DIY purposes, that's more than good enough.I've spent a lot on calipers over the years, I didn't want to spend too much more. This is fine.Finally, just to mention that the semi-circle under the rule is not a wheel, its just a bump to help you push.The little knob on top is to lock the tool in place as you take the measurement.

does what it should and no batteries required

This really is a terrible instrument. It will probably work fine but I will hate holding it every time. It doesn’t operate smoothly and the surface are scratched and poorly finished. It was cheap but honestly it isn’t worth the very small price. Buy something else.

These are not precision tools. The fit is nowhere near as smooth as my imperial vernier, but it costs a lot more. Also, the precision seems to be slightly hit or miss, they say 0.05mm but I'd say 0.1mm at best. But they do work within their limits and for woodworking, you don't need anything more precise. I have a digital gauge that I can use for fine work, but that is not as rugged as these, which I can keep by the bench without worries. They do have an imperial scale but it's not as easy to read as the mm, the markings are a bit confusing, but I have other tools for that and I mostly work in metric these days. In short, for the money, these are a good value tool that I can keep beside me and it doesn't need batteries.

Perfectly sound for measuring 1/72 scale diagrams when kit bashing models.I have clearly read the dimensions using the scale measure.Of course for 10th or 100th millimetres it's impossible 🙄 get a digital one for these guys.

I have had these for a while and they will not open up all the way and they are pretty janky. not entirely bad if all you are doing is taking "guesstimate" measurements.

Hochwertige, qualitativ einwandfreie Schieblehre. Die ersetzt jetzt meine ca. 50 (!) Jahre alte "Mauser"-Schieblehre, da sie absolut vergleichbar ist. Bei der "Mauser" ist von den Spitzen, mit welchen man den Innendurchmesser messen kann, leider eine abgebrochen - nach 50 Jahren "darf" die das. Nun habe ich einen absolut gleichwertigen Ersatz gefunden - dazu zu einem unschlagbaren Preis, dafür bekommt man im Baumarkt allerhöchstens so ein wackliges Plastikteil....

Semplice e piuttosto economico. Funziona.
