great anti-dust mite zippered bed pillow protectors
After two months, I have come to appreciate these a lot. This is a set of two terry cloth zip covers for bed pillows, which purportedly block allergens and dust mites. I initially purchased them to extend the life of some aging down pillows that were shedding feathers, and for that purpose, they have worked great. But since then, I also have been diagnosed with a pretty severe dust mite allergy, and in retrospect, I think these cases have truly helped. I am actually about to order more so that I can cover all of my pillows, as well as the big mattress/box spring zip cases in this product line. As for the particulars of these zip cases: they are not crunchy, as I have read in other anti-allergen product reviews, and I have no complaints about any sounds or smells. I also have no complaints about the quality or craftsmanship - they zip just fine and are sturdy feeling, not flimsy. I don't know if they are/are not waterproof, because I haven't poured any liquids on my pillows. The only specific thing I've noticed is that the zip cases do add quite a bit of bulk to pillows, so if your pillows are already huge, these cases might make your pillows too big for normal cases (or at least might make putting on pillow cases more challenging); but for normal sized bed pillows, these are great and I have no trouble putting on my linens. All in all, I definitely recommend these for the price - whether you're looking to ward off dust mites, bulk up old pillows, or whatever.

Works well, good product but could be improved for bedbug battles
First of all, let me say that I don't think there exists a pillow protector that I would rate five stars so keep that in mind. Here's the reason, I needed something to help deal with bedbugs that spilled over from a seriously infested neighbor (I live in a multi-unit building and share a wall and a hallway with the guy), worst experience ever. The reason for no 5th star is that to kill bedbugs and their eggs you have to dry on high heat or expose to heat some other way, these covers/protectors cannot be dried on high. So yes, these protect my pillows wonderfully so my pillows are clean, but now how do I clean the covers to protect the covers from bugs? Dilemma. I realize there probably doesn't exist a cover that is waterproof and safe on high in the dryer so given my options these are fine. We have feather pillows that we couldn't run through the dryer so we bought these. Sleeping with no pillows for the first week was no fun and I am grateful for these as we can use our pillows and know that if anything was in there, it's staying in there. I don't care for the terrycloth texture though because (and this is bug-specific) the rough texture is more appealing to bugs and harder to thoroughly inspect. The terrycloth texture is comfortable but sadly comfort is not my main concern right now. So, if you're battling bugs these are a great option but I might suggest something with a smoother fabric surface. For any other uses, these would work wonderfully.

I bought more...
I bought these cases primarily to keep those nasty sleeping-slobber stains off my expensive down pillows, and to keep them odor-free longer so I didn't have to wash the pillows so often. I don't have bedbug problems, though the way these are constructed I have a hard time seeing how the critters would get in or out unless it was while the covers were off during laundering. Presumably they keep dust mites out, though I haven't gotten out the microscope to look. I reach these conclusions because when zipped closed, these covers hold air inside, and if air can't escape, it would be a challenge for anything larger than molecules of hydrogen, oxygen and such to escape. (Well, unless you don't zip the protective case securely, but then you can give one less star to yourself instead of the product.) This also helps keep the down pillows plump, though if you preferred not to have the extra air in the case, it can be expelled before zipping. Admittedly, the technology behind breatheable fabrics is a mystery to me. My review is just from a consumer point of view. I was concerned that these covers would feel like a cheap plastic tablecloth beneath my sensitive little cheek, but they do not. They make the teeniest bit of plastic crackle noise, which I mention because I was concerned about hearing it against my ear all night. It's really not noticable, even on insommniac nights, unless you are listening for it. The low-pile terrycloth on the outside of these covers probably helps with the sound and feel. Also, notice I said the terrycloth is low pile, so it doesn't feel like your face is on a beach towel. I waited to do a review until I laundered the protectors. There were no slobber stains on the pillows, and the cases lost none of the positive properties. I cannot speak to the durability over time because my protectors are only a few months old. But since they are well constructed, reasonably priced, work well, and I follow laundering instructions, I am not concerned about the durability. Can't compare these to other products, but I was satisfied enough to buy more for the new tempurpedic pillows.
