I'll say now, I haven't bought Alteril soft gels on Amazon in a while, but I have been using it for about 2 years now, and they truly do work even with my "downer resistant body". After the Army, I have tried pretty much every sleep aid available in North America, and Alteril gels work excellent compared to ANYTHING I have tried. I do have to take 4 gels vs the recommended 2 per dose, but I sleep peacefully and never wake up groggy, which in my line of work, is very important. I wake up feeling actually rested and fresh, the rare days I don't need them to sleep, I don't feel a dependent urge to take them like some of the prescription sleep aids I've been given. If you have a hard time falling asleep, and a light sleeper like me as most combat vets are, try these, please. Use the Gels, not the tablets, there actually is a substantial difference that I've noticed.

They came and most had melted or leaked. The company was awesome and sent a replacement, but I had the same issue with the 2nd shipment. HOWEVER, I'm in Texas and it's Summer, so might not be a year round issue (probably should be shipped with a gel cooling pack or something?). Also, for me, they don't work that great. Again, probably just me - I have insomnia that most prescription sleep aids don't help with. They DO help me fall asleep, but if I get woken up, it's almost impossible to fall back asleep.

When I 1st purchased these they worked just fine and I got good sleep but after a few weeks of intermittent use they quickly stopped working and I couldn't sleep. I won't be buying these anymore.

This is the first OTC sleep aid I have encountered that actually works. I am a chronic insomniac who has tried just about everything under the sun that is OTC. Sominex, Nature's Harvest Sleep 3, Nature's Harvest + Stress, Relaxium, Olly Sleep Aid, Qunol 5 in 1 Sleep Support, Carlyle 12 mg Melatonin, Zquill , Solaray Valerian Root extract, Benedryl, Equate Night Time Sleep Aid, Vitamin Magnesium Complex and nothing worked for me. I found the reviews for Alteril Gel caps on Amazon, had tremendous reviews so I thought what have I got to lose? I used to average 3 to 4 days of non sleep and only through exhaustion, I would manage several troubled hours of rest. The Alteril Gel caps are not available at any stores, I checked. Stores carry the tablet and was ineffective. I don't know what the difference in chemical make up but you take 2 capsules a night with the Gel caps. Third day using Alteril soft caps and its the first time in a very long time that I have had three days of restful, sleep. I have not experienced ANY lingering side effects as I dId with SOLARAY's Valarian Root capsules. Best OTC on market as far as my experience. Update September 8th 2022. As some other customers have experienced, I started to develop a tolerance for Alteril which took longer for me to sleep. I have been prescribed Sonata from my family physician but I alternate between Alteril and Sonata . I eliminated Qunol Sleep from my rotation regime and so far this combination seems to work. Experimenting with one capsule of Vitalitown magnesium complex to see if it improves the quality of sleep. Will keep you updated.
