Cleopatra VII Philopator was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, nominally survived as pharaoh by her son Caesarion. She was also a diplomat, naval commander, polyglot, and medical author. As a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, she was a descendant of its founder, Ptolemy I Soter, a Macedonian Greek general and companion of Alexander the Great. Inside you’ll read about Rome comes to Egypt Sibling rivalry Caesar and Cleopatra Assassination Antony and Cleopatra An Alexandrian idyll Dusk approaches And much more! Julius Caesar maintained a private affair with Cleopatra that produced a son, Caesarion (Ptolemy XV). When Caesar was assassinated Cleopatra attempted to have Caesarion named as his heir, but this fell instead to Caesar's grandnephew Octavian. In the Liberators' civil war Cleopatra sided with the Roman Second Triumvirate formed by Octavian, Mark Antony, and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus. Cleopatra had an affair with Antony that would eventually produce three children: Alexander Helios, Cleopatra Selene II, and Ptolemy Philadelphus. Octavian's forces invaded Egypt and defeated those of Antony, leading to his suicide. When Cleopatra learned that Octavian planned to bring her to Rome for his triumphal procession, she committed suicide by poisoning, the popular belief being that she was bitten by an asp. Review: Wonderful and easy to read book! - Great book and very easy reading! Review: Mom Kat Reads - This was a short book that gives us a lot of information on the life of a woman known to history as a great beauty. Cleopatra was more than just a beautiful and powerful woman. She was also a highly intelligent woman who spoke multiple languages. She was ambitious and observant of those around her. And yes, she was a woman who knew how to use all of her assets to get what she desired. I learned a great deal about Cleopatra that I hadn’t known before reading this book. It was well written and the further I got into reading about her life, the more interested I became in learning more about her. If you’re interested in learning more about Cleopatra, her life, and her family, give this book a chance. It’s a quick read with a lot of information that is presented in a way that will keep you reading until the end without leaving you feeling overwhelmed or like you are reading a school textbook.

Concise and well written
I loved that this book told the story without getting bogged down in a zillion Roman names and exact dates of forgettable events. I feel like I now own the story of Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, and Marc Antony.

An Eye-opening Experience
This book was truly wonderful to read. It was like a dance, the way the author’s words moved across the page and my mind. This book makes me want to start a personal campaign to change the way people look at Queen Cleopatra. She was beautiful in every way possible for a woman to be beautiful....

Short and interesting read
The book was written more in bullet format than narrative but did include many details about Cleopatra's life and family. Was the perfect "bathroom book" as you can pick it up, read a page or two in a few minutes. The entire book could easily be read in an hour. I enjoyed the book, mainly as it clarified information that I had from other places. I recommend it for someone who wants brief, and seemingly accurate details of Cleopatra and her family, including parents, siblings and children. If you want a very detailed book of Egypt and the family, this book is not for you.

Awesome power
Late in life have to take note that Cleopatra was not just a name from history to be taken lightly ,as a young queen she was not just used by powerful Roman leaders to take control of Egypt ,but she used her feminine attributes as well as intelligence and cunning to understand her situation close to the Roman empire to maintain and keep control of her country.A queen who was ,also prepared to join a battlefield ,showed that she was tough and could be ruthless. This book is well written and reads like a action packed thriller detailing key battles and people involved, last part of book builds tension as Cleopatra and Anthony cornered by Octavian await there fate.Great read reveals the complex character of Cleopatra and her many attributes and strategic knowledge needed to keep control of the wealth of her nation.

Cleopatra
A me è piaciuto, anche perché il personaggio storico della regina egiziana Cleopatra ha sempre esercitato un grande fascino soprattutto per la grande e tragica storia d'amore con Marco Antonio che ha ispirato opere letterarie e cinematografiche.

A good book on Cleopatra VII
I read the book from start to end on one day in two sittings, obviously because it it well written and keeps the reader attached. I will call it a book of historical facts around the life of Cleopatra VII, where she, a Greek descendant, was the last pharaoh of entire Egypt at a time when the Roman Empire was at its peak power in Rome. The book aptly describes her struggles for survival of herself and Egypt, in which she used her charm, beauty and intellect to attract two powerful Roman generals on her side. The book also brings out the differences between the Egyptian and Roman culture. I would say the book is well written and is a must read for those who wants to know about Cleopatra as I did.

Good quick read
Arrived quickly and in immaculate condition. Good for a quick introduction into the life of Cleopatra, short chapters with very short bullet point paragraphs on the main points of her life story. Handy if you just need a basic and quick intro into her life story before studying her at school or Uni. However, for much more detail if you are doing research for assignments/essays you would be better off reading either Joyce Tyldsely or Stacey Schiffs books on Cleopatra which go into far more detail.
