Would recommend over the exact-o brand.
Cheaper price for what I would say is better than the exacto brand detail knife. I appreciate the handle thickness and the bit of weight to make this feel very premium. Blade sharpness is good out of the box but is to be expected for any new blade really.

Ouch, that's sharp
Very sharp knife. Product arrived in great condition. Works well. Only issue is that this design loosens over time and the blade will fall out, getting lost in your toolbox. That's why I also purchased a box of spare blades.

Sharp, Precise, and Built for Real Work
A craft knife should do one thing well. Cut cleanly and without drama. This one delivers. The blade comes razor sharp out of the package and holds its edge through detailed work. It glides through paper, vinyl, cardboard, and fine materials without snagging or tearing. The balance feels right in the hand. Not too light. Not awkward. Controlled. The grip allows for precision cuts without finger fatigue, which matters if you are working on detailed projects for any length of time. Blade changes are straightforward and secure. It is not flashy. It is not gimmicky. It is just a dependable, sharp tool that does exactly what it promises. Five stars because precision tools should disappear in your hand and let you focus on the work. This one does.

Blade can be inserted correctly AND incorrectly
Better instructions required, so I deducted one star. Or perhaps I didn't read them? I am a big fan of Fiskar products and have used X-Acto knives for decades, so I didn't think I would need to read instructions on how to use this blade holder. I opened the product, tossed the packaging and didn't need to use it until after I emptied the trash. So I don't know if the packaging addresses the blade load issue or not, but it certainly confused the hell out of me until I tried inserting the blade in the shallow slot and that worked. The tooling looks like there should be some kind of part to pop into the hole in the blade. The hole is there to help secure the blade at some point (past or present, manufacturing process maybe?) but this design doesn't appear to use the blade hole, and relies instead 100% on friction. With the blade inserted into the shallow slot, the friction system works well. With the blade inserted into the deep slot 90 degrees perpendicular, the friction is inadequate, the blade moves around and the product is unusable. With the blade inserted correctly, the holder and blade are quite stable, secure and easy to grip.

LOOSE BLADE PROBLEMS
I have to agree with customers that have trouble with loose blades. I recommend tacking the blade holder apart and see what design features are incorporated to firmly secure the blades to the handles. Often the obvious is not always the case.. Usually when a spring is part of the blade clamping mechanism it is used to open the clamp not grip the blade. Tacking the clamp apart and examing them and how they fit to the handle will solve many loose blade problems.

blades come loose often
This handle is unreliable and frustrating for regular everyday use by serious people. It's especially not a good fit for #11 standard blades from xacto. How can I express my frustration with the poor engineering of this handle? Consistantly, after one or two cuts, the blade becomes loose. it's maddening. You can't get into a flow state because the blade pulls out of the handle within a few seconds. This tool might be okay for occasional use, but if you are a serious crafter or artist who needs a reliable tool that you can use like a pen and cut several flowing lines, look elsewhere. i can see how it comes loose and why, and it's simply a design flaw introduced by the spring steel mechanisms. The tool is designed to be useful for many blade sizes, making it less than perfect for any one size. Just get the standard #11 blade holder from x-acto and deal with its issues. I give the fiskars handle one star because it is a comfortable grip, but its major disfunctionality makes the thing worthless.

Balanced nicely. Solid, quality feel
I bought this to replace an Olfa which I found to be poorly balanced/weighted. It was otherwise a great knife. The Olfa blades are second to none and I use them in my Fiskars knife. My only complaint about this knife, is the lack of an anti-roll nub . As a result, I've already had my knife roll off my hobby desk and onto my lap, resulting in a stab of my inner thigh, mere inches from "Mr Happy". This knife will accept all standard hobby blades, like X-acto, etc. Agaain, heft/balance/weight makes this an excellent knife.

Don’t buy if you value your fingertips
Absolute waste of money. Lifetime warranty for this item is as useless as the tool itself. See the image for my old unit vs Fiskars. Let me tell you what my old unit does: 1 - Collet can be tightened with risking my fingers 2 - Collet has a tight grab, blade never moves 3 - Good balance, good grip, doesn’t slip. Knurling is great. It is simple but does the job well. I just wanted something bigger and newer with larger handle. What Fiskars did wrong: 1 - Orange grip is bs, it doesn’t stay in place when cuttin. You should have just put knurling instead of the orange part. I will probably print a replacement cover with plastic knurling. 2 - You can’t hold orange part to twist the handle so you can lock or unlock, because it doesn’t stay in place, so you have to hold by metal part near blade, risk your fingers 3 - Collet seizes when you try to remove it to replace blade, you have to knock it on the desk to pop it out. 4 - Collet grip mechanism is nonsensical, harder to operate and provides no additional grip ability. I provided the photo, see for yourselves. This was my first and last Fiskars purchase of any kind. I will stick to Japanese blades.

Top quality made to last
Fiskars is a brand I know and trust, everything they make it top quality and does not disappoint. This craft knife is no different. I recommend buying a pack of blade refills to keep handy.
