That's a real Japanese marking gauge. Works better than any other gauge.

I build small keepsake boxes and use two of these on a regular basis. I have the more modern roller type but these give a very clean, precise cut line every time. Yes, they are a bit old school, but the design has been in use for hundreds of years. great product!!
