Cuts hickory & oak right out of the box!
Packaging is great, and assembly was very easy. It looks well-made, and right away I tried ripping through a scrap of hickory. Slowly but surely, it cut through. I’m more or less a beginner woodworker, but I feel like it came pretty dang sharp and ready to cut just about anything. It was easy to use, and I’ve never sawed wood by hand before. I quickly start to get a feel for it by trying different techniques and noticing how the saw and the wood respond. Also, if you flick the blade, it makes a super sweet ringing sound! If you’re using this to build guitars like I am, it doubles as a percussion instrument. It will make some cool samples. I think it’s well worth the price and I’m excited to use it when I get my blanks in the mail.

Best Tool for Dovetails
This is my 3rd different saw from Suizan. After trying a variety I can safely say this blade simply does it better. The nadle is long and easy to grip and the blade cuts like butter on hardwood. As someone who enjoys cutting dovetail but always seems to struggle with getting clean easy cuts this saw has been a massive helper and greatly improved my cuts. The saw is well structured, sharp, and meets the functional needs to be a great tool. I also like that the blade width isn’t too wide.

Amazing saw! Buy it now!
Couldn't be happier with this! It cut through bolivian rosewood like butter! It's a good beginner handsaw and is very easy to use. It's comfortable and has a nice light weight to allow longer use! The teeth are sharp, and exact, the handle is light, and the assembly process is easy. One screw, and done! Functions exactly like you'd think. The handles allow easy grip. The length is as advertised with a 9.5 inch blade. Would easily buy again, and will buy another Suizan product!

Cuts like going through butter, extremely well built, keep the blade protector sleeves
INCREDIBLE saw. I read many of the reviews, they were correct-this is the best saw I ever bought (I am not an experienced woodworker). It not only cuts "like butter", but it leaves very little residue sawdust. I was going to use the sawdust to make a mixture of glue to fill some holes in a workbench I built. I vacuumed up underneath where I sawed, all I got out of my hand vacuum was more cat hair.. I built this desk with 2x4's and brought it inside, attached my hand tools to it and then realized I had a large portion that was wasted space and I should add some drawers. I wasn't willing to take all my tool brackets off it and go outside to cut 1 2x4, so I bought this saw. It is well worth it. I know when tools are brand new they work better, but believe me-I can tell this saw will last. Also, it is a VERY good idea to keep the zip bag (also very well made) to keep the sharp blades away from your skin when putting it away. It even includes a ring at the top to hang from a pegboard.

A gift
My son in law loves tools and had wanted this saw for projects. He reports it is well made, very sharp and has a smooth operation when doing fine cuts.

Great blade, handle could be better.
For the price, I love the blade, but could use a slightly higher quality handle and maybe a protective sleeve for the blade, as it can be irritating to transport. The wood handle is fine (I drilled a hole in the end to hang it up), but I could use a higher quality grip material than the plastic cord that came on it. The blade is just the right amount of flexible, allowing flush cuts, and also your typical wood working cuts, and the two options of teeth are a good pairing. I especially like the angle of the edges compared to the handle, as it puts the right kind of pressure on the teeth when pulling, making for a smooth, precise cut. I’ve had it for probably about a year now and used it for all kinds of things, and in addition to woodworking, I’ve also found it quite useful for hard plastic. The finer teeth are good for cutting hard plastic without cracking it. Very good saw, but I would have paid a little more to get that same blade with a better grip and a protective sleeve.

Delivered as advertised, great tool.
My old flat saws had finally given up a busy life, so reluctantly I ordered this Suizan Ryoba Double edge saw. This thing is a cutting beast. I've clung to my old saws like lifelong friends and at 70 years old and doing woodworking for most of them, I realized I've been putting forth way too much effort in sawing with my badly worn flat saws. When I put the Suizan to wood, I was put back at how effortless and swiftly the saw went through hardwood. My old saws were beginning to drift off square a tad, but the new Suizan Ryoba slipped throught the wood with ease and perfectly square every cut. This saw is a value, is extremely sharp and cuts true. Buy one of these things. I think it deserves a Haiku, Saw saw so swiftly Dust of wood to earth raining Awe the masters hand.

what a great saw
First time I have used a Japanese saw. I bough this so I could very carefully remove a 5" piece of molding around a door frame while it was still on the wall. This worked perfectly for that job. also used for a few other things since then. The design, including the pull cut, just makes it easy to get a cut started.

Great saw
I wish I'd clued in to Japanese pull saws earlier. Well made and very reasonably priced. I have a hard time getting a straight cut, but that's a skill issue on my part.

Very sharp and precise
I really like this saw. The kerf (or width of cut) is super thin so the precision you can get when cutting is improved. It was efficient and cut a really clean slice. Probably would need to be used on soft to medium density wood. While it would get through hardwood, I think it might not be quick as beefy. Not enough to lose a star. Recommendation - Keep the cover as it’s wicked sharp and storing that way is much easier
