One-Trick Pony was originally released in 1980. A hybrid album that was released to coincide with the movie of the same name which Paul Simon also starred in. However, the album and film feature different versions of the same tracks and both feature unique songs. This new release has been remastered and includes bonus tracks. The album spawned the Grammy-nominated, "Late In The Evening" which became a top ten hit in America. Standout tracks also include; "How The Heart Approaches What It Yearns" and "Nobody".

A little gem by Paul Simon
Despite some negative reviews of the film at the time, I personally think this album is a gem. Yes, I do agree to some extent that there could have been a better construction of the plot in the film, but hey Paul Simon is a very gifted singer/ songwriter, not a screen writer or novelist. I have always admired his talent for creating beautiful and melodious music with equally appropriate stream of consciousness lyrics in each song. I came across his music ( from Simon & Garfunkel time) for the first time whilst rummaging through my late father's old vinyl collection in the early 1970's and loved it instantly. This album is a product of the late 70's and it's been a while since Paul Simon embarked on his solo career, and by then my interests in music shifted from this to more mainstream rock & pop music of the 80'. So I wasn't too sure what I expected out of this album as I didn't have much inkling as to what kind of songs he produce around that time line. But one opportune moment made me purchase this album recently and I was pleasantly surprised that the album has lots to offer: ' Ace in the hole', 'Jonah', 'God bless the Absentee', 'Long, long day' and 'Late in the evening' to name a few. You can forget about the lukewarm review of the film and instead enjoy listening to this album.

I blame Mum for this one. She got me interested!
This is an album I've known about for years and years. It was Mum who bought it originally. I got to hear it once or twice, but never did any more than that until hearing the title track, probably last year and thinking, 'I'd better see if I can get the album!'Well, thankfully, it's still available with all its goodness. To have the .mp3 version as well as the backup CD should the downloaded version go wrong is a huge bonus. Love all the songs, love Paul Simon.Happy memories.

Worth a listen
It may not be up there with the best of Paul Simon's work, but it is certainly a lot better than many of the reviews said when it was first released. I haven't seen the film for which it is the soundtrack and nor can I get hold of it unfortunately, but I suspect that I might be able to relate to it a lot more easily if I had. However, as with a good deal of Simon's later, more difficult work, it's actually a grower and as I continue to listen to it, I am warming to it more and more. If you are a Paul Simon fan, just trust in the man and have faith in this wonderful writer and give it a chance!

Early Simon
Love this gem. Used to own it on vinyl and wore it out. Saw the film of the same name years ago and although he's not an actor he did really well and it was great to hear the songs in the context of the film storyline, which made it even more enjoyable. This CD comes with a few extra's and is well worth the money. Buy and enjoy.

show Simon at his musical and lyrical best..
For some reason, even though I am a Paul Simon fan....it took 30+ years to happen upon this album....The tracks, in addition to the chart hits, show Simon at his musical and lyrical best.....the guest musicians compliment the music superblyAnd the sprung rhythms are particularly charismatic....Essential purchase for any lover of quality song writing.....

One-Trick Pony - Paul Simon CD
I have the vinyl version of this CD but am unable to play because I have no record player anymore! I am very happy with the quality of the CD and extra tracks which do not appear on the vinyl album. Why don't they make music like this anymore! Those were the days! Very many thanks for this lovely product!

Probably overlooked
I have had this album for a long time on vinyl and receiving it earlier this week on CD was a revelation. The remastering is very well done. The delicate elements, particularly the percussion shine in this remasters. The session musicians are (were) among the best available when this was recorded as Paul Simon always has been very selective in the sound he was after. One Trick Pony, Oh Marion and God Bless the Absentee are probably among the best known songs, but this is one of the CDs that is best enjoyed in its entirety. The bonus tracks are a real bonus and they clearly show that even many of his demo tracks would have made a nice acoustic album. If possible, I would rate this 4 1/2 stars... as a 5 stars remains only for an indispensable album.

good old Paul Simon.
An old friend,Simon never puts a musical foot wrong,we'll forget about The Capeman, shall we? This C.D.is evidently from a film which I never saw, difficult to see how the songs hang together but as separate pieces of music they're all fine.

Paul Simon: poeta americano

What is and is not......
I've owned the original soundtrack of "One Trick Pony" for many years along with every other album Paul ever did alone or with his old buddy Art. Tonight I watched the film for the first time since it was released back in 1980 and enjoyed Paul's experiment in cinema and sound. Though the movie may not ever be on many peoples "classics" list it is great to see Paul when he was young and enjoying the opportunity to stretch his wings. If the movie wasn't extraordinary, the soundtrack he wrote to support it certainly was. Paul Simon writes a rare kind of music that doesn't age with the changing trends of popular music. I still listen to his early work frequently and also enjoy his more recent releases such as "Surprise" and "So Beautiful or So What." For some people there will always by Dylan but for me I'll take Paul Simon's music six days a week.
