is the fp 50 useless after 5 years or what is its useful life span

Dear Mr Shaw, the FP-50 is warranted for five years but will have a useful life beyond that, at least up to eight years. We do recommend however that after five years you replace the device with a new one. If you contact us (details on the Firepal website) we can arrange for your existing device to be re-cycled and provide you with a discount code for a new one.

is it a one go item that needs replacing after use

Yes, the Firepal FP50 is disposable and will discharge fully (8 - 10 seconds) when activated. The FP50 is not pressurised, the aerosol extinguishing gas is created only when the device is activated, so it does not require servicing like traditional pressurised fire extinguishing casings do. It also means the size, weight and efficiency of the FP50 can be optimised - the FP50 is a very compact and very effective extinguisher using the latest in fire extinguishing technology. Should you have to use your FP50 please do let us know and we will arrange a discounted replacement for you.

Can this not be used on a type a fire? Combustible materials such as paper and cloth?

Yes it can but with caution to ensure the paper, cloth or fibre embers do not re-ignite. These are Type A fires which can be extinguished with a Firepal FP50 if caught early enough. There is however no guarantee against embers from such a fire re-igniting, particularly if it has been burning for a while - the solution is to douse the embers with water once the FP50 has extinguished the flames. The FP50 is designed to be an easy and quick extinguisher to use as a first line of defence for small early stage fires.

Is this bafe approved?
