Beautiful, love the magnetic pieces!
Beautifully made, and I love the slight magnetism to the board and pieces; that small detail just enhances the playing experience so much and makes it more fun. The only complaint is that the drawers slide open a little too easily but when the board is lying flat on the table that's not an issue at all.

Very nice.
I'm giving this as a gift to my teenage grandson but I opened it up and checked it out first to make sure it was all good. This is a beautiful set! The pieces are light but very nice looking, and the magnetic strength is sturdy but not too strong. The custom foam in the drawers for the pieces is a nice touch.

The Only Sliding Happening is the Drawer (And I Mean That in a Good Way)
This is a 12.5’’ wooden chess set, complete with magnetic chess pieces and two built-in storage drawers. It looks great sitting out on the table. My kids are currently using this set to learn chess, and they can learn in style, which is neat. This is a good quality board game for beginners, kids, or adults. The pieces are magnetic, which really helps prevent them from sliding around the board while you are playing. This feature works very well. The organization is fantastic because the drawers have fitted molds for all the chess pieces. This makes cleanup easy. The organization system really helps ensure we don't lose the pieces between lessons, which saves me a lot of hassle. It even includes 2 bonus extra Queens. This set makes a good gift.

This is a beautiful set
I’ve been binge-watching The West Wing since the 2024 presidential election, and it’s made me want to learn how to play chess. I did learn a bit when I was a child, but I haven’t tried to play for fifty years. Also, since I’ve started doing some prepping in case of major grid failures or breakdowns, I’ve become mindful of how important it is to have sources of entertainment (and distraction) that do not involve access to electricity or the internet. I figured chess would be challenging enough that one would not likely grow tired of it, and the design of this set with its storage drawers and magnetic board appealed to me as something we could keep together and tidily stored when not in use. There are only two of us, so a game for two that can be left in place, started and stopped and returned to at will, is perfect. Yes, the board is magnetic, but the magnetic force is not so strong that it’s hard to move the pieces. I expect if you really tried you could knock the pieces off, but I think the magnets are just the right strength. Maybe not for super-bored and rambunctious kids in a car, but (fortunately) we don’t have any of those! I don’t enjoy wrestling with refrigerator magnets that are super-strong and hard to pull off, so I’m sure I would not like playing with super-strong chess pieces. I checked all the pieces, and they all have their magnetic bases and are smooth. Two queens are included for both the “white” (blonde wood) and “black” (darker wood) pieces, although I seem to remember the queen from my childhood chess set being taller than the king. The king, with a cross on his crown, is the tallest piece in this set. I especially love the “white” pieces; they are beautiful, so that’s the “side” I’m always going to want to play. The board itself is beautifully made, and while there are a few places on the drawer faces that are very slightly rough, it’s not enough to make me take off a star. Just a soft pass or two over the rough spots with a very fine grit would smooth it out with no problem if it ever starts to bother me. But it won’t. I picked up a Kindle edition of how to play chess, but this set comes with a good little booklet that describes all the pieces and their roles in the game, plus some of the ways those roles can change in certain circumstances. Certainly enough to get a new chess player started (and intrigued). This set would make a mighty fine gift for old and young alike. Preppers, too!
