Worked well for a couple of months but then the rubber teeth stopped gripping the pencils, so they just spin with the blade when you turn the crank... disappointed.

I grew up in Japan, and I used Carl's pencil sharpener which looked exactly like this when I was a child. I left home, and my parents kept the pencil sharpener, and they are still using it. It is in very good condition and works greatly even after it has been used for more than 30 years. Recently, I bought this pencil sharpener for our young boys, and we are very happy with it. There are similarly designed products on the market, but I especially choose this model because it has rubber clips inside to hold a pencil in place, and they do not leave marks on the pencil. Most of other products in this style have metal clips with sharp teeth, and they leave dents which look like chew marks. The blades are very sharp, and pencils come out very smooth and even. The handle feels amazingly light when I turn it. The body and many other parts are made of metal, and they feel very sturdy. The pencil sharpener does not need to be attached to a desk when it is used, so our children take it to wherever they want to work. Pencils seem to last longer when we use this sharpener compared with an electric sharpener. These days, everything is made cheaply to be disposable, but this product is an exception. I think this well-made, beautiful pencil sharpener will stay with our children for many years.

Great purchase. I was annoyed by me electric staples sharpeners. They would sharpen the pencil on one side more than another. This one will sharpen the pencil straight and it pulls the pencil in until its sharp.

This sharpener is really well made. Pencils come out really pointy and long compared to other psharpeners I have tried before. It def looks like a life time product.

Does not leave marks on the pencils, grips well, sharpens beautifully. Made in Japan.
