Powerhouse!
This little gem holds an entire jumbo Schacht bobbin full of yarn. It’s got a nice tensioner to it. Assembly was a breeze. I like the fact that the plastic cone on it twists off (not the skirt, but the upright cone) in case you want to take the ball off without worrying about the center collapsing. Very impressed and it’s a quite a heavy duty machine for the price. I would recommend that you have a lazy Kate to hold your full bobbin while winding to avoid the yarn coming off your bobbin unevenly to avoid any mishaps with yarn wrapping underneath the skirting. What a time saver! Worth every penny.

Little loud, beautiful cakes
It's a little loud but so far it's made beautiful cakes! The motor makes a whining sound when I turn it on and I'm not sure if that's normal. I'm giving it 4 stars because it stops at even the slightest amount of pulling and I have to keep the yarn at the same height or it drags down the motor. I'm super happy with the results, though! Performs much better than the cheaper models sold on tiktok.

Great for large uniform cakes
I tried a few hand winders and they all had inconsistent results. Only the smallest jobs wound with decent results, but still inconsistent. I had finally purchased a Boye electric winder and absolutely loved it. Perfect large cakes every single time. Unfortunately, it only lasted a year before the motor burned out. My husband can usually repair anything, but the machines housing was all plastic, and to reach the motor, the large suction cup area had to be cut out. He fixed the motor, but the machine wouldn’t work properly due to the inability to stabilize the machine with the suction cup altered. It’s no surprise that Boye no longer manufactures the machine, which is a shame, because it was a fantastic but needed a better design. I finally gave in and reluctantly purchased this machine. In the first weeks I had it, I rewound my entire yarn stash. I was determined to test the machine while fixing the awful “cakes” wound with the hand winders. One issue was the yarn end staying in place. I solved this by using a hair elastic band to hold the end securely and easily removing it afterwards. Also, the spindle can loosen and fly off, but I quickly realized that this only happened after using the machine for longer times. I solved the problem by checking the spindle and making sure it was tight and secure each time I would a new cake. It easily winds 2 skeins into one large cake making my yarn organized while taking up less space. Considering what I’ve paid for hand winders that produced poor results, this has been a bargain. It’s so compact that I can leave it attached to the counter for convenience and it’s not very noticeable. It’s got an all metal housing and separate clamp for stability, so if it needs work, my husband should be able to fix it, if not, I wouldn’t have an issue just purchasing another. I paid $100 for the Boye and would have bought another if it was available. This machine was half the price. So, in conclusion, had I bought this first, maybe I’d be disappointed with the yarn hold, or spindle flying off, but I’ve been through so many, this is the 1st one I’m actually really happy with based on results. That makes those two issues minor inconveniences that I quickly found solutions for. If you’re an experienced yarn crafter, you can understand how much easier it is to work with a center pull yarn cake free from knots and tangle which interrupts your creative flow. I’d recommend this winder. So far, so good.

Worst item I’ve ever bought on Amazon!
This winder is awful! It will not hold the yarn when it’s put into the holding slot. I had to manually spin for several cycles before it would hold. Then the winding went out of control, winding so tightly it eventually broke the yarn. Turning the machine was useless; it continued to wind, however at a slower speed. Only way to stop was to pull the plug. Finally, it wound into a very short ball, in spite of advertising as XL. I could go on and on, but I think you get my point.

Not worth the extra money. Unreliable
Well, I tried it and I’ve got to say it’s easier to use a hand winder. I had to baby sit this a lot closer than a hand winder. It’s very hard to consistently get a good tension with the yarn to create a uniform cake. It is also louder than an upright vacuum cleaner and rattled a ton while in use. It frequently spat its spool off causing tangles, and the split in the top of the spool would not securely hold the yarn tail. I do not recommend this product. I feel like it needs more work to be worth the price point and to be useful long term. I skeined about 3000 yards anf ended up having to reskein what I had done on this machine with a hand winder.

Yes, it WILL handle a 1-lb. skein
The media could not be loaded. My only reservation about getting this electric yarn ball winder was whether it would handle the extra-large, one-pound skeins. Yes, it will. The first time I used this winder, I used it for a one-pound skein and had absolutely no problems. Later, I wound some super bulky yarn, and it handled that just as well. You should at least be in the same room, though, as one skein had a knot in it. When the knot got to the little guide and wouldn't pass through, the machine stopped and made a whining noise to alert me there was a problem. I just turned it off, got the knot off the guides and wound that little part onto the skein by hand, then turned the winder back on to finish up. You can be doing other things while this winder does the work for you, but I would stay nearby. I really, really like it.

Makes Massive cakes!!
The media could not be loaded. This is my 1st electric winder and I wasn’t sure if I’d like it but it makes winding super easy! The heavy duty design is easy to assemble with only 2 screws and it isn’t bulky. It was able to wind my scrap yarn (2 weight strands together) to make this massive cake (16.3 oz). It really out performed and the sturdiness of it held it tightly together into a neat cakes. I even used it to frog a crochet project right out of the stitches and into a neatly wrapped cake😂. The only downside to this machine is that if you have any yarn thicker than a 5 weight it won’t fit through the little metal feeder thing (not sure what it’s called 🤦🏾♀️). Keep in mind that I haven’t used it on its highest speed and probably never will. but it beats manually winding (I have carpal tunnel). Other than that Worth every dime!
