Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English 6 paper

I love this book. The paper is great, the way the words sorted. I like that you marked the most used words. I am a big fan of longan dictionaries. There is no word it doesn't have. Very useful.

I used Longman dictionary when I was at College and now I've got the latest version for my daughter who is studying at Secondary school. She too has become a fan of this dictionary. I can't recommend this dictionary enough for the clear and simple way it explains the meaning along with all the grammatical annotations of the words. The coloured pictures are a bonus.

It is the best dictionary I got when I was a teenager. Now, I bought it for my child (age 7). It is a big dictionary for him but he loves it. The explanations and examples are provided very well.

Just arrived and I have been contemplating it for at least half an hour. I have been a keen user of the OALD since 1983 and I have always admired them for the trendsetting approach, experimenting, looking for the best option. But it made consecutive editions utterly incongruent, each time having bought a new version one had to learn to use it anew. This is not the case with LDCE. Beautifully designed, aesthetic and user friendly, it allows to pick up a relevant bit of information almost instantly (always an issue with the OALD), then, the dictionary is perfectly conservative in its form and layout, which in this case can only be helpful. The idea of issuing an extension for collocations and synonyms may disgust those, who find a grain of greediness in the policy of a company, actually I find it quite useful, as LDCE is composed of 2200 pages. I placed it immediately onto my quick reference shelf among other favourites: COED and the big Collins English Thesaurus. BTW it's worth spending some extra bobs and buy a hard cover copy.

This is that dictionary which provides meanings in simple words unlike Oxford dictionary where one has to refer to dictionary multiple times to get to the bottom of it. I loved this dictionary when I was in college and now bought the latest version for my son in GCSEs. Has got a section in the beginning - Formality in spoken and written English that is very useful for non English speakers. Also got this for lesser price as the cover had some marks on it (disappeared with a wet wipe). Paper quality could have been better and does not have explicit pages of pictures as on 1998 version. Could have given 4.9 star for this but rounding it off :). I highly recommend this to every one especially to non native English speakers.

Probably the very best on the market. Blows OALD or CALD right out of the water. They have the "name" but Longman's got the game. VERY nice layout that's easy on the eye. Also, in my opinion the hardcover version -although more expensive- deliveres real bang for the buck so don't pinch pennies and opt for the lower-quality paperback version unless you intend to use it only every once in a while.

I like the book and was brought on time. I am using this product to look up for meanings of difficult words.

I'm Italian, and I find well organized this dictionary, and above all very clear. The tips, pictures and thesaurus are also quite useful.

Top das galáxias. Vale realmente a pena ter um. Tem tudo. Dependendo da pessoa da pra aprender o idioma sozinho apenas usando ele. Além do léxico gigantesco também tem orientaçoes gramaticais específicas e práticas. Tem muita clareza na parte da descrição fonética para a pronúncia das palavras. Material de exelente qualidade. As folhas são de um papel mais fino o que permite um exelente manuseio. Da para deixa-lo aberto sobre uma mesa desde o inicio das páginas, de A a Z, ele não fecha, permanece aberto enquanto escrevo ou manuseio outra coisa, isso não seria possível caso fosse feito com folhas de papel comum. Pra mim isso é ótimo. Quem adquirir um dificilmente irá se arrepender.

Thank you for the packaging. Additionally, the shop owner who sent me responded carefully to my answers regarding my shipment. Packaging 8/10 points. It could be better. I think the dictionary is the best dictionary of this language. It meets all my requests. Printing and printing quality 9.9/10 points. The pages look thin and delicate. However, it is specifically very useful and of high quality. This is the best until Longman does better.

I love dictionaries and I have many. This one is probably one of the best, the other excellent one is the Macmillan for advanced learners which is not sold anymore. One interesting feature is they have the frequency of the 9,000 most used words in English (written and spoken), with a rating given in stars: one, two or three stars if the words are among the less or most frequent. I know it is easy to find a word on line but having something written is a good help especially if you don't have Internet connection. It also has the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) pronunciation, grammar, thesaurus, etc. It has a lot of others features, I strongly recommend it!
