Works great with OpenWRT
My good old Linksys WRT 3200 died on me after several years and I needed an OpenWRT compatible WiFi 6 router, and this is the one I landed on after a little research. I've had it for 1.5 years now and it's been stable and reliable. Flashing process was easy, no funny business with jtag cables just the web interface, it was basically a drop in replacement. I can't complain about the quality of the hardware, WiFi coverage is good, speeds are solid and consistent. Like a lot of households nowadays we have tons of devices, from personal phones and computers to TVs and IOT stuff, and it handles any load we put on it. Unfortunately I can't speak to the performance with the stock firmware, but I can say the interface didn't look terrible.

Value for money
AMAZING!!! This router is absolutely brilliant. Itโs a real steal. I was in the US and I had to buy it. It was my last chance. In my home country it costs at least twice as much as the normal price. Now I can watch my American and Brit shows and soaps without having to connect my laptop with an HDMI cable. My gaming equipment is also working even better now. The features are also pretty sweet.

Poor Connectivity Performance - Very Disappointed
This router was a big disappointment. The coverage in the 5 GHz band was terrible in my 2000 sf ranch home. I had persistent connectivity issues consisting of dropped connections and poor throughput. The 2.4 GHz band was better but not much. I purchased this router based upon the Consumer Reports rating - it was the highest rated non-mesh router they has reviewed to date. Lately I have seriously begun to question the reliability and thoroughness of Consumer Reports ratings based upon this product review and other products that I have purchased based upon their ratings. I was too late to return this router as I had thought there might be an issue with my connected devices. However, I finally decided to purchase a TP-Link AX1800 that was $55 on Amazon vs the $165 I paid for the ASUS router. Both are WiFi 6 routers. The TP-Link router has been excellent. Easy set up with great range and connectivity in both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands.

Great but why the slow ethernet cable?
Works great. Easy setup. Only gave me a 100mbs cable for some reason tho.

Asus has another winner!
I like the aggressive case looks, logo and antenna inserts. So far it has been very solid. I've always liked the Asus interface and this one includes a traffic analyzer, which is great. I'm upgrading from a different Asus WiFi6 router that I wasn't sure was going to last but it has done great. I upgraded to this model and turned the other into a Mesh Node, which took about one minute! Team Asus, thank you for the great user interface. This model was able to load my previous configuration with zero issues. I reviewed all settings and some that were not options in the previous model. All was good and after a reboot everything worked like nothing had changed! That saved me a lot of time. I'm very happy with the performance, looks and features!

Works well as standalone
I originally purchased this router as an extender for our home's loft. The main router was an ASUS AC-1200 (an older and slower model). The AX4200 did not perform well as an extender for a slower modem -- it was only receiving a portion of the slower model's bandwidth. After I installed the AX4200 as the standalone router, its performance has been excellent. I have measured up to 580 Kb/s on a nominal 500 Kb/s line. Additionally, its Wi-Fi strength is sufficient to also cover the loft.

Not matching advertised capabilities
First, my compliments to ASUS tech support team in USA, they are easy to reach and very willing to assist in trouble shooting a problem. The Router is supposed to have 2.5G speed capability, when I installed it would match my service providers speed with 1G up and 1G down but only with hard cable connection to my PC. WIFI speed was less that 130 MPS up or down. I called Asus support, after approx. 15 minutes on the phone with their tech support and them guiding me to change number of operating parameters on the router the WIFI speed improved to 750 mps U / 800 D. 2nd problem encountered is signal strength , standing next to router I can get 750/800 mps, at 20 ft distance the speeds drop by 80%, hence from router location to 20 ft best speed was 130 mps, at 25 ft it was down to 80 MPS. 2nd call to their tech support requiring more check and changes to router settings did not produce any improvement. Given lack of adequate speed at minimal distance, I had not other option than returning the product.

Stopped working, support AWFUL
Absolutely crushed by how awful this router and experience ended up being. I have been an ASUS fan for years, recommend to clients at work, etc. I upgraded to this router because it was the top-rated device on consumer reports and the ASUS brand. After about 7 months, the speed for both frequencies became erratic and nearly impossible to use (speed always slow, kept dropping to 0). ASUS tech support was unreachable by phone, which kept dropping the call while on hold, so I was stuck with the chat support as they strung me along with endless troubleshooting that went nowhere until I insisted on a replacement. They have continued, for weeks, to string me along, sending me to different reps and managers, all telling me to continue waiting "1 to 2 business days" and then never contacting me in any form until I contact them again. I still, after over a month of no internet, have yet to receive any replacement. I gave up and bought a new device and ASUS says they "can't" give me a refund. I cannot overstate how disappointed I am in this company and product; I cannot foresee purchasing from ASUS again after this awful experience.
