Really works and really made my kid feel like a spy

Total bummer, doesn’t work at all. My 10 year old was excited for it and doesn’t work

I ordered this ‘Thames & Kosmos Spy Labs Inc: Listening Toy’ for my Grandson’s to use when they play spies. I figured it was a piece of technology’ that would enhance their game. First and foremost, you need to keep in mind this is only a toy. Hence, it won’t perform neatly as well as a lot of the more professional’ listening devices out there. With that said… I think this ‘Thames & Kosmos Spy Labs Inc: Listening Toy’ is great…at least my Grandsons do. From the minute I gave it to them, they didn’t put it down. And I could tell by their laughter that they were having a great time trying to hear what us adults were saying. The sound quality of this ‘Thames & Kosmos Spy Labs Inc: Listening Toy’ is decent. You can definitely hear what is being said with a minimal amount of distortion. I can tell the mic isn’t omnidirectional, because the sound cuts out when it’s not pointed directly at the sound source. I wish the earphone cord were longer, though. It’s supposed to be 18”, but I don’t think it’s that long. I say that because I noticed the earphone coming out of my Grandson’s ear a couple of times when he moved around. But, my Grandson’s love this ‘Thames & Kosmos Spy Labs Inc: Listening Toy’, and that’s good enough for this Grandpa. It’s a creat, inventive toy that will keep kids entertained for a long time. The quality may not be professional grade, but it works as a toy.

It's by all means not a high end device but one you get past the fact it's a cheap plastic toy then you should be OK that it may work for simple listening for big kids or adults. Not for funny young kids. It works to listen in on distance conversations and TV.

My daughter is a huge fan of the SpyLabs products and owns nearly every item in their lineup. When I came across this new addition, I knew I had to get it for her, and it did not disappoint! Its ability to amplify sound allows my daughter to listen in on conversations while maintaining a safe and stealthy distance. Of course, it's a toy so the distance is just a few feet away. Still, the microphone's directional capabilities are impressive, enabling her to focus on specific sounds and conversations even in noisy environments. The product is well-constructed and easy to use, making it perfect for kids who like to play spies. Since adding this microphone to her SpyLabs collection, my daughter has been even more excited about her investigations and role-playing. It has provided hours of imaginative play. If your child is a fan of spy gear, I highly recommend the SpyLabs Directional Microphone.

Obtained for my eight year old grandson. He played with it for a few hours because he found it very frustrating to play with. The sound is horrible and very distorted and unless the microphone is pointed just right it picks up nothing. Even as a toy it should work better than this does.

This is obviously a toy based on the cost and age range alone, but I thought it would be fun for my wee one to play with and it was something different. So if you are anticipating buying this to secretly listen in on your ex while you sit creepily in a nearby car outside his home, eavesdropping on coworkers to see what they really think about you while they are in the break room while crouching awkwardly on a toilet against an ajoining wall, or maybe want to hear your husband talk on the phone while he's locked in the bathroom speaking in hushed, suspicious tones, this is not for you. Definitely not. But as a cool toy to just amplify nearby sounds, it is fun. We did test this by whispering to each other while someone else listened across the room. Honestly I could hear what was whispered a lot clearer than without using this. But it basically is a directional microphone with an earbud. It is affordable and I think most younger kids would find this quite entertaining, but level of interest is limited. Mine thought it was so neat, played with it for a while and then it was history. Tossed in the toy box of 'old news' doom. Overall: it works, is affordable and we had no problems with it prior to it's early demise in the black toy hole.
